ADSIEDIT won't open, and says "MMC could not create the snap-in". The msc and dll files are both in system32. How do you troubleshoot a MMC snap-in? -- Reply in group, but if emailing add another zero, and remove the last word.

Automated backup/mirroring
by Guest DW- 2 replies

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, 5 users I am running a SCSI RAID system with internal 15k U320 hard drives. I recently added an eSata RAID box with mirrored hard drives. At the end of each day, I manually copy the SCSI data to the eSata system. However, I would prefer to have the SCSI data continuously copied to the eSata system Does Windows 2003 have that capability? If not, can anyone suggest a reliable 3rd party software package that will accomplish my objective, hopefully without taking a performance hit?

Allow a network adator to use a non-domain dhcp server
by Guest Gwylim Austin- 0 replies

Hi, I am trying to setup two servers for some testing, one to act as a DC the other an Internet gateway. The DC seems to be running fine with all necessary roles installed (including a DHCP server). However the Gateway is unable to connect it to its internet connection when it is logged onto the domain. When logged on with the local account it works fine. I read somewhere that this is to do with the fact that the server is not allowed to get its internet IP address due to the fact that it is from a non-domain DHCP server. Is this correct, and how do I go about altering this restriction for just this one adaptor. Many thanks in advance. Gwylim Aus…

Memory Leak-Poolmon/Process Explorer Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 0 replies

We are using SBS2000 -- not 2003 we know--but thought we would post to this group since the question could be relative to Server 2003. In the last 3 weeks we began to have a memory leak in the non-paged pool in which the server would have to be rebooted after exactly 1 week to the day & within a 3-hour timeframe. We ran poolmon.exe to help pinpoint the culprit and have collected data over a 4 day period. In poolmon three are (2) suspect tags: THre File We now want to run Process Explorer v11.04 to narrow down the offending process(s), etc. Based on the above tags, what do we look for in Process Explorer? Thanks!

Access-based enumeration - Any fix for interactive login/terminal services?
by Guest Eric Young- 0 replies
Hello, One of the longstanding limitations I have faced with Access-based enumeration is that is does not work for interactive logins or terminal services logins when accessing the file/folder structure directly from the drives. It works great for server shares, though. I was curious if anyone has come across a "fix" for this? Or, perhaps this is addressed in Server 2008 (?). Thank you, Eric

We currently have 11 geographic sites. Each location has its own server 2003 domain controller. Everyone in the business maps a drive to the main location's server. All, office's are connected via WAN. I have setup each server to be its own license server in sites and services. Employees may move around and work at different locations depending on what is going on. I would like to buy device CALS (more employees than computers) QUESTIO…

I've recently set up a Windows 2003 Server SP2 enterprise system to handle SQL Server 2005 connections to data bases. The Windows server is on a WorkGroup - not a domain, and I've set it up as an application server. I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, I ran the services configuration tool and set it to allow both local and remote connections, and to use tcp/ip. I can see the Windows server pn the network, and can access the default shared printer folder, but that's it. I can't seem to access SQL Server at all, and no matter what I do keep getting this error message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When …

Domain member can't see user deletion on doamin controller
by Guest Romain- 2 replies

Hi, I have a strange behaviour happening on a server and I need your help. So here is the setup: 2 domain controllers 2 member servers that are configured as terminal servers. Users use the TS in application mode. Initially the users were configured to use roaming profiles, sync with DFS but right now, the DFS no longer synchronize the profiles from on server to the other (the 2 TS). But that not the major issue here. I have delete a user on one of the domain controller. On TS1, I can see that the server know that the user has been delete because for the 'local' profile stored in TS1 on doc and settings, if I edit the properties, the user does not ap…

ntfs file system being recognized as raw
by Guest OM- 3 replies

Hi, I have this interesting problem and hope someone can help me out. I am running Windows 2003 server as the a file server and use an external 160G USB hard disk for data backup. The external drive is formatted using NTFS. The problem is whenever I connected the drive to the server, the OS won't recognize the NTFS partition. It see it as a basic disk with raw file system. However, I can still copy file back and forth to the external drive. Since Windows doesn't recognize the file system, it then doesn't assign a drive letter to it automatically when the drive is connected. I have to manually assign a drive letter every time I connect the drive to…

Server 2003 Stardard SP1 to SP2
by Guest Kevin- 3 replies

After installing SP2 on my DC I found that I was unable to login through terminal services to my terminal services server (not on the domain). I received the "RPC server unavailable" error when I attempted to login. However I am able to login directly to the console. Is there a work around of a fix to this issue? Do I need to provide more information?

File Auditing Issues
by Guest Justin- 0 replies

I would like to setup file auditing on our file server to see who is deleting files. We are using Server 2003 Enterprise which is the domain controller. Here is the problem. I go into the Group Policy Editor and enable auditing on "Audit Object Access." Then I add the ACL on the certain folder on want to watch. In my security log, I get a new entry every half second barking about successful registry changes. This machine has never been touched in terms of setting up auditing. I have gone to "regedit" and looked at the permissions on each root folder. No auditing seems to be set at the root. What can I do to stop the auditing of the registry? Is there an eas…
