by Guest Linn Kubler- 8 replies

Hi Running Windows 2003 Standard Server as a Domain Controller, File Server and Print Server. I'm frequently having the spooler service crash and cannot figure out why or how to correct it. Oh, running service pack 1. In the event log I get the following error message: Source: Application Error Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Description: Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.2.3790.1830, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x0003248b. All I've found so far on the Internet was a suggestion to delete everything in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS directory. Tried that but it didn't help. Anyone else run int…

Hi all, I have the following problem: I have the following share on a Windows 2003 R2 server : \\netserver2003\d Now I need to shutdown the netserver2003 server. It will be susbstituted by a new server with a new name. But I need to preserve the above mentioned share because it is used by many computers. Can Dfs do that? For a short time both server will coexists. Can I move the share to dfs transparently without clients notice the move? If this can not be done, what else do you suggest? Any hint is welcomed Thanks in advance Sammy

Hi hope someone can help me with this. We rebooted the sbs2003 sp1 but when it restarted the routing and remote access stopped working. I have tried kb 840686 but that does not help. The event view error is: The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. I also have other event view errors: The MAD Monitoring thread was unable to connect to WMI, error '0x8004100a'. And: Windows cannot perform filter check for Group Policy object CN={C3EA2FEE-C0F0-4D95-8B65-668D6A64B499},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=TrycareLtd,DC=local. Group Policy processing aborted. …

Intermittent SSL connection problems with IIS6 on Windows 2003 R2 SP2
by Guest Andrew Dancy- 2 replies

I'm tearing my hair out over a really annoying problem with a website hosted with IIS6 and would appreciate any help people can give. We've just had to migrate a website from an old Windows 2000 machine to a new Windows 2003 machine, and at the same time move it into a new hosting facility. Now we're experiencing problems with some users unable to use SSL to connect via https to our website. I'm not completely sure whether it's a problem with IIS, Windows, the firewall (a Cisco PIX) or the hosting facility, but I thought I'd start with the former and try to eliminate those as potential causes first. The website is at http://www.lovetts.co.uk and also at https…

Hello all, I am copying data from an old volume to a new volume with Robocopy. My first question is do I really need to copy the System Volume Information directory and the Recycler directory? I would think not. If not what is the proper syntax using the /XD switch to skip these two directories?

Folder Browsing Slow
by Guest netadmin07- 0 replies

We have a brand new server Dell PowerEdge 1950, running Windows Server 2003 ENT, SP2. It has two 1TB drives, not running any Raid. Basically, some of the folders on the drives are very large, and if you open them it takes a very long time, longer than normal. The screen goes to white, and you wait, then eventually the flashlight icon starts going back and forth. Finally the data will appear. If we close that folder, after all the data is visible, and go back into that folder right away, this does not happen anymore, it opens up right away. We did notice that the Indexing service was disabled by default, so we enabled that service, but still havin…

We have a standalone 2003 server for file sharing purpose. I would like to allow user to change their password on their own. I was suggested to use psexec to run the net user command. However, it was giving access denied error when running the command. I didn't get the same error if I didn't attempt to change the passworkd command works psexec \\server -u user1 -p user1_password net user user1 command gave access denied error psexec \\server -u user1 -p user1_password net user user1 new_user1_password Do I have to gain specific permission for user to change password? All these are done from the user's workstation. Thanks

Server 2003 standard edition sp2. PF usage on the server constantly rises and never retruns to normal unless we reboot. It takes 4-6 hours for it to reach it's max. The memory usage stays completely normal. I've scanned for viruses and spyware with several programs and found nothing.

Windows 2008 Memory Caching
by Guest C S S- 0 replies

We are starting to test Windows 2008 in a virtual environment. We created an instance of 2008 on top of a VMWare server, and assigned this VM 12GB of ram for windows (no reserved amount on the host). What we're seeing is that Win 2K8 itself (in performance manager) claims it's using only 2GB of ram. However it looks like it's keeping 6GB tied up for cache. Since this is being used, on the host server instead of just 2 GB being allocated to the VM, it's allocating 8 GB of host memory. My question is, what is this cacheing in 2008, is it like the pre-fetching in Vista? And is there a way to disable it? We are much less concerned with performance imp…

Command Line Escape Characters (WinZip)
by Guest sean_walsh- 4 replies

Hi I have a zip file that is encrypted with a tricky password, which I need to extract from a .bat file. The password is: -33,33_(}33"33*33=33|33^%33 So I try this line in a .bat file: "c:\program files\winzip\wzunzip.exe" -o -s-33,33_(}33"33*33=33|33^%33 MYZIP.zip C:\MYZIP\ This hits a problem because of the double-quote in the password. "ERROR - missing closing quote on argument" This also doesn't work: -s"-33,33_(}33""33*33=33|33^%33" I believe the ^ char is an escape character for DOS Command Line arguments, but that doesn't work. I tried to simplify this by changing the password temporarily to 33"33 and using the following arguments: -s33^"3…
