by Guest Kim Webb- 0 replies

I have a login script running so when users login the drives are mapped. In the last week or so suddenly instead of the four regular mapped drives users will have extra random drive letter assignments. Any ideas what might be happening? Here is the login script: net use h: /delete net use j: /delete net use f: /delete net use u: /delete net use h: \\pos-file\user\%username% /persistent:YES net use j: \\pos-file\user /persistent:YES net use f: \\pos-file\files /persistent:YES net use u: \\pos-file\alumni /persistent:YES So when a user goes into My Computer they will see: f:\ = \\pos-file\files h:\ = \\pos-file\kim j:\ = \\pos-file\user u:\ = \\p…

Auto Refresh of Network doucments
by Guest William Mann- 0 replies

Hi, My network has a redirection of documents from a DFSR sharepoint, and when my users create files or folders, or delete files or folders, explorer fails to auto-refresh to show the changes they have made. I've searched google, and came up with HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update Updatemode DWORD value, that needs to be 0 instead of 1, and I've made that change but I'm still getting the problem Any ideas Thanks, William Mann Trinity Catholic High School

Hi, I'm having a slightly weird problem. I've got a re-direct for my doucments, to a DSFR share, and when my uses delete a folder or file, or create a new folder of file, explorer doesn't auto refresh to show the changes. I've done a google search, and it came up with regedit HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update\Updatemode as needing to be tweaked to a 0, and I've done that, but I still have the problem. Any ideas? Thanks, Will Mann, Trinity Catholic High School

Reported drive size less than half of partition space?
by Guest ayrob- 0 replies
Hi, I have a Windows Server 2003 SP1 server using a Raid-5 array with 8 146GB drives. There is one basic partition that is 956.91 GB, but the NTFS file system reports it as 410.09 GB. This appears under disk management. The top line that shows the volume reports 410.09 GB. The lower area with the partition information shows 1 partition of 956.91 GB. Any idea how I can reconcile this difference without wiping the drive and restoring from backup? -- Thanks, Rob

GPO works on desktop but not on notebook
by Guest Peter- 0 replies

Hello everybody, Got a strange phanomenon. Created a GPO (IE7_settings) which only should use SecurityZoneSettings under HKLM. In ZoneMap\Domains I added all URL's which I want to trust. And now the strange thing. In my OU, which contains desktops and notebooks, I assigned "IE7_settings" GPO. When I now log on a desktop, and visit a domain which I added to my ZoneMap\Domains, then IE7 marks it as "Trusted". When I log on a notebook and visit the same domain (URL) IE7 marks it as "Internet" I use same user on both machines for my test. With "gpresult" I already checked if both machines (desktop and notebook) use "IE7_settings" GPO. That's the case…

Hello everyone, I work at a school wich has 2 network, administrive and educative. However at least 20 to 30 students per week have damaged profiles. We repair the profiles by renaming them to .old, this works but there has to be a cause to these damages profiles. What could be the causes? -- raedts ------------------------------------------------------------------------ raedts's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=36437 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=864139 http://forums.techarena.in

NTFS permissions and redirected folders (W2K server SP4)
by Guest lfibtest@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hi, I want to redirect "the desktop" folder of my users to a share on my server "\\server01\desktopdir". I follow the procedure described here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288991(Windows 2000 To set security on the shared folders in Windows 2000) When a user login a "\\server01\desktopdir\username" folder is created. When I check the permission on the folder "username", administrators and system get full control but there is "creator owner" with full control on "subfolder and files only" and "username" with full control for this "folder only". I think I should get administrators, system, username with full control control only. Do I miss someth…

Logical Disk Manager - big issue under load
by Guest Florian Heigl- 1 reply

Hi, while doing a test robocopy job from our old to the new fileserver i noticed that diskpart started being extremely unreliable. Normally there should be 14 or 15 Volumes to be listed; about 10 of these are mounted into various directories that are in the robocopy target area. When trying to list volumes diskpart will at times report none, at times one or two of them and error out. Similar behaviour shows in Disk Manager, it shows all volumes but some lack the NTFS-label. Also not all volumes are selectable in the snapshot property tab (which makes things really bad) I have to admit it's been a long time since I used the mount-into-a- directory opt…

by Guest NCollins- 3 replies

I am running Server 2000 sp4 in a small Doctor's surgery center. They complained of very slow response on the server. I came inon Sunday with no one accessing the system. The task manager shows the memory usage at about 1% and the CPU is flat lined at 100%. The two processes using the CPU are eventmgr.exe (75%-95%) and CSRSS.exe (5%-25%). How can I tell what the eventmgr.exe is doing? Norm -- nwc

Allow helpdesk to add local printers
by Guest Richard- 0 replies

I would like our helpdesk staff to be able to add local printers to our Windows 2003 print server(s). Is this possible without adding them to the power users or administrators group? Adding them to the print operators group and allowing them to load/unload device and print drivers via gpo doesn't seem to do the trick. Thanks.
