MSTSC has DEP errors after upgrading via WSUS
by Guest Roger- 0 replies

I deployed a lot of patches to one of our dev 2003 terminal servers last night, including RDP for Windows Server 2003 (KB925876). Now, when I try to run RDP from that server it will launch but shuts down within a few seconds. When I logged into the console to see what was going on, I saw a Data Execution Prevention error up. It gave me the option to exclude RDP from DEP. I did that, but still have the same problem. I haven't noticed any other issues yet. Here's what's in event log: Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 11/30/2007 Time: 10:10:52 AM User: N/A Computer: VMCITRIXDEV Description: …

I'm not sure where to post this question, so if this isn't the specific forum, please let me know... I have a revoked certificate in the revoked certificates folder - reason is "unspecified." This certificate is not needed and I'm wondering how to delete it? I've Googled this for hours and can't seem to find any way to remove or delete it.

Volume Shadow Copy service stops on its own
by Guest randy- 4 replies

On my file server, I repeatedly get information events in the event log saying that the VSS service has entered a stopped state. Then a little while later, says it entered a running state. If the service is set to automatic, why does the service not continuously run? Is it designed to only start when needed?

Can a new PDC replicate with existing BDC?
by Guest Krykino- 4 replies

I need to repartition my W2K which is PDC and of course I have created IDR for it. I need to have a backup plan in case the IDR restoration failed. Therefore, I plan to manually reinstall the drivers, OS and promote it into PDC, and configure the AD sites and services in order it can synchronize the AD and group policy with the existing BDC (W2K3). My question is, can the synchronization be done with that way? The way of demoting a PDC to BDC is to change the PolSrvRo registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY\Policy from 3 to 2. Unfortunately, the PolSrvRo is not found. Do I have to create a key with the same name and add a value for it? Any help wo…

Massive TCP change on servers
by Guest net_admin- 4 replies

Hi there, hope you can help with this one. We had an WINS server which crashed. I will call it OLD. We then moved the service to a new server. I will call it NEW. Now we have around 100 servers with static IP and they point to OLD's IP address. Setting the same IP from OLD to NEW and changing NEW's IP is not an option. Does anyone knows how to massively change the primary and eventually the secondary WINS server on 100 clients remotelly? -- NetAdmin <São Paulo, BR> "Das ist nicht mein bier... arschloch."

IE hanging in Server 2003 only on cloaked redirect URL's
by Guest AzureArt- 0 replies

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but as it only seems to be happening on my WS2003 environment I thought it was worth a try. Basically Internet Explorer is hanging indefinitely for me when I try to go to a website that has a cloaked web redirect. At least I think this is the case. I have a couple of sites of my own that it happens on but when I go to the site via the actual URL it is OK. I have tried searching for a fix for this but can't find anything - can anyone help me? TIA

Poolmon.exe Problem?
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 0 replies
We are running SBS2000. When we open a command prompt window and type poolmon.exe, the top of the window flashes just the memory information and then goes away--back to the command prompt. But if we type poolmon.exe /p, we get the screen with the data as we should. Why can we only start poolmon.exe using a switch command?? Thanks.

shutdown unknowingly!
by Guest Raman- 3 replies
One of our server has been shutdown unknowingly, I was investigating, which account is responsible for that. There was a clean shutdown of the system at specific time (event IDs 6005 and 6006 suggest this; also, there is no event ID 6008 which would indicate a "dirty" shutdown). The user logoff event (event ID 538) immediately preceding the system shutdown event, is not matching with any of the user logon events (event ID 528). Kindly advice is there any other way we can find the culprit (in windows 2000 server). Thanks, Raman

I want to prevent a user from accessing the fileshare if they come from an unauthorized machine. As of now, if Joe User brings in his personal laptop and plugs it into the network, and tries to access a Windows 2003 file share, it prompts them for username/password. If they enter their AD uname/pw, they can gain access. How can I prevent authorized users on unauthorized machines from gaining access to W2K3 file shares?
