by Guest RedCellNL- 0 replies

Hello, I an using an Windows Server 2003 terminal server to host applications. Some of the users complain that an exporer windows opens with every click on a folder. So i would like to enable: " Tools -> Folder Options " so that they can enable the single window. But I don't want them to change the File Types / Offline Files options. So i would like to hide those options. I have found that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder can hide it but i don't know how. can someone explain to me how this can be set so that the users can change the folder options but not the File Types / Offline Files option…

/3GB analysis
by Guest Justin Rich- 7 replies

so, I understand how the /3gb switch works, but is there a way to tell what the kernel end of things is currently eating up? is it assumed that it always takes as much as it has? We have an instance where we might need to do this, but I was wondering how I would go about analyzing the system to get a feel on whether this will be a good thing or not. from what I have seen its a try it and find out, unfortunately this is a production system and people don't like to just try things, they would like a little certainty. Thanks Justin

/3gb and /pae switch
by Guest mhowell- 13 replies

I am still trying to completely understand this and I find conflicting information. If I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise server with 8 gb of physical ram and an application that will take advantage of memory above 2 gig would the following make sense. Use the /3g and /pae switches in the boot.ini. 3 gb would goto the application and by using the /pae switch the 5gb remainder would goto the operating system. Is that correct?

/PAE /3G problem
by Guest FabioG- 1 reply

Hi, We have a serious problem on our production cluster. It's a MSCS cluster with 16GB RAM for each node and Windows 2003 EE Server R2 sp2 32 bit installed on 64bit processors. In the file boot.ini the parameter /PAE is set. We're trying to set the /3GB flag as well but after rebooting a node , but we have experienced serious instability at the OS level. Windows is not responding anymore relating to OS basic processes that fail to start, network interfaces not recognized anymore and other weird stuff concerning domain policies and user environment. So we took the /3GB off the boot.ini. Is the /3GB usable together with the /PAE parameter in such an architecture…

/PAE and /3 gb
by Guest Mark Bohlsen- 1 reply

We have a Windows 2003 Enterprize Server with 8 gig of memory. The main application running on this server is Lotus Notes. Since this is a 32 bit application it apparently can only use 2 gig of memory unless we choose to enable the /3 gb switch. We already have the /pae switch enabled. I wondered if that's even required. Anyway, we want the Lotus Notes application to utilize beyond the 2 gig limit. I guess the question is first, is this advisable, and secondly, if we use this switch does that automatically leave the OS only 1 gig? Lotus suggests using the switch in this way "/3GB /Userva=2800 ", because there testing has had positive results with t…

Hi out there - we have a windows 2003 R2 w. SP1 where we when we added to a domain suddenly got a problem - the environment variable %CommonProgramFiles% where set to the root of the users %HOMEDRIVE% - here H: so %CommonProgramFiles% is poiting to H:\Program Files\Common Files now instead of C:\Program Files Common Files. I can see a few otheres which have had this problem - but no workaround? I cannot override this variable and I have tried to roll-back each step (and installed application) possibly - any suggestions? best regards /ti

%date% returns different values for login script.
by Guest TimParker- 6 replies

I have what I thought would be a simple project that is stumping me at the moment. I was asked to create a simple login/out file to log when a user signs in and out of a machine. I set up the script shown here: echo %COMPUTERNAME%, %USERNAME%, %date%, %TIME%, Login >> \ \mopssrv01\MISData\MOPS-LOGONS.csv Simple one line bat file that I put in as a Login Script through GP. I have another one for Logout with just the word change at the end to tell me what they were doing. This is the output that I get in my CSV. Note the first and last one has the MON as part of the date. I have looked around and must be totally blind as I dont' see where I can change …

Hey my home network consist of 2 computers (winXP and win2k3) Now I'm about to configure DNS on the machine with Windows Server 2003. The goal is to have this computer is the domain controller in my network...and also configure Active Directory on my network okay the problem is with deciding what zone name to use for primary zone. I don't have any registered domains etc.. Lets say I use "microsoft.com" as zone name, would that create trouble for my DNS server? problems like it is confusing microsoft.com with the real microsoft.com... ??? (it may sounds like an overkill to have DNS, AD on my little network, but I do this in the spirit of learning ho…

by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

Hey At home I've got 2 computers (winXP and Windows Server 2003). These 2 computers are connected to each other via a gateway. Both these computers are connected output ports on the gateway. The input port on this gateway is the internet from isp. So these 2 computers share the same internet connection. (the gateway is 3com OfficeConnect CableDSL gateway) Now I've configured DNS on the win2k3 machine... I wonder if this is correct ?? Here is the output from nslookup: Default Server : intranet.newbie.testing Address 192.168.1.x Hmm I think there must be something wrong here because I added configured winXP to use the win2k3 machine as DNS server. …

0-byte .mdmp file on program exit
by Guest Mathias Koerber- 0 replies
What could make a service on a Windows Server 2003 create a 0-sized (ie empty) <processname>.<pid>.mdmp file on exit. On another system (both are Win Server 2k SP2) this does not happen. It happens when the process exits cleanly itself or if it is stopped using the windows service management console. I had a look at patch differences between both systems and nothing seems to be related to those empty .mdmp files. The service runs fine in any other respect, it's just these files being generated whenever it is stopped. Any hints could be appreciated

Hi hope someone could help me. We've changed ISP and upgraded our DSL line from 512kbps to 2mbps, our new ISP gave us a username and password then I changed the account information on our Speedtouch 546 router. Now I could surf the internet only when I'm connected to the router directly. My problem now is the computer clients connected to my ISA server which gives them an error: Forbidden you were denied access because: Access denied by access control policy I could ping from webpages from client computers without any problem, and we have 2 NIC's from our ISA server. Is this DNS problem or ISA configuration? Can someone pls. tell me how to solve this issue.…

08 domain firewall

hi, have server08 and sbs 03 in same domain with a couple of other pc's. outside of the domain but still on the internal network cant ping or get mail into exchange on the 08 box, in the domain can communicate fine with the server. have been messing with the advanced firewall all week but nothing i do makes any difference, surely it cant be that hard to allow mail in and let me ping/rdp without having to put my laptop into the domain.turning the firewall off seems to have no effect. i have read that gp manages the firewall at a higher level than inbound rules, any ideas?
