Where are local files stored with folder Redirection
by Guest Jon Osborn- 1 reply

We are implementing Folder Redirection very soon (just my documents and desktop). We have put all the IT people (3 of us) on Redirection for testing but we have come up with some questions. Everything works fine, but where are the local files store at? If we take our laptops home we are still able to open/modifiy files like normal. If I open my documents and modify a file the C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents does not refelect the change. But if we are offline the My Documents (off desktop) will show the change. Where does it store the files? One users C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents is blank but all files are aviable …

XP Indexing Services
by Guest Kenny- 0 replies

I currently have a strange issue whereby indexing services is skipping one of my pdf's. As a test, I have setup indexing services on two XP SP3 machines, both with a fresh OS build. I can find the pdf when I search on one of the PC's, but not the other (both test PC's have identical indexing service setups and sample pdf data). One of the test PC's is a core 2 due, the other a single core box. I am not convinced the problem is related to hyperthreading, but won't rule this out. Can anyone please help? Cheers, Kenny

If you are reading this article then you have probably come to the point where your computer has started to show declined performances and possibly become less functional. Unfortunately this will happen to almost every PC user who uses their computer frequently and changes software and hardware over time. There really is nothing more annoying than having a problematic computer which restricts your ability to work or play games and most of the time these problems arise as a result of registry errors. The registry is a database which stores all important information regarding software and hardware related setting in the form of keys. As time passes and your pc beco…

Windows Server 2003 R2 and OLP Device CAL "installation"
by Guest Bruce_IT- 2 replies

I have done a lot of searching and can't find any microsoft approved info about installing or using Device CALs. We just ordered 3 servers from Dell along with OLP licensing for all servers and 18 Device CALs. Going into the EOPEN site and the related licensing site we have located and used the server product keys to install the server software. Despite numerous trys with Microsoft, I have not been able to find out what the correct process, if any, is to install/use the device CALs. There is no apparent software or product key or magical incantation to use to acquire the Device CALS In our case we have enough device CALS purchased to cover our worksta…

Remotely writing on event viewer
by Guest John Skandar- 6 replies
Hello, I have a client application that can log operations done by users onto the event viewer of the server, in the "Applications" section. I've found that the application can do this only if the local user is also an admin on the server. Of course, we can't give users administrative rights on the server. So, is there a way to grant a remote user the right to write on the event viewer without being administrator? Thanks

Extend System Partition - Win2003
by Guest JeffB- 1 reply

Curently have 8gb system (basic) partition that needs extending. Can this be done? The HDs are not physically connected to the actual system. It uses shared storage located on an IBM AS/400. They allocate the space and I usually use diskpart to extend a data partition. Read a couple things and looks like system partition may be different. If it can't be, what are my alternatives? thanks

Currently the only way to see if there are errors in the event log i have to check the event log on all the servers manually. Is there a way to send out an email notification or some form of notification when critical errors occur like a hard drive failing?

Vista sp1, Server 2003 & 2008 dfs: The users have roaming profiles with the GP redirecting profile folders to a dfs location on the network \\domainname\dfsfilespace\Users\(username)\... profiles are also set to come from \\domainname\dfsfilespace\users\(username) recently redistributed locations on the server and now everthing has gone to crap. Users get messages at logon saying that the server copy of their profile has not been found and they will be logged on with a temporary profile, even though the network and folder appear available. Even moreso running a file sync gives hundreds of Access is Denied errors. This happens even for a newly…

Requirements for software: 1. work without installing client (agent) 2. find out data from remote PC such as computer name - IP address - CPU - RAM - HDD - OS installed. 3. useful graphical or data (rows) report for step 2 (getting inventory data) What do you suggest for? All three requirements are mandatory. Thnx all!

by Guest zinger-uk- 12 replies

Hi, We have a problem on one of our Domain Controllers which is running windows 2003 R2 server (SP2) The server almost ran out of disk space I have managed to free up enough disk space to give us some breathing room, but the MAJOR problem we have is Windows Explorer is reporting that there is only 602MB free on the 8GB System © drive. But if you run chkdsk it reports that 4314608 KB is available (i.e. 4GB of space) Does anyone know how we can get the windows to recognise that we have 4GB of free space and not 602MB If we do a dir /a /s it reports that 4,029,885,992 bytes are used and that 631,287,808 bytes are free The drive is formatted w…

Cannot PING Windows 2008 RRAS server IP
by Guest N D- 7 replies

I hope somebody in here can assist as I am tearing my hair out. We have three servers A B and C. All are running Windows Server 2003. We use RRAS to setup demand dial between the servers to enable "private" communication between them as opposed to the Internet facing network traffic on the single network card in each. Each server has it's own private (192.168) subnet on the demand dial interface. This has worked fine for a couple of years but now we are going to introduce a fourth server (Lets call it D) running Windows server 2008. I have added the server role to get RRAS installed and configured. I have added a Demand Dial link on the server to connect…
