Folder Redirection fails on only some machines
by Guest Dabwang4363- 2 replies

Hi everyone, this has been puzzling me for a while now and i cant find a solution. This only seems to happen to laptop users who disconnect their machines from the network frequently. i myself have a laptop which is permantly connected and i never get this error. Sometimes one of these users will log onto the network and their folder redirection is not pointing to the usual server location but to the standard c:\documents and settings\..... The only way to get this back is to do a GPUPDATE /FORCE and this doesnt always work first time. the only 2 common factors that i have found is that this sometimes happens when the user has changed their domain p…

I have a few workstations, not all of them, that randomly start getting security failures in their event logs, rebooting the main server and the workstations often takes care of it, but not always. I've looked all over the net, tried many things, but I can't seem to shake this. Anyone have a solution path for getting rid of these errors? Shared Fax Service Question
by Guest Igor Pinchevskiy- 0 replies

Hello Everyone, I got a quick question, we have a 2003 server R2 SP2 Standard edition, and I know it comes with shared fax service where you can send and recieve faxes, what we're interested in is in receiving faxes and forwarding it to email, from what I can tell is its only possible to send faxes to 1 email account, if we add more lines and modems to the server than can we forward each modem/fax to a specific email account? If yes do you suggest using separate modems for each line or one of those multi modems? Thank you in advance! Igor Pinchevskiy

Hi I have a windows 2003 SP2 server as a member server that has exchange server 2003 installed on it. For some reason the system files were over-written by some installation. that caused a generic host error by some DLL files and it wil not allow me to see the netwrok. I tried to replaced the DLL files with no success, I tried to re-install SP2 for windows server 2003, that is when this installtion indicates that some system files were repalced by different version. but, the SP2 installation stoped saying that RPC services is nopt runing, eventhough it is runing. how can i check which files were replaced and how do i correct them back?

Windows Server 2003 SP2, SQL Server 2005 SP1. 2GB RAM. 2 x Intel Xeon 1.86GhZ. 2x RAID 1 arrays, 1 x RAID 5 array. Hello people. We have a very perplexing problem involving a constant write queue on two of three raid logical volumes. We have Win2003 and SQL Server 2005 is installed on drive C (RAID 1). The database files themselves are installed on drive P (RAID 5). The log files are on drive L (RAID 1). SQL is the only application installed on this server. This is a production server under moderate load. Drives C and L have a constant write queue, as indicated in performance monitor. The queue on L is slightly higher than the queue on C. There …

Convert Physical to Virtual
by Guest Thom Paine- 3 replies

I'm having some issues with my Windows 2003 R2 server and am at the point to refresh it and start anew. It takes forever to boot up, and seems slow. Considering it's a Dell Poweredge 2850 with 5 146G 10k rpm SCSI drives, this server should smoke. I've ran the dcdiag and netdiag and everything checkes out ok. Since this is my only real physical server, has anyone converted a physical to a virtual while they refreshed a server? I need next to zero downtime during the switchover from physical to virtual, and have a PC ready to accept all the data for the virtual server. Looking for feedback on anyone who has tried anything similar to this. Thanks.

Hi, I have some strange problem. There's network connctivity issues between 2 sites. I got the error "the specified network name is no longer available" when I connect using hostname/IP address. Had checked the name resolution and confirmed that DNS and WINS is working fine. I can ping the destination host(using hostname/IP address) as well connect to the host. I can see the shared folder and printers but the moment I try to access the folder, it takes very long and I got the error message specified above. I can ping the host and got no ICMP packet loss. Do you guys think it is network related issues or the AD giving problem? Thanks. The netstat -s …

Recently I shut down my server 2003 and the 4 clients when I went away for the Thanksgiving holiday. I fired everything back up last night and discovered a few problems: 1. There are 2 DNS error messages in the Server 2003 DNS Event Log: The DNS server was unable to open zone _msdcs.G-4.local in the Active Directory from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.G-4.local. This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the error code. For more information, s…

by Guest Mark- 2 replies

Hey Everyone, I wish to install R2. My understanding is that I can do this directly from CD2? We have 4 DC's spanning across 3 sites with Exchange and SQL. Do I just need to upgrade the Schema for our domain once, then run R2 installation from CD2 on all servers or just the one? If anyone know any good articles that be great as I am finding it hard to locate some articles for upgrade Windows 2003 SP1 DC's to RC2. Cheers, Mark

WSUS configuration
by Guest mc123- 3 replies

Hi, I am working with WSUS, and from what I understand a group of computers that are linked to a WSUS server must either download from MS or from WSUS. I am trying to figure the best way when I have two group of computers and I want one group to download updates from WSUS while another download from MS. Will I need two seperate WSUS server to accomplish this? If so does this have to be two physical boxes? Thanks.
