I am looking for something like SRVCHECK that looks to see if a folder has subfolders and if it does then returns the security permissions on those subfolders. Is there something like this? Thanks in advance.

Auditing
by Guest Santhosh- 0 replies

I have enabled auditing on a directory to log the following: Name: Everyone Delete Subfolders and files (Success and Failure) Delete (Success and Failure) I am trying to log everytime a file is deleted in the directory. i want to capture the file name and who did it. When I leave it set to "everyone", I don't get any entries. If I add a specific username, I only log 564 events. That would be fine, except that 564 events don't tell you what was deleted, it only tells you that the user did delete something: Event Type: Success Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Object Access Event ID: 564 Date: 11/21/2007…

SBS 2003 version and license questions
by Guest Bodie the Dog- 0 replies

I recently inherited a small network running SBS2003 with about 50 XP Pro workstations. My predecessor passed away suddenly and didn't document things well, plus I'm new to the Small Business Server world. Swell. We may have a licensing issue.... Using the Licensing utility I show we have Installed Licenses: 5 and Maximum Usage: 7. My Computer shows we're running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server. Winver shows the same, version 5.2 Locked away I just found 13 license packs (5 devices each) for "Client Access License for Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Transition Pack." I'd like to get us correctly licensed, but …

use of the /pae switch with server 2003 standard
by Guest weaverbeaver- 2 replies

I have a number of servers which contain 4GB memory and have Windows 2003 standard installed. From the OS the servers only show 3GB memory installed. A colleague has rightly pointed out that if I use the /pae switch within the boot.ini file the server then reports the full 4GB memory. As these servers are going to be used to host terminal sessions to thin clients, memory is a key resource which I would like to maximise where possible. My concern is that all docs I have found point to the use of the pae switch to enable addressing more than 4gb memory on the enterprise version of the OS. Is the use of the pae switch supported for the scenario described? or…

Windows Installer may be broken
by Guest Ben Waldon- 1 reply

I have an issue with a Windows Server 2003 Server. We were installing some software, and the installation was abandoned before it could be completed. The server was rebooted and when it came back up, it couldn't start some of the services. A couple to note: Network Connection, Terminal Services, and Windows Installer. I booted into safe mode and disabled the Windows Installer service. I was then able to boot, start the other services, and run applications associated with the other services just fine. However, I can't install antivirus updates, windows updates, or other applications that use .msi files. I tried the procedures from http://support.micro…

FSRM mmc console takes 60+ minutes to load the list of quotas
by Guest MJZRAZ- 4 replies

2003 Server R2 64 Bit in a 3 Node Cluster with 2 SAN Storage drives of 1 TB each. We have 1300 quotas, mostly user home directories and maybe 50 shared departmental directories. When opening the MMC We have to wait over an hour before it loads all the quotas and is useable. If I need to refresh, there goes another 60 minutes. Other than using the command line, is there a faster way to manage this? Do others have this agonizing slow response from FSRM? I have tried it both logged into the server and logged into a workstation and it takes the same time. Our previous experience was with Symantec Storage Exec which had lots of problems, but we hav…

How does authentication work?
by Guest The_Nite_Owl- 10 replies

When a device attempts to connect to a shared drive on another server it is the remote server that requests the credentials to authenticate the connection right? What determines how long the connection can remain before the remote server requests authentication again? We have a Win 2003 server that maps drives to SAN sharespace through another Win 2003 server. The drive mappings are made using a different set of credentials than the current logged on account. Win 2003 server after SP1 no longer caches credentials for connections using a different account than the logon account. When we boot our server the mappings are established but the drives do not…
