Spooler service stopping on Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server
by Guest Jason A Ash- 9 replies

Hello, I've recently run into an issue with a client who is running Windows Server 2008 as a Terminal Server. What is occurring, is the print spooler service is stopping, with no errors or warnings. Restarting the spooler service allows printing to continue. The client is accessing a Foxpro based program, and we are using Remote Application for the remote users, rather than a full desktop. The server is up-to-date on Windows updates. Other clients, connecting to an identical Terminal Server, running the same application, in the same office, have no problems with the print spooler stopping. Any thoughts? Thank you, Jason A.

MSDN Activation

We ran into a situation with a customer and we're trying to figure out the best way to get them sorted out. They had a crash over labor day weekend and both of their servers went down. Their former IT guy wasn't doing everything above board and we're not sure exactly how the crash happened. They didn't actually have any Windows Server software on hand. Their old IT guy had set everything up for them and he is out of the country. Being labor day weekend the only thing we had access to was an MSDN copy of Server 2003. We used this to create the OS for the host server and also a VM server that acts as domain controller. Neither of which were activated.…

DNS Problem ??

Hi to all, i've a problem on my domain (Win2003 Server and XP clients): Often, if i ping a host it does not responds, but the IP that returns probably was previously and now no more working. Assumed that i know the correct IP of that host, if i ping the address with -a flag, it returns the correct hostname.... Example: 1) Ping p-crespi.alerva.local [192.168.15.115] con 32 byte di dati: ---> does not respond 2) Ping 192.168.15.83 -a --> It works and resolve P-CRESPIalerva.local.... Is it a DNS problem or a DHCP problem ? Thanks to everybody in advance Bye Luca

Hi, I set up a domain for my small network (first time). I added up some pc's to the domain without problems. Now I want to add up the printer and share it. I install the printer on the Domain controller server and then try to share it, but strangly the users can't find the printer on their local pc's. Anyone had this problem? What's the easy way to share this printer to everyone? Thanks.

Need Recommendation for Bare Metal Recovery
by Guest Dragon- 2 replies

Hi, We have many remote sites with small servers. I am looking for a solution to make a daily backup of these server for bare metal recovery purposes. These servers are non-critical and all their data is available from central location. goal here not to provide fully redundent recovery but to speed up recovery time. We can always get another server, and download all of the informatiom from the central location. But if I have an expensive solution (USB?) that I can plug into the server and simply restore the OS and existing data from the device, it will make recovery faster than manually installing OS and downloading data from the central. It could be…

Issue with Remote Desktop MMC Plug in
by Guest Tom- 0 replies

Hello, Something has changed on one of our networks to prevent a Remote Desktop MMC from logging into remote desktops without prompting for password. We used to be able to click on any remote desktop in the list and it would just log in without prompting but now the remote machines are prompting for password despite updating the passwords stored in the connections. I checked the policy thoroughly and also ran rsop.msc to make sure a policy wasn't doing it. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

Microsoft Migrates From Servers to Supercomputers
by Guest abhi- 1 reply

Once relegated to the realm of national laboratories, supercomputers have started to move downstream. These days, any business with $25,000 to $100,000 to spare can buy a computing system capable of cranking through very difficult tasks. And, in fact, more businesses than ever have started to buy exactly these types of systems as competitive pressure mounts to perform complex operations faster. With this in mind, Microsoft’s interest in what’s known as high- performance computing (HPC) makes a lot of sense. The world’s largest software maker this week released a new, specialized version of its Windows operating system built to distribute tasks across large grou…

Dear Experts! :-) I've been troubleshooting performance problems on a particular server for a few days now and cannot quite figure this one out. Environment * The server used to be a physical one, was virtualized using VMWare Converter and now running on VMWare Server 1.0.6. * Host machine runs on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with SP2 and has two dual-core Intel 3.2 GHz processors and has 8 GB RAM * Host machine currently hosts the problematic server only Symptoms and attempts to resolve When copying (larger) files from the server, approx. Folder Security Question

I am trying to setup a folder on a network share for students to save there work in. My plan is to have a folder called "In Box" that the students can save finished work to turn in. I would like it so that all the students can save their work here, and edit their own work. But I don't want them to be able to open or modify any one else’s work. I have set folder security on my "In Box" folder to the following: Teacher - Full Control - This Folder, Subfolders, and Files Students - List Folder / Read Data, Create Files / Write Data, Create Folders / Append Data - This Folder Only CREATER OWNER - Full Control - Subfolders and Files only System - Full Co…

Hiya All, In regards to licensing of Win08 for Hyper-V: I am aware of the 1+4 rule for Windows Server licensing however in a HyperV environment i am wondering: 1. Does the +4 rule include downgrade rights to 2003Std 2. Does each of the +4 require additional CAL's for connecting clients or does the baseline determine CAL's across the 1+4 Rule Cheers
