Security log is the same but system logs are fine. Any ideas please?

free up space
by Guest Matt- 12 replies

Hi Folks, I have a 2003 updated server with Exchange 2003 and SMS for Exchange on it. I have cleaned up all temp files, uninstalled all unnecessary programs, cleared my quarantines, etc. I keep slowly losing space still though and I cannot figure out why. I am virus free, no spyware since I have gotten rid of all types of temp files, and cannot figure out why I keep slowly losing space. Are there spots in Windows where there are log files I could clear or anything else at all that might accumulate data over time? Thanks in advance!

tmp files on one account will not go away
by Guest NJ- 0 replies

I keep getting a screen full of temporary files on a general student account at my school. Most of them start with "prf" which leaves me thinking they're temporary preference files? Anyway, I delete them out of the user's folder on the server and have even gone into the lab where the account is enabled to delete these files. No matter what I seem to do they keep coming back. Does anyone have an idea on what's causing this and how to get rid of it?

Windows Server 2003 ASR Question
by Guest Robert Lindholm- 0 replies
Hello: I realize that the Automated System Recovery [ASR] process is different then the Emergency Recovery Disk [ERD] process, but its unclear if I can simply create an ASR disk or can an ASR disk only be created as part of a NTBackup operation? With ERD, you could make an ERD floppy without having to perform an additional backup using NTBackup, but with ASR, it seems as if you need to "piggyback" the ASR process onto a NTBackup. Is there a way to create an ASR disk without performing a NTBackup or if that's not possible, what is the minimal NTBackup type or more specifically how do you select the least amount of data to be backed up during the c…

by Guest Irby- 0 replies

In server 2003, under disk management on one of the volumes there is a little yellow triangle, and the disk states it's 'at risk'. This is a SAN volume attached to the server. What is this and what should we do to resolved this issue? When you right click the volume the options are to re-activate the disk. Any ideas as to what to do? Thanks, David

Windows Server 2003 SP2 Recovery Console Installation Problem
by Guest Robert Lindholm- 0 replies
Hello: When trying to install the Recovery Console from the original Windows Server 2003 [standard Edition] media onto a machine that is now at SP2, I receive the following setup error message: "Setup cannot continue because the current version of Windows on your computer is newer then the version on your CD." While it would have been preferable to have installed the Recovery Console during the initial setup, I would like to have the Recovery Console installed on this machine prior to any future disaster. While I understand that you can envoke the Recovery Console retroactively from the install media, I don't have a high level of confidence that th…

kerbtray.exe shows workstations listed on a DC server.. is thisnormal?
by Guest markm75c@gmail.com- 0 replies

I had had some kerberos errors previously due to DNS having two machine names with the same IP address (i think).. so i deleted those duplicate entries to try to fix things.. Then stumbled onto this tool to look at the kerberos tickets.. But i notice 2-3 workstation names appearing in here.. is there a reason why this would be? I'm not 100% up on kerberos ticketing etc.. Thanks

scheduled task woes
by Guest Thomas R. Hart II- 3 replies

Hello everybody. I'm having an issue with scheduled tasks that I can't seem to put my finger on. I have a task set up (I've set this up both through the gui and the command line btw, just to test) that runs a file C:\pg_backup.bat (right now the file is blank, no commands), with a working directory of C:\. I've tried fixing some of the common pitfalls (not running it from a mapped drive, make sure the runas user has logon as a batch job rights in local security settings) yet every time I try to run this job (right clicking on it and selecting run) it fails and returns an error code of 0x01 (according to a microsoft support article (http://support.microso…

Win 2003 Server, R2, SP1
by Guest Bob in OK- 0 replies

A client of mine tried to apply SP2 and hit a drive space error part way through and had to stop. He didn't screen shot the error so I don't know exactly what it said. If the update process didn't complete shouldn't it have rolled back to the prior state before starting the update? It appears that that ditn't happen as we are having issues with the server being slow and applications won't open and nothing will install - throwing permissions errors - even when logged in as Administrator. Add and Remove programs won't load the list so we can attampt an uninstall of SP2. What are our options - is there another way to remove it?

Feature Request: Print Quotas
by Guest Jeff Patton- 0 replies

We have the ability to quota file usage on a server, which some may recall used to be a separate download, why don't we have the ability to quota print usage? I'm not talking some full-featured, do everything for me type of tool, I'm thinking something that will give me some simple statistics: - # of people printing to a given printer - who prints the most - limit printing based on user account/ownership I've searched Microsoft's site, and it's possible I'm just not seeing it, if that is the case, someone please point me the right way. Thanks,
