WSUS expired IE7 update problem
by Guest andrewg- 0 replies

So it seems MS released an update rollup for IE7 on Oct. 4 2007, then promptly expired it due to problems. Now when I try to go to setup IE7 to deploy to Windows XP the WSUS 3 server is telling the the update has expired. What am I supposed to do now to deploy IE7? Background info: http://www.wsus.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=11083 http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services/browse_thread/thread/aee632b2989b3fec/760158f130fd0ac5?hl=en&lnk=st&q=ie7+expired+wsus# I can see from this I am not alone with this problem. MS needs to release a working updated rollup or I have to figure out how to get the April 11 2007 W…

Problems dismounting USB drive
by Guest Ken L- 1 reply

I have a Win2003 Server Standard R2 w/SP2 with a USB-based hard drive attached which is used for backups. This drive is swapped on a weekly basis with it's "twin brother" (which remains offsite for disaster recovery purposes). Problem that I am having is when I use the system tray tool to "Safely Remove Hardware". About 50 % of the time, the tool comes back and says the drive is in use. If I shut down all the applications on the machine (but not the services), it still says the drive is in use. I've checked the computer management Shared Folders panel and it show no open files or sessions. At this point, I believe it is one of the system service…

Event Logs Not Displaying Correctly
by Guest Breck-Boy- 0 replies

Since moving a Windows 2000 server to VMWare I have noticed that ALL events recorded to the APPLICATION and SECURITY Logs now have "The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event:" The SYSTEM logs appear correctly. How do I correct this so that the correct event information is displayed?

Loss of share permissions on USB drive swap
by Guest Ken L- 0 replies

I am having problems with the resetting of the share permissions I've established when a USB drive is swapped. Here is the scenario . . . I have two, USB2-based external hard drives that I want to use in rotation for backups. While one drive is mounted on the system to receive the current backups, the second drive is stored in a secure location, offsite, for disaster recovery purposes. The online USB drive receives backups from both the machine on which it is mounted, as well as several other machines (through a share defined on the root of the USB drive). Share permissions are set to allow full control to allow the remote machines to manage the bac…

New server setup
by Guest Terry On Windigo- 3 replies

I've setup a few servers but not experienced this before. Any ideas. I am installing server 2003 standard on a computer that has a 130 gig hd, 2.4 Celeron, 512 meg memory. After the CD loads into memory, and after it loads all the setup files into ram, it says "Setup is starting Windows", only it never does. It just stays there. What could I be over looking. I had been running server 2000 on this machine for a little while and wanted to put 2003 on it. The new HD seems to be fine. As a thought, I let the 2000 version partition and format the new drive with NTFS, and it did it just fine, so I doubt it is the HD. Docs say I only need 128 memory, but…

HELP BUILD LAB NETWORK TO MIRROR PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT
by Guest mrndnjn- 2 replies

I have a network that I would like to replicate in a lab environment. I know how however how the domain name of the production environement came to be. I don't know how to replicate this naming convention in a lab environment. I have two servers that are domain controllers. Full Computer Name: abc01.xyz.local Domain: xyz.local Full Computer Name: abc02.xyz.local Domain: xyz.local The 2003 environment was migrated from a NT4 environment that I believe the PDC had a domain name of COMPANY. All the workstations on the network have been joined to the COMPANY domain and the drop down login option displays this as well. My question is why didn't …

Web/IIS change domain password possible (on 2007 exchange box)?
by Guest markm75c@gmail.com- 1 reply

We previously had enabled the web change password (OWA) feature in 2003 exchange... But now we have 2007 exchange with the password change already enabled in OWA.. this is all well and good if the user's password hasnt expired.. if they need to change it, i used to have them goto the IIS / web page and change it from there first, then they could log back into OWA... Is there a way to make this functionality work on IIS on Exchange 2007 (x64)? The reason i need it on the same box is because we use port 443 on that box and it would be a lot simpler to keep everything there. Thanks in advance

Perfmon Logical Disk Counters not availabe remotely
by Guest Bob In the Noc- 0 replies

HI all, I've got several servers that don't offer logical disk counters when accessed remotely. The counters are present when the server itself runs perfmon, they show up and report accurate info. However, when using another system to pull them, the Logical Disk group doesn't even show up. Anyone know about where or how these counters work? I've already verified that diskperf -Y is on (which 2003 indicates is on by default), as well as forcibly toggling this value, no luck so far. -- Remotely managing and monitoring Phoenix AZ Networks

Cannot edit "Log on as a service" and "Allow log on locally" policies on W2K3 server. OK first off this is a repost of my issues. My apologies. I didn't get the answers I needed so I'm trying again. Thanks to those who offered their input. Here's my environment and what I'm trying to do here. Seems simple yet I cannot figure out why I can no longer do this. Windows SBS 2003 Server/Premium SP1/ISA 2004 SP2/MS Exchange 2003 SP2/Dual NIC Windows 2003 Server Standard SP1 I am installing a new version of a program on my W2K3 SP1 server and one of the requirements is to create a "local" user account and grant this account the right to "Log on as a servic…

Win 2003 SP2 Bug?
by Guest Russell Belding- 1 reply

SP2 for Win 2003 was published in Mar 07. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=95ac1610-c232-4644-b828-c55eec605d55&displaylang=en A program, bcdDocuments.exe, providing COM services was already running on terminal servers and working correctly was unaffected as SP2 was installed. This program uses MS Word, all versions using VB, to make documents. Its installation is done by running "..\bcdDocuments.exe /regserver" and its uninstall by running "..\bcdDocuments.exe /unregserver". The program still installs and runs correctly on Win 2003 SP1 and below. It also installs and runs as expected on all versions of Win 2000, Win XP and Vi…

Slow login to Server and Terminal Server
by Guest kev- 1 reply

Hi Recently installed a SBS2003 SP2 and TS Win2K3 Std SP2 and both experience slow logins both through rdp and at the console. I have checked the NIC bindings and the SBS server has the lan NIC first and the ADSL nic second. DNS seems fine i ran netdiag /fix and no errors were shown. Both servers are using the SBS server for primary DNS No errors appear in the event log. No roaming profiles or folder redirection is turned on I have tried putting a user and the TS in its own OU blocked inheritance so no GPO's would apply and still slow login Any ideas what is going on, im at a dead end! Thanks
