How to Setup Anonymous Shares / Null Session Shares
by Guest harmandeep- 0 replies

i need a guide/url for achieving Anonymous / Null Session SMB Shares (Windows Shares ) one more thing , do we need to enable/provide any User account for getting Anonymous Logons ( mainly Guest acc as it don,t require any pass @ network logons ) One guide is here http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/~mr349/windows/anonymous_network_logon_print_server.html But the same question here , why any User acc ( guest in this case ) is being enabled for getting anonymous / null shares I m considering Workgroup Model nd not the Domain Model -- harmandeep ------------------------------------------------------------------------ harmandeep's Profile: http://forums.techare…

sort causes page faults on server machine
by Guest JÅns MÁrtin SchlÁttÅr- 5 replies

We have a win 2003 server which is accessed by multiple clients (around 10) by RDP. The machine has 4GB memory. When we start a SAS sort, the performance monitor shows a lot of page faults, but the machine has still 2GB memory available. Why does a process experience page faults when there is plenty of memory free? Martin

I use ntbackup for my backups. I have 5 scheduled tasks running 1 for each day so that i have a full weeks of backups. I radomly test the backup files by doing a restore of a few files. My problem is that when i go to restore i see all the backups that were done since 2003 and takes forever to find the backup that im looking for. How can i delete those old links cause the files dont exist? Also if a folder gets deleted the entire backup will fail cause the bks file has that folder in it. Is there a way to prevent this? Here is my friday backup (for example) command that i have in the task scheduler. C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\BackupS…

Windows must be activated.
by Guest Ray234- 1 reply

I have a user that was trying to open their PST file in Outlook, and it was showing that it could't be accessed. I tried to RDP to the server, and it gave me a message that "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can login... Do you want to activate now?". I clicked cancel last week when it happened, and it rebooted the server. All was fine after reboot. I clicked No today, and it logged off the RDP session. The user still can't access the PST file, and I can't RDP to the server. It is several years old, so it's not a new installation issue. Any ideas?

Permissions error - Windows Server 2003 R2
by Guest Mike- 3 replies

Hi folks, I installed a Windows Server 2003 R2 a few weeks ago onto our network/domain, and all went fine. It is not a DC, it is a member server. I'm not trying to install Symantec AV Server on it via a unc path from another server and got the below error, and when I copy the downloaded software onto the desktop and click on the setup.exe file, I get the same error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I'm logged in as the domain admin, and this is the only machine I am having this trouble with. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

Remote Access to Windows 2008 Server
by Guest Patrick- 0 replies
We just install our first Windows 2008 Server. We find that when we use RDP to access it, it works as remote access (we haven't used /admin option). From the web, we learn that Windows 2008 supports 2 active session if TS is not installed. If it is true, we wonder why RDP session is a Console Session. Your advice is sought.

Rebooting a Vista laptop crashes domain controller!
by Guest Qu0ll- 6 replies

I am not sure if this is a Vista problem or a W2K3 problem so please forgive the cross post. I have a laptop running Vista SP1 and a domain controller running Server 2003. Everything works just fine until I reboot the laptop at which point the server freezes completely and needs to be rebooted brutally. There are no relevant or interesting events in the event logs of either machine and in fact the laptop goes on functioning normally with no apparent problems (except of course that it can't access files on the server etc.) after such an event. This is new behaviour for about a month now and was not apparent before then. There have been numerous changes (up…

Internet Explorer can't use proxy server on windows 2003 R2
by Guest James Matthews- 2 replies
Hi We have just installed 3 new Windows 2003 R2 servers with all the latest patches but we are having a problem using our proxy server via internet explorer. The servers can browse the internet when not connected to the proxy (when we open the firewall rules) but when we enter the proxy IP address and port into IE all access fails. Other servers in the same subnet can use the same proxy server and it is working correctly for all other machines. You can telnet on port 80 to the proxy and get the correct response so routing and firewall connections are working correctly. Any ideas as to how we can resolve this?

2008 Retail Licence

I am the proud owner of a copy of 2008 Enterprise with 25 Cals, as of Friday there :) I have one question, and I know that should really know the answer to this, but.... I am about to purchase hardware for this fine product, but I want to give it a blast right now, which got me thinking, I know I can install it onto some existing piece of hardware and just use it in pre-activation mode (eval?) for the tryout, but will I be able to move it to another server if it has been activated on another? Will the license allow this? I mean what happens if you want to upgrade your server to a better model, can it be done? or will I have to look out for black seda…

Papersizes
by Guest Christian- 10 replies

Hi, I set up several custom papersizes. These papersizes are used to choose the correct papertray of the printer. Unfortunatly the printer ignores them if their ID is greater than 128. Tried to delete some older papersizes but the id is always incremented. So how can I change the papersize-id? Many Thanks Christian

app inhereted permissions
by Guest Guillermo G. Lovato- 4 replies

Hello, is it possible to inherit permission from an application on a folder(like on AS/400)?. we don't want the user to have access to the folder or files of an application(that runs on a network shared folder for instance) but if he launches the application(which he do has perms) the app MUST have access to those files. so, is it possible to make the app impersonate automatically(embedding a user inside the code) to have access to those files in the context of the user but hte user itself doesn't?(like an embedded runas but not on the commandline as the user must not know this credential nor have way to discover it). regards, Guillermo
