RADIUS vs. Computer GPO before user logon
by Guest Marek- 2 replies

Hi everyone, strange problem I have. I use RADIUS server authentication on LINKSYS switch ethernet ports using PEAP MSCHAP V2 on client site. The problem is Computer GPO is trying to apply computer settings before NIC is authenticated and eth.port unlock. Netlogon error 5719 in EventLog. If I disable RADIUS on particular port everything become OK. Booting behavior is like this: 1. Preparing network connections 2. Applying computer settings - only blink 3. CTRL-ALT-DEL logon dialog 4. User GPO after logon work 5 gpupdate /force in command promt works too note: I run the ping from another machine during the startup I recieve response after Applying co…

How do I rebuild the Active Directory?
by Guest jenny m- 2 replies

Hi all How do I rebuild/repair the Active Directory? Are there any DCDIAG options besides "/fix"? I ask because my AD D&T MMC snap-in shows no data on the PDC (except a lone "mydoamin.local" icon) & its the same on the other DC... so maybe not an MMC issue. Could someone streer me to a good AD care & maintainence guide? If anyone has ay ideas why the snap-in would not show any data I'd really appreciate it. BTW, it was working fine until about a week ago when the server had an abrupt restart... since then no AD D&T MMC... All the tests I know to run come up fine - dcdiag /c & nslookup etc.. are there anymore tools I can us…

Windows Connection disconnection issue
by Guest pedestrian via WinServerKB.com- 2 replies

I'm using Windows Server 2003 and a DLink 4-port Router with built-in model. I always use my server OS PC as a stand alone workstation and connect using ADSL connection to serve the net like windows XP (Local Area Connection in Windows) However, my windows LAN connection sometimes disconnect and reconnect immediately. (with the LAN icon in the taskbar appear - disconnect and disappear - connect again immediately). When I check my DLink router, the connection was indeed never disconnected. I don't think the issue is with my ISP. Are there any settings in Windows Server 2003 that I need to set to avoid the issue? Kindly advise, thanks... -- Reg…

Windows Update scans, won't download
by Guest Shawn- 2 replies

Strange issue I haven't ever seen before. I have a client running Server 2003 SP 1 and recently decided to update them to SP 2. Of course Winodws update has been bugging me to install SP 2 for some time, but I just recently got around to testing on one of their test servers and got the green light as all looked good. I went to the Windows update site, scanned the server and it showed SP 2, like it should. I clicked 'Download and Install' and to my dismay, the download showed as 'failed'. I figured it was because of the IE enhanced security, so I uninstalled the IE enhanced Security and tried again. Still scanned fine, but showed up as 'failed' on the do…

Request a new certificate
by Guest Aaron- 2 replies

I'm running Windows Server 2003 SBS and trying to export an SSL certificate of a web site. I go into the MMC, add the Certificates snap-in, select Computer Account, Local Computer, and expand the Personal Certificates. After selecting the appropriate certificate, choosing export, it does not give me the option to click, "Yes, export the private key." It is my understanding that this will happen if the key has already been exported. Therefore, it should work if I requested a new certificate for the site. I then open the IIS manager, navigate to the web site, and choose Server Certificate under Directory Security. My options are to either renew, remove, or repla…

Service startup question....
by Guest Joe- 1 reply
I have a service supplied by a vendor and it has little documentation and the vendor has not answered my question as of yet. So I have been hacking at this service to get it to accept the startup parameters to customize the service. If I put the service executable in the "Path to executable" along with the startup parameters that we need, the service discards the parameters. However if I supply the same startup parameters in the box "Startup parameters" it works as expected. My only issue is that when I enter this information and start the service the setting isn't sticky. How can I enter this information so that it stays consistent across reboots? …

permissions
by Guest Michele Hamilton- 2 replies

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong place to ask for help. We have a Server 2003 machine. The man who was setting it up died. Every thing seems to be done except for users being added (from other machines). I need to know how to add, say, Mike and Jackie each with their own folders and permissions and a group folder for all. Is there an article on that somewhere?:) I appreciate it:) The server drive already shows up on each machine. Michele:)

by Guest Brian McGrew- 4 replies

Is very strange! If I try to connect wiht \\servername\sharename I get "the network path was not found". However if I connect with \\ip_address\sharename everything is fine. DNS appears to be working OK. WINS is working OK and I can ping all the servers and clients by qualified and unqualified hostname. What should I be looking for here? Using Windows Server 2003R2/32-Bit with WinXP Pro/32-Bit, all on Dell hardware. -brian

Migrate from Server 2003 R2 to R1
by Guest Alasdair Campbell- 4 replies

Hi, I've been evaluating a copy of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2. I've since been allocated a product key for Server 2003 Enterprise R1 under the e-academy network. However I am unable to perform a repair install / upgrade as I would be upgrading to a previous version. So my other option is to do a clean install and restore my backed up settings, however I'm unsure as what to backup, and what to leave out. IE If I did a full backup and then tried to restore over the R1 install, I would be installing R2 software and probably the same time restriction. I would just like to backup all the settings for my domain - users, groups, dns, dhcp , wins et…

account lock out
by Guest pete0085- 1 reply

I am trying to confgure account lockout on the local machine (Windows and Server 2000) and it's not taking affect as I think it should. I went to run, gpedit.msc, account policies, account lockout. Lockout duration is set to 30 minutes, 5 invalid attempts, reset after 30. The local and effective setting are the same. I am using the local administrator account on these machines. We do have a gpo setting for all machines on the domain through the default domain policy. A recently internal audit indicated 4 machines have a zero lockout policy and all 4 machines are either windows 2000 or server 2000. I have tried to lock myself out and been unable to…
