Something strange just happened in the last week or so. I have a lightweight server running 2003SP2 on my office LAN. The server has been up and running for the past couple of years and had no backup problems until a week ago. The server has been backup to to a USB hard disk which is filling up. So I bought a new 750GB USB (WD My Book) and connected to the server for backup. The backups are completed fine but when the verification starts after the backup, the event log will be filled with ftdisk and ntfs errors pointing to the USB hard disk. I had tried a Seagate Freeagent Pro 750 instead and the same thing happens. Backup will be successful and ev…

Any thoughts RE: Remote Access and DDNS
by Guest David- 0 replies

Hi We have several hundred remote users. It has come to my attention that when they VPN in they don't update their DNS records automatically. This can only it can be done by running the ipconfig /registerdns command. We have a RAS server on the network and two DHCP servers which assign the clients IP addreses. Both DHCP servers are relay agents for the RAS. I have checked DHCP and it is set too "Always dynamically update A records and PTR records" both on the server level and on the scope. I think the problem maybe that a computer only registers its DNS when it starts up, and when they initialise the VPN to the office it doesn't. On the properties of the V…

I am setting up a new domain and need domain users using thin clients to log onto a terminal server 2003. I am unable to get any domain users (except for the admin) to log onto these servers. I have added these users to the Remote Desktop Group and changed the Group policy to allow users to log onto a terminal server. Is there anything I am missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

"Atleast one service failed" error is coming during startup. Log on takeeeees long time. Then application task bar is not working okay, help & support not opening. Cannot copy/paste anything. No network adapters found. It kind of looks a bit same than SP2 problems allthough worse. I tried to alter RSS and offline settings provided by Microsfot pages. I cannot install any KBxxxx files as it claims that Cryptographic service is not running. Actually most of the automatic run services are not running ! I cnanot install analyzer either as it won´t let msinstall to run. Event viewer is not working, it won´t let open any logs. WHat can I do ? It has been worki…

Hi, This is Saravanan and I'm working as a Windows System Admin in a company. I need a favour from you regarding the NTFS Permission on a Folder. Will be thankful if you help on the below given query. Problem: In my Company Setup , we have a Domain Controller which is having more than 500 Users. In that Domain Controller we have a Share Folder called " Installables" which contains lot of folders and files into that. Access Permission for that " Installables " Folder varies for all of the Users. I mean ..... some users have the full access for that folder. Some users have limited access for that folder and lot …

Server Appliance Kit - Changing default self signed cert expiratio
by Guest joemoedee- 0 replies

I have a server appliance which for customer access does not need anything more than the self signed and generated Certificate. The problem is, these last only a year. I really would rather them not see the expired certificate warning. So, I have a two part question in reference to this. 1. Is there a way to change the default expiration to something greater than a year? 2. Outside of having the customer log on to the box and delete the certificates in IIS and through MMC and subsequently rebooting to regenerate the certificates, is there a way to make the appliance renew the certificates automatically? Thanks!
