Slow Bootup
by Guest Thom Paine- 2 replies

I have a Dell Poweredge 2850 that is horribly slow to boot up. I've run the dcdiag as well as netdiag and it reports no errors. It literally takes 10 minutes to boot up, with it waiting longest at the preparing network connections. Are there any other diagnostic tools I can run on this thing to see what the problem could be? The server runs dns and AD. We connect to the outside world with a Cisco Pix. the default GW on the server is the IP of the pix and the server's ip is the only address listed in the dns server in the network connection. Anyone else experience this and could help me out with it? I'm disgusted with this server because it should b…

Hi, I have an application running on Windows server 2003 R2 Std in Terminal services. This application sends email notifications out when certain things happen. It works perfectly on my system and others (locally and not in TS), but the emails disappear without an error when sent from the app in TS. I am hoping that I am overlooking something obvious or that you can point me in the right direction to look. Thanks in advance P

System specs: Windows Server 2003 R2 Sp2 build 3790 srv03_sp2_gdr.070304-2240 Service Pack 2 Its the PDC for our domain "CL.local" & has exchange & sql server installed & running. Using Win2003Ent. I have a drive that only has two folders. When I right click on properties for the two folders, one folder shows size of 0 and the other shows size of 3MB. However, when I look at properties for the drive it shows 21G capacity with only 3G free. I have show hidden files and folders turned on. If there are hidden folders/files on that drive how do I see them? What else could it be. I've emptied the recycle bin. Thanks, -- Dan D.

Hello All, I would like to pre-initialize ActiveX Controls for certain internal website for our users connecting over RDP. I don't want them to have to go through the process of Accepting the Publisher Certificate when they are trying to access the Active X controls. How can this be achieved? All controls are internally developed and signed by valid Verisign issued Authenticode SPCs Any ideas? Thanks saqib http://security-basics.blogspot.com/

What I'm needing: My server to email me when alerts are tripped. What I've done: In the alert properties there is an option to run a program or batch file. I googled and found blat, an app tha tsend email form the cli. I've written and tested a batch using blat that works fine. I get eth email everytime. When I configure an alert to tell me when my c:\ is less than 100% free (for testing only) I cna see the event show up in the log and while I've browsed to the blat batch file in configuring the alerts it never sends me the email. In fact I don't believe the batch file ever starts. I"m running Server 2003 R2. I'm not tied to blat but I'm not great…

Odd discrepancy in display of NTFS settings
by Guest Bryan L- 0 replies

I have been using folder redirection in my domain for some time and recently used article 288991 to ensure that I was following best practices for securing the redirected folders. The domain controller and the server hosting the redirected share are both running Server 2003, all clients are XP Pro SP2. I want to grant Domain Admins, SYSTEM, and CREATOR OWNER full access to redirected folders. This should ensure that users have exclusive access to their folders with the exception that Domain Admins also have full access. Share permissions are set to Everyone: Full Control. The odd behavior is observed when I try to set/check the permissions for CREATOR OWNER…

64 bit vs 32 bit file systems
by Guest wlhj@news.postalias- 1 reply

I am a sys admin for a small local gov. entitity. We are considering upgrading our Exchange Server from the 2003 version to the 2007 version. We will have to upgrde the server to Windows 2003 64 bit. Presently for backups we copy the files to another Windows 2003 server (32 bit) and then to removeable hard drives, which we rotate. My question is this. Will we still be able to do a copy of these files from the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 to the 32 bit version or will there be some compatability issues?

ActiveSync, IIS, ISA2006 + WM5
by Guest Chris- 0 replies

Hi, Let me first describe the scenario: We have a server2003 server running Exchange and OWA and OMA for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. IIS is running the Exchange but all as HTTP, i.e. not HTTPS secured. We have a 2nd server2003 server running ISA2006. This has a published rule that forwards all HTTP traffic for the Windows Mobiles to our exchange server. Everything is running as HTTP including IIS, Windows Mobile and the ISA publish server rule. We'd like to make this more secure, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. I think using certificates is the best idea so far, but it's where we install the certificates and how. I believe certific…
