RDP DRIVE MAPPING
by Guest Tristan- 0 replies
We seem to be experiencing problems with the drive mapping on our server when connecting via RDP. An example of this: I (Jo Bloggs) connect to the server and see my drive mapped through as "C on Jo Bloggs Computer". Now when Client 2 and Client 3 connect to the server they are also getting "C on Jo Bloggs Computer" as is every other user. However the C drive mapping is my local drive but just has another name for drive mapping which always "on Jo Bloggs Computer" Has any one experienced this before and how can I rectify this? Thanks in advance Tristan

by Guest Special Access- 0 replies

Most of our users access a web site remotely, but use a local authentication for access. Problem is they can't tell when their password is expiring until it's expired and authentication fails. Is there a way to tell if the password is expired on an account in AD via scripting? Thanks Mike

Windows Server 2003 and dll issue
by Guest Pat- 2 replies

Hi! Does anyone have a clue why our application crashes in an Windows 2003 server environment when I start my application (.exe). I seems that the application crash happens when the program accesses my dll file which includes borland code. Is this some security setting somewhere in 2003 server or does anyone have an idea where to look. The log viewer is empty... We do not have this problem on any other operating system. Just 2003 server... Thanks Pat

Server freezing after installing Win2k3 SP2
by Guest Ruginski- 0 replies

Hi! I have 2 2003 servers freezing during the daily backup. I cannot even ping the server, but it's not completely frozen because I can log on it in the console. It stated to happen after a installed Win2k3 SP2 a week ago. The backup is done with Brighstor 11.5 on a backup libary, so the backup is done through the network... I don't know if it's a new "security update" on SP2 that blocks network traffic when you start to transfer a huge amout of data, but it's really getting me crazy! :o the server is a HP ML 380 G5. Does somebody by anychance have an idea about what can it be??? PLEEEEASE!!!! :o Regards, Rafael.

server protection
by Guest dbs- 1 reply

I have an office, and all our files run off the server. Recently, a bunch of files were moved from the appropriate folder to a completely different location. We restored a backup we had, and then we found the original files. We have no idea how they were moved or who did it. Assuming this was an accident, is there a way to password protect the files on the server, so that before you move something you have to confirm that it's okay? If not, are there any ways to make sure that files don't get moved around?

Storage server 2003 R2 and NAS box

Hi, I am considering buying a cheap Dell poweredge 840 storage server 2003 R2 workgroup edt. for my remote office plus a Thecus N5200 NAS box. The specs. for the Thecus NAS box says it supports Active Directory. Does Windows storage server 2003 R2 support shares on a NAS appliance not directly attached as DAS/SAN to use with DFS? I am planning to use DFS to replicate data between the above setup and main office DAS system. Regards Robert Vilhelmsen

Adding paging file on D drive
by Guest Cindy B- 6 replies

Hi - Hopely someone can give some advice on this. I have a GIS server that is getting Virtual memeory errors and running slow. The server has 3 gig RAM. I checked the paging file and it is only 384MB. ouch! However, when I try to increase the size - I get a message that there is not enough space on C to increase it. I have a large D drive with 80% free space. What is my best option? should I just add a paging file to D, and leave the current one on C as it is? The Virtual memory screen is showing minimum should be 2MB - and recommended is 5374. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance for your time! -- Cindy B

I have a Windows 2003 server that I run an offsite backup. If the offsite connection is not available I would like to run a 2nd step (like in SQL Server) that only runs if the 1st step fails. Is this possible, and if so how? Can I run something that tests for a connection? Thanks. David

Server 2003 Standard Sluggish Performance?
by Guest Chris LeFebvre- 4 replies

I have a Compaq Proliant series server with 4 - 900Mhz Pentium 3 Xeon Cpu's and a gig of ram with dual 10/100 ethernet adapters set up as a team. This server is running Server 2003 Standard with all available service packs and updates and it's used as our mail server. The overall performance of this server seems very slow and sluggish and I haven't been able to find a reason for this. I've been doing some testing on a couple of desktop computers setup with Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Server 2003 Standard and I believe that I've been able to duplicate the problem so as to be able to illustrate the severity of the performance problem. Of the two systems t…

I've seen some 'recommendations' on the internet to disable the "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" (LMHOSTS) service on Windows machines. Many of them specifically mention this in regard to Windows XP or Windows 2003 machines. Some are not specific to O/S at all. In the interest of supposed security, a technician on my network disabled it on some Windows 2000 domain member servers (in a Windows 2003 native mode domain). I got the call that those machines were not processing policy. After some research, I found the main symptom was the machines were unable to enumerate SYSVOL or NETLOGON on our DCs (via SMB). I found that service above disabled. Upon re-enabl…
