Surprise Shotdown
by Guest CLM- 11 replies

I posted this yesterday but didn't get much of a response, so I thought I'd try again: We have a Win 2003 Ent SP2 server that just shuts down unexpectedly. The admins never tell me what has happened with this box. I looked in Event Viewer and there's no clues there. Furthermore, Perf Mon logs do not show anything unusual, i.e. high activity, etc. Where else can I look to find out what is going on with this server? I guess what I'm asking is what logs (besides event viewer) can I look at to see why this keeps going belly up and how do I find them?

Hi. I have following case: Windows 2K3 Server, DC + Exchange (This also has McAffe GroupShield for antivirus + GFI MailEssentials for anti-smap + DHCP) doing great. Upgrade to SP2 nice (1 month ago or so) Well... Two days ago I had to restart the server. Then the POP3 and IMAP services didn´t work ok... Well... After a first reboot (same happened) I set them manually and restart again. Once server booted I start them manually and they work... ok... But I didn´t like the situation because if server had to restart (power supply cuts, etc) it would be bad until I have the time to react and start the POP3/IMAP services. Well... I install updates for …

Server 2003 Standard hanging on client side intermittently
by Guest EdRoche- 0 replies

File server, New HP DL380 with teamed NICs. Loads of ram and processors etc. Clients experiencing intermittent hanging while browsing folders, lasts about 5 seconds and occurs maybe every 30 seconds. At the server console this doesnt happen and I am thinking of the network card. They are connected to a cisco switch, most likely auto conf speed on the switch ports. Will swap patch cables to start. I reckon it might be a driver for the NICs/team. Drivers came off the smartstart CD assisted server install. Any recommendations?

Default SMTP Virtual Server Refused to Start
by Guest HF- 0 replies
I just install smtp services in IIS. However it refused to start. I got the error message: The service has returned a service-specific error code. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details However, nothing was logged in the event viewer. I found an KB Article, 840761, which described the similar issue. However, no exchange server installed in my Windows Server 2003. The server only installed with IIS, ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0 Is there any other way i can troubleshoot this issue?

I know this is not a MS issue however, maybe someone still can help me. I have two HP ML380 server with a RAID 5 configuration. On one server it want keep the Array 641 from HP as a primary boot controller. If I restart the server there is no problem, however, I the server is shut down the only way I can boot is to enter the configuration Screen (F8) to select the Array again as boot controller, but then again it won't save it and the next time there is the same problem again. I don't believe it is a flat battery in the BIOS as the time and other configurations are not changed. I really would appreciate if someone could help me, it is driving me mad…
