Sonicwall CDP won't restore AD unless AD is up.Help!!!!
by Guest soup_or_power@yahoo.com- 0 replies

Hi Our win2k server throws the error "security manager service could not be initialized; restart the server in active directory restore mode". After restarting in active directory restore mode and running ntdsutil (semantic data analyzer), there was a problem with Jetdatabase. So I tried to restore AD from backup (Sonicwall CDP). According to Sonicwall tech support the restoration can be done if AD is up. How do I check if AD is up? What process/service? The Sonicwall tech support even goes to the length of saying reinstall the OS and recreate AD. How do I do that? Thanks for your help

Rebooting server causes PC to lose connection
by Guest Net Admin- 8 replies

I have 2 Domain Controllers at my site. Both are Global Catalog Servers, DNS servers, WINS servers, and are version 2003 Standard with SP2. When I reboot either one, some of my servers report errors about not bieng able to connect to other servers in my domain such as the database server. In the IP properties of each member server I have both DNS server IPs entered. Is there a timeout period that has to occur before the member server switches over to another DC to authenticate or resolve names? If so, how to I speed that process up? Thank You

Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 Capabilities
by Guest Stephen Heward- 3 replies

We have recently purchased WSS2003 R2 boxes. I have noticed that in the add/remove options you can install most all the standard Windows Server 2003 Functions such as DNS, DHCP, IIS, etc... Are these server functions actually supported under Windows Storage Server? It also looks like dcpromo can run from these boxes?

Unplanned Shutdown Research
by Guest CLM- 4 replies

We have a Win 2003 Ent SP2 server that just shuts down unexpectedly. The admins never tell me what has happened with this box. I looked in Event Viewer and there's no clues there. Furthermore, Perf Mon logs do not show anything unusual, i.e. high activity, etc. Where else can I look to find out what is going on with this server? What logs can I look at to see why this keeps going belly up and how do I find them?

Exchange2k3, Again
by Guest NuBee- 6 replies

From previous post (thanks for previous advice/guidance): I am running w2k3 SP2 (PDC FSMO) with AD, IIS6.0, SMTP, NNSTP, ASP, ASPNET, etc. I am trying to install Exchange Server 2003 on another win2k3 server that is a member of the domain. I logged in as the Administrator (built-in account of the FSMO) on the win2k3 server that I want to install Ex2k3 on. I ran the dcdiag and netdiag tools and everthing seemed fine in the logs that were generated. So, I ran /forestprep with Ex2k3 setup. It said either I did not have sufficeient privileges/permissions or that AD was too busy. I checked on the FSMO and the built-in admin account is a member of Ente…

Trying to set-up Exchnage 2k3 on win2k3 server SP2
by Guest NuBee- 4 replies

I am running win2k3 server SP2 (and logged on to this machine) and am trying to set-up Exchange 2003 server on it. This win2k3 machine (not the FSMO or AD enabled) is a member of a domain that has a FSMO win2k3 server. This machine and the FSMO are connected to the same router which is connected to a DSL modem (that is connected to the Internet). The DSL modem is bridged with the router. The router runs the DHCP. This machine and the FSMO have static IP's (non-routable). However, the FSMO (due to the bridge with the router and DSL modem) has the routable IP address when seen from the Internet. I get this information from the dcdiag tool: Domain C…

by Guest Chris- 2 replies

I installed a new server couple months ago and applied DST patch KB931836. But it didn't take effect this weekend. The time changed to standard time. I had to apply the new DST patch KB933360. But on a cluster I have KB931836 and it works good. Do I need to apply KB933360 too? Thanks.

need more disk space on server
by Guest Greg- 2 replies

This is a second post since my first was taken over by another user and my question never got answered. I have an HP Proliant ML350 server running Windows Server 2003 and have two 34GB hard drives that are mirrored using a Basic (not Dynamic) disk setup. I have run low on disk space (2GB free) and would like to just increase the size of the current logical drive. I have installed two more 34GB drives that are mirrored (I assume because of the RAID controller settings since they show as one 34GB logical drive). When looking at the "Disk Management" profiles of the installed disks under the Computer Management console, it shows the existing disks as "D…
