Daylight Savings Time

I have a large AD Domain still at Windows 2000 Native, under conversion to Windows 2003 (adprep and forest prep done and Windows 2003 DC's - no sp1) and we patched last March for DST. If I do not apply the August 2007 cumulative patch, will my clocks roll properly on the first Sunday in November ? My understanding is that there are only four changes in foreign countries. The new patch requires SP 1 on Windows 2003. Thanks! Charlie

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 machine as my print server. I am able to install and share printers wthout a problem. All of my client computers can add the printers on the server by telling the print wizard specifically where to go but all but one doesn't show up when I try to add them by using the printer directory. I double checked that the "List in the directory" box is checked but still I get nothing.

We have made sub-folders for our pool cars in public folders and these can be seen through a link in our favourite folder. Before the name would be displayed as just the number plate for example the folder would be called xx-yy-01 (dutch number plate). We could display 5 car folders next to each other with out any problems but since about a week the names of the folders also include the the name public folder. Because the name is now so long it is not possible the five folders next to each other, for example:- The folder name is displayed now as "xx-yy-01 in public folder" To solve the problem we tried two switsches: /cleanview and / resetnavpane but it d…

Windows Server 2003 - How do I prevent users from changing the printer setting from black and white to color? I need to assign users print permissions on the server. They can not change any of the settings on the printer properties page but they do have the ability to click on Printing Preferences when using Word or Excel and change from black and white to color.

ForeFront for little Domain
by Guest Patrick D.- 4 replies

Hi, I couldn't find a newsgroup named "ForeFront". I want to implement ForeFront in a very little Domain. Since I am new to ForeFront I wonder, that during the hardware-test at the beginning of the installation I am asked to mount rather "heavy" hardware, to roll out ForeFront. How do I roll out ForeFront in a very small business? Is there a whitepaper or an url for such a scenario? Thanks for your hint. regards Patrick

Windows Server Hardware Cooling Question
by Guest Elliott Gaskill- 1 reply

Uh I know this may not be the right place to ask, but I have an office move coming up and I'm trying to determine the AC unit I need to get for the server room. The room is 11'2" x 9'0" x 9'0" for a total of roughly 905 cubic feet of space. All of the equipment should consume at absolute peak 9000watts. Now I just took the peak input wattage on all of the power supplies and UPS's and such and added them. I know that most likely the amount consumed will be less, but I don't know anything about that kind of stuff. If anyone can help me out with my problem, or direct me where to ask I'd be very appreciative. Thanks! -- Elliott Gaskill IT Direc…

Policy for Windows Media Player

Windows 2003 R2 Std SP2 Active Directory Windows XP Pro SP2, Media Player 9 Don't know if this is the right place to ask. If I'm in the wrong group, please let me know which group is more appropriate. I'd like to prevent Windows Media Player 9 (and later versions) from accessing the internet so users can't use the bandwidth to listen to internet radios, watch movie previews etc. Removing default gateway isn't an option because users must still be able to access the internet. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Use GPO? Thanks much.

Hello, I'm getting a bunch these messages every two hours in my Windows 2003 application log. The servers in question do not have outbound internet access. Message: Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt> with error: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. What does this mean? How can I manually update this? We do not have Microsoft Updates enabled on the servers and use Shavlik to push our patches. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

XP Logon Authentication
by Guest ridicker2@gmail.com- 1 reply

I came to a branch location to install a new router, but while you're here... This question came up. (They claim) Suddenly in the middle of the day (of course the day of my arrival), when the user logged on after lunch that their Home directory (H:) failed to show up. Now I know XP stores like the last 10 successful login attempts and then if there is no DC to authenticate against, XP goes ahead and logs in, without notifying you. So I tried the usual reboot, check TCP setting, firewalls, etc. Finally, I decided to go ahead with a 'net use' command to locate the server. This came back successful and I could now map her H:. BUT, if I logged off the local sy…
