by Guest hmatthews- 4 replies

Hello, I have three servers that exist in a DMZ and I use the Kanguru data bank (external hard drive) as the place to store the data. There are two drives and I have 156GB free space on one drive and 212GB of free space on the other; the file system is NTFS and it's attached via USB to server 1. Server 1's backups are running as they should for daily and weekly but server 2 & 3 are failing with the following issues. Server 1 - Windows 2000 SP4 - has the Kanguru attached via USB and is working correctly. Server 2 - Windows 2003 SP2 - not running as scheduled and when I try to run it manually it tells me that the destination is not valid or th…

Hello I have just moved to a company that purchased, in 2005, several Server and Exchange CALs under an eOpen agreement. This agreement is now showing up as expired in the eOpen website. Does this mean we are now no longer eligible to upgrades and support but we still on the licences. Or to stay legal do we need to upgrade the licences? Many Thanks Neil

by Guest Kelly Armitage- 9 replies

I have a question that should be simple yet I always have issues mapping drives using group policy. I connect to server 2003, joining the domain on a windows xp pro pc. On the server I have group policy set on the OU which contains my user. Under windows settings / logon I have a simple script to map a drive. the drive maps yet disconnects eventually requiring me to log off and on to re-run the script. (or mapping the drive manually) and i cant understand why such a simple thing is such an issue for me. the script file is called logon.bat and the batch file looks like this NET USE z: \\server01\archives$ /PERSISTENT:yes can anyone make any sug…

Folder Permissions

The diagram below depicts the scenario. A level 1 folder contains an access db. This db automatically creates the level 2 & 3 folders. I want users to be able to use the db to create the level 2 & 3 folders, but once created, I do not want them to be able to delete, move, or rename the folders. They should, however, be able to add files to the level 2 & 3 folders, as well as edit/rename/modify/change any file in these folders. Is this possible? What would the permissions be? Level 1 Folder |_____ Level 2 |_____ Level 3 |_____ Level 3 |_____ Level 2 |_____ Level 3 |_____ db.mdb (Users are using Windows XP SP2.......I can only…

Changing Server IP Addresses.
by Guest Rich B- 0 replies

Hello, I have two DC running Windows 2000. I have gone through the steps to prepare the 2000 servers for two new 2003 DC's. There were no problems with the preparation of the 2000 servers or the installation/promotion of the new servers. I have DNS installed and I am in the process of copying the DCHP and WINS databases to the new servers. We have over 100 thin clients over a very large geographical area that do not use DHCP so what I would like to do before I decommission the 2000 servers is to change the IP addresses of the new servers to the old servers and visa versa. Does anyone know if there are any problems with doing this? -- Rich

WDS pxe boots
by Guest MrMako- 0 replies

I hope this is the best place to post this as I saw no WDS forum. I have a WDS server setup running on Win2k3 Sp2 and everything seems to be initialized. I can PXE boot a machine and it will show up in the pending devices windows. I had the system auto accept the client and it made an AD computer object, but the process was interrupted so we had to start over. Now for that machine only we get this error: PXE-E55: Proxy DHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011 All other machines we can PXE boot and they appear in pending, but then if we try a second time they fail. It is as if WDS records their MAC and will not let them PXE boot a second time. We…

Slow File Replication
by Guest gspotts- 2 replies

I have three servers in a replication group 1 windows 2003 R2 & 2 windows 2003 sp2. When a file is changed on thr R2 server it replicates immediately. When I change a file on the primary sp2 server it takes ages (up to 6 hours) to replicate. I have set the replication priority between these two servers to high but it has made no difference. I have also tried stoping & restaring the file replication service on each server. This has an initial effect then it reverts to 'normal'. It should be noted that the two servers in question are networked on a domain via a VPN. Any suggestions would be welcomed

Our new client is very interesting to have a Intra Web. They have't have a server before. Because of School Agreement Product Catalog (SBS is not available) theiywill have 2003 srv std and Exchange std. I'm not so familiar with 2003 std rather with 2003 SBS. Is there a Company Web in 2003 std? In SBS world there is a easy Wizard to implemen Companys Internal Web Site. If Companys Web is available also in 2003 srv std, how can I chnge it's language to Finnish rather than English? Thank You in advantage, Juha Rimmi Finland

Hi All, I'm having the following problem. We have two Exchange servers both are running W2K3 SP2 with Exchange 2003 SP2 and all hotfixes installed. The problem is that both have problems after a reboot. When the server is rebooted the RPC Services failed and all services depending on it will also fail (Netlogon etc.). Netdiag did not gave any error, no dns errors everything seems to be fine... After 5 min. i'm able to log on and start all services by hand without any problem. What to do / check ???? The first error recorded is the following: Event Type: Warning Event Source: LSASRV Event Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator) Event ID: 40960 Date: 23…

Really stopping Spoolsv.
by Guest Patrick- 2 replies

Lately we have had an issue with our 2k3 R2 file and print server. Users sometimes print something that cause the printer to hang. If I go into services and stop the printing spooler, it will show stopped. However the spoolsv.exe is still in memory. If I try to Kill that instance via kill and its PID, nothing happens the Service and PID stay in the processes tab. If I restart the printer service, a new spoolsv.exe instance with a new PID starts and the old one is still there as well. I cannot delete the offending spools files from the spool directory either, as the unkillable spoolsv.exe instance seems to have them locked. They only way I found to r…

Permissions to restart windows Service
by Guest Ken Beard- 0 replies

Here is my dilemma. I have a user to whom I do not want to give administration rights to a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise system. However, I need to give him permissions to stop, start, or restart a few, not all, services on the server. I found Subinacl which gives the permission but when the user attempts to see the service through MMC and Computer Management connecting to the server he gets "unable to open service control manager database on SERVERNAME." So I guess my question is, is there a way to allow a user to stop, start, and restart select services without having administrator role rights on the server? THANKS for all the help, -- Ken…

document ownership on Windows Server 2003
by Guest fec- 0 replies

We have a NAS with 2003 Server which has shared drive space on it. We also have other server which are not NAS with shared drive space. If we set both shares up identical with permissions we have a different result as far as document ownership. If we create a document as a user on the NAS (actually more than one NAS) in a share, the owner of the document is always the local administrator account. On the other servers it is the creator of the document which is what we want and has always been in the past. We need the creator of the document to be the owner. Any ideas why the local administrator account would always come up as the owner? I have …
