I am using Win2003 Std Ed with sp2. DAT72 Tape Drive is connected wiith the pc. I have taken some backup using NTBackup utility that consumes 4 tapes and checked the media lable was found for the backup job. After 15 days (yesterday) I wanted to restore some files from the backup and checked the media lable was not found. I thought somebody could have deleted the media lable. I inserted the first tape into the tape drive and added the media to the existing catalog. After that it shows the media as "offline". Web Page on \\Domain.local
by Guest Chris White- 0 replies

Hi All, Not sure if this is a DNS / DFS Question, I imagine its more of an IIS Question. Anyway, I have DFS running on our network. SBS2003 R1 PDC, and Server 2003 R2 File Servers hosting Namespaces etc. All working fine. The namespaces are as follows \\domain.local\companydocs \\domain.local\finance etc. However, when a user goes to the top level of the domain tree (\\domain.local), all they get is the SBS2003 Shared Folders and can't get back to the DFS tree. So, i've developed a web page to help users navigate to the correct parts of the DFS tree / file servers. Question: How can I make this web page appear when the user tries to g…

We are using an Internet Transaction Server (ITS) for Web Ordering. Our logic (SAP) builds a PDF file and gives it a URL src. However, it only freezes the screen. If I try to copy the url into a web browser I get the HTTP 404 message. We use ITS as a platform for this processing. I am by no means an expert in this area and am trying to help our Basis person search for an anwer? Any suggestions? Thank-You

WMI to remote machine
by Guest AndyS- 3 replies

Hi, I have 2 2003 servers, one local and is a member of a domain, the other is remote (in another country) and is only on a workgroup. I have some monitoring software which can use WMI to retrieve the windows log events. I can't get this to work so I have been trying to diagnose the problem. I have disabled firewalls at both ends, both machines have a public static ip address. I can run wbemtest on the remote machine ok and wmidiag, but when I run wbemtest on the loacl machine and try to connect to the remote machine it says "0x800706b9 Not enough resources are available to complete this operation" Strange when the resources are vast on both machines. I…

I have a shared internet drive (web drive) on a windows 2003 server enterprise edition server. I can open and save files on the server on a remote laptop connected to the internet... the drive is a shared web drive. However, if I edit the documetn, save it, and close it, the edits I made are gone! If I go in through remote desktop and open the document, the changes are all there. Is there something I'm missing? Port 80 is bound to the server, I have no problems accesing the web pages remotely, or saving data files onto the shared web drive using the same remote connection-- the only problems I have is when I open a doc, save it, and come back and open…

Hi With Windows 2003, i would like to know how verify how much processors are physically installed in a server. When you check that with Property on My computer, you don't see the real number of proc, same thing with MSinfo32, and it's the same with a srvinfo.exe command, you always see, the number of slots available for proc or see a fake information because it’s dual proc…who know how to check the true. Thanks JC

Windows 2000 DNS Cache Problem
by Guest swu30@hotmail.com- 0 replies

I've searched around it seems W2K Server has issues with its DNS cache. I have two W2K servers running AD + DNS/DHCP/WINS. They will occasionally stop resolving external DNS queries, this does not seem load related, but I could be wrong. They do not stop at the same time, and one server may stop more than the other. What stops is the ability to resolve internet names, even if they are in the cache. Resolving for internal resources continues to work fine while resolving for external names fails. The outage may last from a few seconds to a few minutes. While the outage is occuring, I can be right on the DNS server and do nslookups for something on the outside an…

Standard user can't install printer?
by Guest lldan- 0 replies

Hello Just recently we started having issues with installing printers from a Windows 2003 SP2 print server as a standard user logged into a Windows XP SP2 machine. We have servers all over with identical drivers, HP 4350 which work fine as a regular user, but for some reason this one server we get the following error message. A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator. We don't use the Point and Print GPO nor have we ever and all is working. If I install a printer as a regular user with the same driver and then try it on the troubled server all will be wo…

I know I can disable it across the board as an option but can I actually restrict compression to say the administrators group? Thanks

Monitor Shutdown progress?
by Guest Mario Schmidt- 3 replies

Hello group! Our servers (Windows 2003 SP1 and current patchlevel) take very long to shut down, most of the time there is almost no disk access so it looks like the machine just sits there and waits for something to happen (what doesn't). Is there any chance to monitor somehow, what exactly happens during a shutdown oder startup? I think about a little monitor window showing all running processes and services which updates instantly so you can see whats going on and what causes the machine to wait. The event log tells me nothing. I've also tried the checked build of winlogon.exe and enabled the logfile, but this also doesn't tell me which processe…

Confused About Folder Rights
by Guest Art Cabot- 5 replies

I had to move some folders from one 2003 server to another and now people can't write to them. The properties show "Read Only" on the folder, the AD Group has Modify rights and the same group has all rights to the share. They can write if they go to the share, but not if they have a drive mapped (via login script) directly to the folder. I've never been totally up-to-speed on Windows rights, but I'm really trying to understand this. Anybody have a clue for me? -- Art Cabot Director, Information Technology Sizemore, Inc.
