Cant install any software from a netwwork drive.

I have a windows server 2003 R3 SP2 domain setup with all workstations running the same OS and SP level. I cant install software on any of the workstations when mapped to a network drive. I am logged in as the domain admin and as such would think that I would be able to install software on the workstation. If I copy the files locally then I can perform the software install. Is there a new policy in winsvr2k3SP2 tha prevents running executables from a remote netwrok drive? Thanks

1010, 1016 & 1014 DHCP errors
by Guest Olivier- 2 replies

Dear All, Our DHCP server (WIN2K3 SP1) shows event ID 1010, 1016 & 1014 in the Event log. There is enough space on the C drive where the DHCP (& backup) database resides. I’ve also uncheck the ‘Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching’ option but this doesn’t solve the issue. I’ve found some articles for NT4 & 2000 server discussing similar issues but not for 2003. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Olivier

Shortcut - Properties->Find Target button
by Guest Ean Wilson- 6 replies

Running Server 2003 SP2. If I right-click on any shortcut on my system, go to properties, then click the Find Target button, nothing happens. All other functions work, it's only the Find Target button that seems "dead". I've tried every shortcut I could find (on the desktop, within folders, etc..). Might there be a simple registry key/value that got accidentally altered/deleted that would cause the Find Target button in a shortcut's property window to not function? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Intermittent Connection Errors
by Guest Mike Reagan- 1 reply

I am not sure if this is the correct newsgroup to post in. Recently (last 2 months or so) we started seeing errors in our web apps on our production web server. At first glance, they seem SQL Server like SQL Server connection errors with ASP.NET 2.0. Example of error: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.) A reboot seemed to fix the problem, but only for a while. Then the problem became more frequent. I thought it was .NET specific. But then I noticed some ASP 3 apps were having problems too, and was…

NTBackup set description switch
by Guest Bird Byte- 0 replies

I'm trying to set up an automated backup that uses (up to) a 5 tape rotation and fires daily. The idea is to do a weekly normal backup one day, and then differentials the next 4 days. Each week a different tape will be inserted. I'd like to configure the media so that no matter which tape is in the drive, the backup will find it and run (it's more important for us to ensure a daily backup than overwriting last week's data). Currently, all the tapes are named "Weekly", and each tape has a different description - Weekly 01, Weekly 02... I've added media using Removeable Storage Management and have had successful backups up until I introduced the Weekly; …

troubleshooting PERFMON counters
by Guest ScottW- 3 replies

Last week I posted a question about troubleshooting performance moinitor counters. Unfortunately it went unanswered. I've got more information and am hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction. I have a Windows 2003 Server that I am trying to run performance monitor against. This server is running Exchange 2003. Initially all of the Performance Monitor Counters and Objects would only display as numbers - these numbers meant absolutely nothiing to me and made collecting data impossible. Using MS KB article 152513 I was able to determine that the "Performance Registry Key" was missing the "009" subkey (don't know where it went - …

I am running a scheduled task that executes shutdown.exe and it works fine, except that when all is done, it gives the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer" instead of completely shutting off. This does not happen when I do a normal shutdown. I am using the /L and /Y parameters. Can someone help? Thanks. p.s. Windows 2000 Advanced Server running SP4. David

Remote Access to control services
by Guest George- 0 replies

Hi, Got a weird requirement I'm trying to implement. I have to give a couple of our developers access to the services.msc from their desktops so that they can stop a service to deploy new versions. I already have the GPO in place to restrict them from touching any service but the one they need. Now how do i allow them to connect remotely to services without giving them admin on the box?

Group Policy to set up wireless networks
by Guest buddd- 1 reply

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 Active directory network with Windows XP clients. Is it possible to deploy Wireless settings to clients (XP) so they can connect to our company Wireless Access Point? I would like to be able to send the SSIS and our 64 bit WEP key. If this can be done, how would one be able to do it? I went into the Wireless group policy, but I do not see a place where I can have the WEP key distributed. Thanks, Mark budman@generation.net
