How can I control jobs in a print queue?
by Guest dbouton@fuse.net- 0 replies

I have a color printer set up on a Win 2003 R2 print server. This is in a school and the printer is in the teachers room. All kids have the ability to print there and he does not want this. He wants to verify the print jobs and make sure they are legitimate before they actually print. Kids tend to print a lot of nonsense out wasting the toner. I do use Print Manager plus but this does not seem to have this feature. Any ideas how this can be done? I've tried to have him pause the printer which works for him but the students still send fine. Basically I'd like the jobs to go in a "hold" status until he releases them. Thanks for any advice on this. Dawn

Windows Server 2003 vs. Windows XP
by Guest Eddie- 7 replies

We have an odd situation with some of our single-threaded CPU-bound C++ programs. They run between 2 and 4 times faster on Windows XP than on Windows Server 2003 on the same Xeon hyperthreading dual processor machine (we borrowed one from our IT department, and have been alternating these two operating systems on it.) Even more odd, if we run a Virtual PC with Windows XP on top of the Windows 2003 Server on the same Xeon machine, this runs faster too. There is nothing else running on the machine during these tests, both operating systems show the expected 25% CPU usage. Next I tried running the programs on my Core 2 Duo with Windows XP, and comparin…

Where can i find pdh.dll (performance Data Helper) for Win 2K3 ser
by Guest Abhijeet M- 0 replies

I want a pdh.dll (or a perfmondata.dll) file that would work on a Windows Server 2003 platform. I need to access some performance counters of a custom application, which are listed under perfmon. They can be captured using the APIs provided by Performance Data Helper. I tried to work around with WMI classes, but it just seems too complicated. Also, is there any other way to do this? Thanks and regards

Help! Reinstalling Windows Server 2003 Enterprise from CD on new 320 GB disk using 80 GB partition. Get stopcd Page_Fault_In_NonPaged_Area 0x00000050 (0xA24960F4, 0x0, 0x80865DAB, 0x0). Had been previously installed on a 40 GB drive and then SP1 and SP2 subsequently applied and ran ok until other blue screens occurred. That's when I replaced the hard disk. BIOS had been updated some time ago without issue. Any ideas? Can contact me at mark@planosuperbowl.com. Thanks. -- Mark

Delegation to unlock account and reset passwords
by Guest Special Access- 2 replies

Hello again, I just got asked this question: They want to make a global group have the right to change passwords and unlock accounts for the members of a specific global group. I don't think this can be done unless you want to move the members of that group into a single OU and grant the necessary rights to the admins on that OU. I did some searching today on the MS site and found a couple KB articles that seem to confirm my thoughts, but I wanted to see if some ingenous person has found a way to do it. Thanks! Mike

After experiencing a power surge/outage a while back, my Server 2003 system now shuts down very slowly. The screen clears, the Explorer shell appears to unload, but then it does a kind of chkdsk thing - the disk grinds solid for over a minute. Then it does the full shutdown. Any ideas? Thanks

This error comes from the system log of a 2003 Standard server (SP1): The source is NetBT The name "DOMAIN :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 192.168.1.22. The machine with the IP address 192.168.1.20 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. When I check out the link all I see is to check network connections I can ping the DNS server which is also the DHCP server and PDC. This server runs BES and Rightfax, it is configured as a file server and application server. Do any of you gurus have other ideas how to res…
