by Guest Ron- 3 replies

I have a Windows 2003 enterprise server SP2 that for some reason does not show up on the list under the Microsoft Windows Network. I have to to disable the NIC and re-enable it then after several minutes it show up for awhile and then it disappears again. This is our main print server and shared directory/folder server for the entire network. There have been no reported printing issues or problems with users gaining access to their network folders/files from their mapped directories it's only bothersome when I have to manually locate the server through network neighborhood on XP. All DNS and WINS configuration looks fine, I have no trouble pinging it's n…

We have 4 DCs all have DNS installed, 3 in one site, one in another. The 4th (in the remote site) when i set itself as the DNS it can not resolve internet hostnames. It will only work if I set up that server to forward requests to one of the other DCs, then it's fine. I notice in the debug log: 20071011 11:20:37 674 PACKET UDP Snd 193.0.14.129 002c Q [0000 NOERROR] (3)www(3)cnn(3)com(0) 20071011 11:20:37 674 PACKET UDP Snd 192.112.36.4 002c Q [0000 NOERROR] (3)www(3)cnn(3)com(0) 20071011 11:20:41 674 PACKET UDP Snd 127.0.0.1 9862 R Q [8281 DR SERVFAIL] (3)www(3)cnn(3)com(0) 20071011 11:21:19 A2C PACK…

I have a Windows 2003 server running a third party application that uses Oracle database. This application requires authentication to use - authenticates within app itself not through AD accounts. Currently only people within the company access the application. However, shortly we will open it up via web site to our business partners and clients. They will also require authentication through the application. My question is will I need to purchase addtional Windows CALs in order for our partners and clients to use this application? Thanks

Gigabit Throughput on a windows 2003
by Guest Sabo, Eric- 3 replies

We are connecting to a 1 GB ports, the highest throughput I am seeing using a 32 K TCP Windows Size (32,768) using Iperf to test is about 530 MBytes per second. Is this good or should it be more than that. I know that ethernet you cannot use 100% on it. We are using broadcom gigabit adapters with Cat 6 (HP and Dell) using a Cisco 6513 switch/router. Does any have an suggestion to any registry settings that might help throughput? On our backups across our network, (1 GB port and same vlans) the average we are seeing is the following: 740 MB/Min Any thoughts? Thanks, Eric Sabo

mms links not working - have to use rstp?
by Guest mp3nomad- 0 replies

Not sure if this is the right place to submit this question but here goes... We have windows server 2003 web servers configured with windows media services and it seems that the links mms:// no longer work when linking streaming media files from the server. rstp:// works but not mms://. We have WMP 11 and IE 7 on our Win XP client computers. mms:// links used to work in the past but now they don't any longer. I'm being told by others in the office that another client is using mms:// links to streaming media files and they are working for them. How can I get mms:// links to work from a Windows Server 2003 web server system? Is that possible? Thanks…

Remove CA certificates from a Certification authority
by Guest vbchewie- 0 replies

Is there a way to remove CA certificates from a Certificate authority? It looks like the person before me was having real trouble setting up the Root Certificate Authority. If I go into the Certification Authority (Local) ->Properties -> General tab. I see this Certificate #0 Certificate #1 Certificate #2 Certificate #3 Certificate #4 If I view the certificates it looks like #0 will expire in 2029 and #1-#4 will all expire on the same date in 2031. When I go into the certificate snap-in under trusted root certification authorities it see all of these certificates with the same Cert Auth. Do I really need all these Certificates? How do I rem…
