Mapped Drives in the Internet Zone
by Guest Iain- 0 replies

As per KB929728. We are having this issue with Windows Server 2003 SP1, including ie7. One of our applications uses compiled HTML help files on a remote server with a mapped drive. The application cannot be changed, this is not an option. I have used the registry to allow remote access to help files for the local Intranet Zone. This can be tested using a UNC path, and works successfully. When using the mapped drive in the same fashion the application would, it fails. I have tried using Internet Explorer and pasting the mapped drive path in to the address bar. Internet Explorer stays in the Internet Zone. I have spoken to Microsoft and they h…

Is there an EFS specialist in the house?
by Guest r. wales- 2 replies

I have been having problems with efs. While trying to sort it out, I deleted the administrator cert from the default domain policy. I have since tried to restore the ddp using dcgpofix. It errored with the message that it could not read EFS certificates from registry.pol. I am also getting application errors every five minutes telling me that the registry.pol file for the ddp in "invalid" (error id 1096, source userenv). See the Window Group Policy message board - "unable to view / edit default group policy" from 03-Oct-07 for the whole gruesome tale.

Our next Server
by Guest John F Kappler- 6 replies

We currently are running a Windows SBServer 2003 system which is domain controller, runs Exchange, and also a couple of SQL applications. We did ask this question on the SBS group, but got no replies presumably because it goes beyond SBS! We have 10 local users, plus 5 or so remote (accessing our Intranet or using OWA) We now have a need to allow five or so remote users to run as clients on one of our SQL applications (for data entry). We assume this would best be done by Terminal Services. We're told that SBS does not allow this form of access, and our best solution is to add another box running Windows Server 2003 just for the remote users to access. …

Is it possible to exclude the folder My Documents from the profile, i don't want this folder to be copied to the server. I'm using profiles and now the server disk is almost full.. I'm also using GPO's and have 300 users, so if it could be possible to exclude My Documets folder from the server side through GPO's or something it would be great...

Batch ntbackup to external hard drives (new version - October 2007)
by Guest dderkits- 1 reply

Below is a new version of the backup script that I posted to USENET on 5 July 2005 (initial version) and 9 Sept 2006 (revised version). This new version can also be found at: http://www.derkits.com/apps/serverbackup.txt (be sure to change the file attribute to .cmd before using it) The version below may be affected by line wrapping. So, it is probably best to download the script from the above URI. The main improvements are: - Inserted code after the backup operations and before the robocopy operation to parse the ntbackup logs for certain error messages that will indicate a problem even if ntbackup returns a "success" errorlevel. - Under Exchange backup s…

Accessing Shares across the Network from an ASP page
by Guest RDK- 2 replies

Folks.....I have four Windows 2000 server boxes which as far as I can tell are identical. All are in the same Win2K Domain/Active Directory. All are full patched via Microsoft Update. One of these four servers is also a web server (call it Server A). I have created an ASP web page which via the "FileSystemObject" and "GetFolder" I am attempting to open a folder on each of the four servers. It works on ServerA and ServerB, but fails with a "Error Number is 76 / Path not found" error on the other two (Server C and Server D). The web server is running with the default Anonomous User Id. All four servers have identical Security Policies and the "Shari…

Hello. I am looking for a utility to monitor memory usage over time. Particularly a tool which might be able to show fragmentation. Free is best. My server will begin to slow over time and at about 30 days without reboots, it will become very laggy even though Task Manager reports no particular memory hogs or CPU hogs. Windows 2003 Server Std SP2 with 100 GB RAID 5 OS and data drive 2x3.2 Xeon CPU 2GB ECC memory AD Controller Exchange Server 2003 Ent SP2 Thanks in advance. mIke

Hello to everybody, Please help me to clear something that confuses me. In this article http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/042e7616-4b5d-4c4f-afb7-59fdb89b218a1033.mspx?mfr=true in bottom lines MS writes that : "You can only restore the System State data on a local computer. You cannot restore the System State data on a remote computer " Ok,with that...but in case that we want to restore the System State after a format of the local computer ,what happens? Can we restore the System State successfully ? Because the SysState backup contains computer-specific information ,what about the original SID of the local computer? …

I just setup RRAS to allow PPTP VPN connections and the clients connect fine and can ping and DNS resolve the RRAS server but no other server or resource in the network. Do I need to add a static route? All the clients are receiving a 169. IP address too. Thanks, Luke

Extremely slow windows install - up to a week so far....
by Guest fuzzy- 4 replies

I'm trying to install Windows server 2000 (also tried with 2003) and it seems to hang at the "Windows is starting setup) screen. The server was left on this screen, however a week later, it had progressed to the black screen with the white status bar at the bottom, with the text "please wait". At this rate I might have it installed by Christmas! Any ideas ? Its a Compaq ML570.
