Now I know that the partitioning side of things is correct but am i ok with both of them being on 1 raid disk, should i actually be using 2x seperate raid 1 disk arrays for each partition? -- Martin Newbie

Port Forwarding Question
by Guest Rachiano- 1 reply

Hi, I have a general question about port forwarding: Let's assume I have the following scenario: I have a router (Hardware router) with 2 interfaces. One interface connected to the internet and the other interface connected to my LAN. I set up port forwarding for http traffic(Port 80) to a specific IP address in my LAN. The server to which the traffic is forwarded hosts a website which runs on IIS. When a client from the internet enters the url bound to the address of the external interface of my router the traffic will be passed to the webserver. Now I have set up the website to log all traffic in IIS. For all connections an event will be written to the l…

Hello, I have a question on how I should set up my Raid scheme for a new web server. I have a Perc 5/e raid controller, and (8) 73 GB sas hard drives. I was thinking that I could do a raid 5 with 7 disks and use one as the hot spare. My needs are to have 4 partitions. 120 gb - OS, 120 - websites, 100- ftp, 100 - misc data. Can I include the active partition in the raid 5, I have read no, I think. Any ideas would be great.

Is there a specific group for the Data Protection Manager DPM 2007 product? I'd like to hear experiences if this has been a good replacement for traditional agent-based backup software such as Arcserve and Backup Exec.

Re: Print Spooler I have the same problem - after I ran the latest automatic update it keeps stopping repeatedly. I setup the bat file below to run every hour as a scheduled task just to keep it running so no one would need to intervene. File locking help
by Guest brentb- 2 replies

I have an interesting issue that hopefully someone can provide some insight to. I have 2 shares on a 2003 server (share1 and share2). Share2 sits within the directory structure of share1. If a user maps directly to share2, it's as if file locking is disabled. All office files within this tree are able to be edited by multiple users simultaneously. However if the users map to share1 and browse to the folder that is shared as share2 the files are locked as they should be. What is more interesting is if a user mapped to share2 opens a file, it is locked to another user mapped to share2, however a user mapped to share1 is able to edit the same document. The cl…

I am working on setting up a server for my home / home office. I have the basic functions working, but i having some problems getting some of the finer details worked out. I was wondering if you know of any companies that offer cheap support services to help me get started. I used to use platinum server management for my linux web server, and it was 30 dollars per month for unlimited help tickets. something like that is what i am looking for. any suggestions?

NT broadcast command from older software
by Guest edocnekorb@aol.com- 2 replies

I have a situation where some servers have been updated to Windows Server 2003, but are running software designed for Windows NT server. It is UPS monitoring software that has been obsolete for some time now. Although the monitoring behavior of the application seems to run fine, it has the ability to send an NT broadcast during certain events. I was wondering if I am expecting too much that an NT-oriented broadcast will work on a 2003 domain. Thanks, Ed.

KeyUpdateTool for Windows 2003?
by Guest DaveB- 0 replies

Is there a version of the KeyUpdateTool (http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PKUInstructions.aspx) that will work on Windows 2003 Server? This article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874) says that it applies to Windows 2003, but I'm not clear on how. We have some W2K3 servers that we are virtualizing, but since they were installed with the OEM product key, the new virtual machine asks for product activation when the hardware changes. We have a volume license that we can use, but we need to be able to change the key somehow without being too disruptive. Any ideas? Dave

We have Windows XP environment with Office XP / SP3 (MUI : German), we do not have any problem with this particular configuration but if we install Microsoft Visio on top of this configuration then we notice the problem. Actually we have a file MSSP3GEP.LEX 2,614,054 bytes which is replaced by Microsoft Visio to MSSP3GEP.LEX 2,488,954 Bytes and then we started having the problem with our Proofing tools. if we re-install the hotfix which we already have on the system to replace the file again with a newer version the problem resolves http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923347/en-us • Do you know this described behavior? • Exist any Patches for this probl…
