We have a standard windows 2003 (SP1) server with exchange 2003 (SP2) installed. It is running some software called Neverfail which basically replicated this server to another one thus providing fault tollarance. We have received an error in the system log which i have never seen before and searching the internet hasn't brought up anything. Source: HookRegistryDriver Event ID: 10 Computer: Local Description: ObQueryNameString failed with status - - 1073741444 It has never occured before except for this once last night. Is this something I should be worried about?

Scheduled task, ran interactively ?
by Guest andyjgw- 0 replies

Hi Here's what I'm trying to do: Create a scheduled task that will be installed via group policy as a computer startup script, that will run at a certain time a day and interact with the currently logged on user. The task creation and such works fine, but I'm stuck in that the task runs with local SYSTEM privileges and thus the user never sees the interface (actually, an HTA html application pop up). I've tried messing around with /U and /RU switches with "schtasks / create" to no avail. If I specify the user, then it prompts for that user's password - and the problem with that anyway is that if User A puts in their password, but User B happens to be th…

SBS2003 very slow client logon and no GPO inheritence
by Guest Oliver Maynard- 2 replies

I am having a nightmare of a time with a new SBS 2003 installation. Users take an eternity to log on and when they do no settings from the gpo associated to them are applied. I have a very simple policy applied that runs a bat file containing 3 'net use' commands to map drives. Nothing else has been changed. Once logged on I can access the server without any problems. I have a server 2003 installation that ruins with no problems at all...SBS seems to be slightly different but I have been working on this for hours now to no avail so any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Hello, my WINS/DHCP/DNS/File server is running Windows 2003 R2 X64 SP2 plus all patches. I keep getting this in my event viewer - not sure what to do. We only have on lan segment 10.10.10.x 255.255.255.0. MRxSmb event ID 8003 The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer AYZ-CONF3FB that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{37A96983-F545-44C9-B933-A213316A3500}. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

Slow XP logon times
by Guest Aaron- 6 replies

Had a Windows 2000 AD domain with 2000 pro clients using roaming profiles. Insalled a few XP machines and they are taking up to four minutes to logon to the network using roaming profiles. Installed a new 2003R2 server and moved FSMO roles. Still kept the 2000 server as a domain controller with the 2003 server. I can logon with no wait at all on the XP machines if not logging in as a roamin profile user. Only when logging in with credential of roaming user does the XP logon times take so long. DNS is pointing to the new server first and the profiles are kept on the new servers. What could be taking the XP pcs so long to long in compared to the quick…

Block Level drive copy
by Guest freedom rock- 2 replies

Is there a utility that works with Windows 2003 that would allow me to do a block level copy of a disk from one server to another? I have to replace a server, and the data drive has millions of small files on it. It takes 14+ hours to copy the data using ROBOCOPY and it's only a 64 gig volume. Thanks Dan H Canton, MA

RSHSVC question
by Guest freedom rock- 0 replies

I'm trying to get rshsvc from the Windows 2000 resource kit to work on Win 2K3, but I'm running into problems. When I try to send a remote command from one host to another I get a "Access Denied" message. The instructions are a bit sparse, and I have tried with a hosts.equiv, and a rhosts file that I've tried in several folders with no success. Does anyone know where the files should be located? Can I use IP addresses in the files instead of domain names? Thanks Dan H Canton, MA

Windows 2003 server SP2. Just found Help and support is not there. Got the message "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service named 'Help and Support'" I found the microsoft KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937055 and followed the instructions but on the second command I got this "C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries>HSCUpd.exe -i HSCmui.cab Error (hr = 8007041d): The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Also the third command line refers to hscsp_e3.cab where the file I have is hscsp_s3.cab. I am not an expert. The sy…

Date changes too late - at 00:10:00
by Guest Beebob- 0 replies

On a 2003 server running MS-SQL the internal clock changes the date 10 minutes past midnight. The time is running correct, but from 00:00:00 to 00:10:00 the date is "yesterday". The server is part of a NT4-domain, and the "Windows Time" service is running. On some of the other servers and PC's in the network we're running the K9nt time service, but not on this particular server. Other servers - independent of the K9nt service - is changing the date correct. Any suggestions ? Jorgen Beck-Bang IT Administrator

recommend ftp host?
by Guest Neil Jarman- 1 reply

Hi, Can anyone recommend a host with large storage which allows me to backup systems via ftp? I have tried with 2 companies so far (ixhosting and siteground) both offer large spaces (300 & 500 Gb resp) but the former demands all files be linked to web (?) and the latter restricts storage of many filetypes to 5Gb so both are absolutely NO USE whatever for backup. Can't afford to rent a dedicated server - this has been suggested already! Cheers, NEIL:

How to logon when local server is unavailable?
by Guest chris.wilkins10@virgin.net- 1 reply

Hi All, I'm setting up a Domain controller and file server for our three branch offices connected by a VPN. Each office will have one of each in each office. Number of users in the office are 35, 22 and 6. The aim is to have a pair of servers (DC and File server) in each office to act as backup for the others if a local DC becomes unavailable. There is one domain ie. 'mydomainname.local'. I was planning to place the DNS server on the same PC as the DC. My question is. If one of the office the Domain controller (with DNS server installed) fails. What is the best set up to allow users in that office to still logon to one of the two remaining DC's in the other …

I am new to our Applications team at work and I have struck a strange issue on one of the servers holding the application I look after. The problem is...when I try to create a new SQL ODBC connection or try to configure a SQL ODBC connection, the whole box terminates itself. It just disappears. I have tried re-installing the windows service pack 1 which didn't resolve the issue. I have also tried re-installing the MDAC on this box which made no difference. I have a test version of the server running same OS and Service Pack and has the same applications installed onto it. This test box works fine. I have tried copying over the SQLSRV32.DLL file from the t…

Server 2K3 on a laptop...in Virtual PC
by Guest Wm.Holden- 2 replies

Here's my situation: I'm a college student taking courses on Server 2003. The only machine I have to put it on is my Gateway MX6453 laptop, which is running Vista Business. I have Virtual PC 2007 and have Server 2003 Enterprise Edition running on a Virtual machine allocated with 25 GB of disk space and 1 GB of memory. Problem: Drivers, drivers, drivers. Question: Which ones do I use? All I can find are the XP drivers for my equipment. Are these compatible with Server 2003, are the drivers based on the same principles like Windows 2000 and XP? Thanks for reading this...any replies will be appreciated.
