If this is the wrong forum, please let me know what the correct one is. We have a new server that we have installed Windows2008 with IIS7 and we have everything working fine except the SMTP server will not send mail. We need this because 2 of our ASP.NET apps email to people who request it. We're making no progress - any suggestions on what to check or how to track down the problem? One note, our company mail server (Exchange) is on a totally different server. thanks - dave david@at-at-at@windward.dot.dot.net Windward Reports -- http://www.WindwardReports.com me -- http://dave.thielen.com Cubicle Wars - http://www.windwardreports.com/film.htm

Hi! All, I have Windows Server 2003 R2 installed on a 300 gb HDD which has been mirrored. The server has 2 partitions C Drive is 50gb and D drive is 250 gb. Now I am running out of disk space on theC drive and would like to use the partition magic to shrink D Drive and extend the C Drive. I would like to know if this is possible using partition magic. I hope it will not cause any problems to the RAID? Appreciate any help and advice. Thank you Regards Harry

Hello, We want to test a new database application on our LAN using a Win2003 server. The idea is to simulate normal use, and then heavier-than-normal use and (if possible) to get a report of what happened during the to see if the machine can manage the load increase. Are there any tools on a Win 2003 server to get such an report? Are there any freeware tools, which allow such monitoring? Thanks in advance Roger T.

Gurus, If I disable the POSIX subsystem on my Windows Server 2003 computer, will I increase my system performance, even by a miniscule amount? I do not currently use nor do any applications that I have in my environment use the POSIX subsystem. -- Spin

System Failure: Stop error Reason Code: 0x805000f

I have a windows small business sever 2003 service pack 2 that is rebooting almost daily. It reboots around 5-6am almost every morning. There is no backups or scheduled tasks running at this time or user activity. The server would be at its least active time. The UPS logs show nothing strange but the problem has only been occuring the last month or so. All that is recorded in the event viewer is: Event ID: 1076 The reason supplied by user DOMAIN\Administrator for the last unexpected shutdown of this computer is: System Failure: Stop error Reason Code: 0x805000f Bug ID: Bugcheck String: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000…

Windows 2008 - is the 32 bit OS a fully supported and endorsed product or should I avoid it ?

Windows 2008 - is the 32 bit OS a fully supported and endorsed product or should I avoid it ? Hi, I have just been told that Windows 2008 is really only available as a 64bit product and not to use the 32bit version. Apparently MS have only produced the 32bit version for transition reasons and don't recommend using this version. I know this was the case with Exchange 2007, but am suprised to hear this about Windows Server 2008? Is this a case of mis-information and is the 32bit version just as solid/endorsed/supported as the 64bit version or should I avoid the 32bit version at all costs? Thanks for any input in advance. Zaz (PS. I know 64bit is the bett…

Migrate Creation Date only attribute
by Guest jimmy stelle- 0 replies

I have a problem. I migrated a large number of files and did not set the preserve timestamp setting in the utility I used and now, after a couple of weeks in production, we have an application problem. Is there a CLI utility where I can copy just the creation date from a source file to a destination file without changing any other atribute, or the data it self? We still have the source data intact. I know I can use Robocopy to copy the timestamp, but we want to preseve the new destination 'modify date', and only change the creation date. Thanks,

missing renamed network attached printer on print server
by Guest geekzmom- 1 reply

On a Windows Server 2003 print server i renamed a printer and it's share name. After i renamed the printer the name did not change and there was an error message that said "Printer not found on server, unable to connect” and there was no sign of the new printer name. On a XP machine i went to add a printer wizard and found the printer with the new name in the list of printers on our print server and was able to add it and print to it. What is really strange is that the new printer name or associated port does not show up in printer and faxes on our print server. I was able to delete the old printer with the error message on the print server and am still…

BEST PRACTICES: Simple File Server
by Guest Brian McGrew- 2 replies

I'm not even sure what group to put this in so I'll start in general and if it belongs somewhere else, just say so! So I have this IBM x3650 here that's running Win2K8 Datacenter Edition. I need to make a very simple server out of it that has the following requirments, in order of priority. 1) Share files via NFS to a small group of Unix (Fedora Core 5) clients on a private subnet. 2) Be viable and accessible by Corporate IT as a Windows machine with standard shares. 3) All file level transactions (read/modify/write) must be logged and fully auditable. 4) Be able to be backed up via TSM or Backup Exec. This server has two network cards in it, …

Separator Pages
by Guest Kate- 0 replies

Thank you for your response. The users are part of a domain. I tried the following, but it did not resolve the issue. I deleted the printers from the computer. I made the user an administrator. I then reinstalled the printers. I tested the separator page, but it still displayed "Administrator", not the user's name. Do you know how I can fix this issue? Are the user part of a domain? If they entered the credentials for Administrator when making the printer connections, the jobs hit the server with the same security ID -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?a…

Additional DC in different subnet
by Guest news.optonline.com- 5 replies

I'm installing a new DC in SUBNET2 that will act as a secondary domain controller for our DC in SUBNET1. Are there any special concerns being that the 2 DC's are supporting the same domain but on different subnets, connected via a VPN? Do I need to do anything to make sure the servers in SUBNET2 know to use the new DC in their subnet ? Thanks Nick

Windows Server 2008 Task Manager Problem
by Guest Gary Bouchard- 2 replies

I don't know if I'm in the right group or not, as I cannot locate a specific Server 2008 category. Many times, when I attempt to bring up the task manager I am running into a problem. I can right click the task-bar and select task manager from the context menu or hit CTRL-shift-ESC, or CTRL-alt-Del and select task manger, or start it from the run line, but the result is always the same... task manger starts minimized in the task notification area, and when I right click to restore or close it, the context menu appears, but task manager never comes to the foreground. If I mouse over the task manager Icon on the task-bar, it shows a gauge that is j…
