Access Is Denied - HELP!
by Guest Dave Durand- 3 replies

Scenario... Two forests, one domain (parent only) in each forest. User accounts are in DOMAIN1 and I have some disk shares in DOMAIN2 that I'd like to grant access to. First off there is a trust between both domains. The trust isn't transitive but I'm assuming that is because neither domain has any child domains....please correct if I'm wrong. Each side of the trust is configured with Domain-wide authentication. To grant the permissions, I created a universal group on DOMAIN1 and put my users in the group. On DOMAIN2 I created a domain local group and put the universal group from DOMAIN1 into the previously created domain local group on DOMAIN…

Quota Manager - "Account Unavailable"
by Guest lforbes- 0 replies
Well I am usually pretty good about deleting the files before I delete the user. However, I now have a collection of Quotas with "account information unavailable" because I have deleted the user. I do click "delete" but often it takes about 4 min to view the files which is a bit ridiculous. I can't just take control of the upper folder because it contains all my users. I also have it showing 1kb when there is "nothing" in the Quota File/Folder list to delete? I am thinking of doing an xcacls run to see what folders don't have users. Does anyone else have any other suggestions to get rid of these quotas? Thanks Lara

How to logon when local server is unavailable?
by Guest chris.wilkins10@virgin.net- 0 replies

Hi All, I'm setting up a Domain controller and file server for our three branch offices connected by a VPN. Each office will have one of each in each office. Number of users in the office are 35, 22 and 6. The aim is to have a pair of servers (DC and File server) in each office to act as backup for the others if a local DC becomes unavailable. There is one domain ie. 'mydomainname.local'. I was planning to place the DNS server on the same PC as the DC. My question is. If one of the office the Domain controller (with DNS server installed) fails. What is the best set up to allow users in that office to still logon to one of the two remaining DC's in the other …

Windows 2003 R2 Server Searching
by Guest Chad Guiney- 0 replies
I have noticed a problem when I use the search tool in Windows Server 2003 R2. I was going through the server searching for all *.jpg files and when I did it pretty much took the server down to a crawl and I had users calling me one after the other asking why the server was so slow. What is going on when I am doing the searching? I have checked the indexing service in administrative tools and it is turned off and I have the option to not use indexing in the search options. Where else could the problem be?? Thanks in advance.

I’m currently in the process of testing a Disaster Recovery Plan. The plan consists of total loss of hardware, and restoring recent backups to different hardware. I have a server setup with similar volume info and the same version and release of server 2003 std. sp1. I receive the following error message while running NT Backup(Restore Wizard), The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used. I’m trying to restore a backup from the Hypothetically (lost server) to the new (New Hardware) Server. I’ve run the backup on the current server and tried to restore to the new server, but keep getting the same error message. Can anyone point me…

terminal server session director
by Guest Phill- 0 replies

We have two terminal servers network load balanced with session director configured. The idea with session director is that if a user logs on and then disconnects then when he next connects the user will be directed to his disconnected session. We have an issue in that it does not work all the time. Not sure if it's linked to the subnet that the user connects from. There is nothing mentioned about this but from observing what happens plus the users connect in the office and then from remote sites, it maybe a factor. Has anyone else used it and had similar issues and perhaps fixed it. I have been through all the articles I can find on TechNet plus the whi…

getting an updated resource kit tool
by Guest Scott Klassen- 0 replies

I was directed to a new version of the acctinfo.dll ADUC addon, with increased functionality, by an MVP. He said to get it from a TAM. Only problem is that we're a mid-sized business without an enterprise contract, so no TAM. I called PSS and was forwarded to a rep in India who didn't have a clue what I was talking about and wanted to charge me for a support call to look into it. Anyone have a better idea where I can get the updated tool version? acctinfo2.dll Version: 1.0.0.1125 Date: 21/08/2007 File size: 335,872 bytes

recommendations for newbie Win2003 server admin
by Guest Steve- 0 replies

I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a good book or web site. Am looking for a foundation of understanding Windows 2003 Server user groups. I have recently set up a Win2003 file server as part of a corporate domain with domain users. The domain is controlled elsewhere. All domain users currently have read and write access to a shared directory. I would like to set up a group of domain users that have read/write access and restrict all other domain users to just read access. I need to be able to understand how to do this as well as how Active Directory works. Any pointers would be really appreciated. Thanks...
