Server 2003 Unresponsive with SQL Backup
by Guest Neaz A.- 2 replies

Hello all, first time posting. I'm trying to find some pointers and ideas as to how to troubleshoot a problem that cropped up in the last 24hours. We have a dedicated SQL 2005 server on a Dell 2950 (4gb ram) on 2k3 Server. Everything has been running smoothly except yesterday when the server just became unresponsive and wouldn't allow RDC or VNC connections. System Manager connection also locked up. Pinging worked fine but the database stopped responding to our in-house application. We have a Symantec backup server which backs up the database every hour, and also has Continuous Backup running. In Event Viewer, I don't see anything major, only the …

Adding 2003 Server to domain - first steps
by Guest JPCLYONS- 4 replies

I have a domain where I need to do the following. I am proceeding cautiously since I ma not an MCSE - just an MCP. The server is on the network, but not yet added to the domain. Eventually, it will replace an old server, but not for now. It will be a DC, as well as File Server and DNS. The first step is needed so that I can use tape backup to restore files to the new server in preparation for it to replace the old server. I am concerned that just adding the server to the domain will cause some issues, like the new server acting as the DC, or as DHCP, etc. Unless I run the role wizard and specify what roles the server will have, no services are …

PC not showing up in Network Neighborhood
by Guest G- 1 reply

We have about thirty tablet PCs that connect both via WiFi and Ethernet when docked. One of three identical tablets does not show up in Explorer in our domain under Microsoft Windows Network. Nor does it show up in the net view listing. If I enter \\computername in the address bar, it does appear in Explorer's left hand pane, but with its description, not just its computername. If I then navigate up one level so that the listing is in the right hand pane, this computername does not appear. I've rejoined this computer to our domain, to no effect. One IP address shows up in DNS, and both show up in DHCP and WINS, which seems odd, and I suspect may be where …

Hello, I see a lot of issues in my event viewer all seem to be related to SQL errors. There have been a lot of hands touching this server and I see software installed on it that I didn't install but that may not be related. I don't see the items listed under program files - e.g. Microsoft SQL Server 2005. I see the SQL manager running in the bottom right hand but there is no SQL database that it is attached to, it wants me to select one. I can't list the server that it is on in the drop down. I'm not sure what to do. Here is the issue in the event viewer - Source VSS Event ID 6013 Sqllib error: OLEDB Error encountered calling IDBInitia…

Hi... Noticed today that Ive forgotten to Service pack our Domain Controller. ITs still on 2003 Server without ever having even SP1 applied. Do you think its ok to go straight to SP2 or would it be better to install SP1 first and if everything is ok with that then install SP2 ? Thanks for any responses.

by Guest fergusean- 0 replies

Hello, I'm trying to get Windows Media Services 9 Series up and running on a Virtual Dedicated Server running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2, virtualized by SWsoft. I've installed WMS on the base configuration, and all appears to go well... until I go to configure it. I can launch the MMC snap-in, but as soon as I click on the server name, I get "Microsoft Management Console has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The error signature is: AppName: mmc.exe AppVer: 5.2.3790.3959 ModName: msvcrt.dll ModVer: 7.0.3790.3959 Offset: 00038fa7 The snap-in version (WMSAdmin.dll) is 9.0.0.3372. An…

Change Date Format
by Guest JT- 2 replies
I know about changing the date format in the Regional Settings control panel option. What I am wondering though is whether or not there is a utility that will allow the change of the date format to be changed to something like September/7/2007 as opposed to 09/7/2007 when being displayed in windows explorer and using details. I would like to be able to use the full or short prefix of the month instead of its number. Has anyone been able to accomplish something like this? I understand of course its not supported but I would like to be able to utilize something like this for some of our file servers.

Windows 2000 Print Server - Not Showing New Printer In Directory
by Guest cbtg2006- 0 replies
Hi Guys, We have a 2 Node Win 2K Advanced Server Cluster (MSCS) running a host of functions including a Print Server. I'm having an issue where all new printers I add are not being added to the Active Directory Printer List despite the fact they are configured to be listed in the directory. The printer is shared because it is viewable in Windows Explorer on browsing to the print server via '\\serevrname' I have re-created the printer and port. I have also stopped and restarted the print spool service (and in fact the server itself) Any ideas as to why this is not showing? Thanks in advance.

drawing to the minimized remote desktop window
by Guest viv- 0 replies

Hi, I need pies of advice about drawing to the minimized remote desktop window. If application run on the remote box (Win 2003) and try to capture screen through the ::BitBlt(...) method it reports non-zero return code and 'GetLastError' returns 5 (Access denied). So I have 2 questions: 1) where I can find documents about remote desktop implementation details; 2) how I can check that current context is OK to draw/capture something (C++) Note this code works well if the remote desktop window is opened. Thanks in advance, Vladimir

Hi, We want load balancing from a server with a dual NIC to a switch with port trunking enabled. The first NIC port has IP 192.168.33.10, GW 192.168.33.1 and DNS + WINS 192.168.33.10. Which IP properties do you assign to the second port? Which other issues need to be taken into consideration when enabling loadbalancing..? jake

Adding an XP PC to Server 2003
by Guest gloriousglenn@hotmail.com- 5 replies

Hi, I am trying to hook up a WinXP PC to my Server running Server 2003 but for some reason I cannot get it to access the server. I am trying to connect by going through System Properties - Computer Name - Network ID but for some reason it is not recognising the network. Apart from the cables not being attached (which they are!) what else could I be doing wrong for the network not being recognised? The error response is: The domain name "domian-name.com" might be a NetBIOS domain name. if this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS. No DNS servers configured for local system.2 (error code 0x0000267C DNS_ERROR_NO_DNS…
