Shutdown and Startup of Multiple Servers?
by Guest ICT User- 3 replies

Occassionaly I have to shutdown around 40-50 servers then start them back up later in the day. I have found a program (remoteshutdown) that will shutdown multiple servers but im not sure how good it will be in our environment. A couple of questions - what is everyone else using and is there any software out there that could start servers in a sequence - for example could it start our domain controllers first then other servers after - im assuming it would need to be wake on lan software with some sort of checking script? I image large organisations must have something like this though i suspect they have greater redundancy/ups/generators than we currently have…

FAX Printer codes
by Guest Frank Jacobs- 0 replies

Hi, Does anyone have any idea how to make the Ms Fax work with printer codes? Explanation: We have a CRM package with Crystal Reports generating reports that can automaticly be printed trough the fax. Currently we are using zetafax, but the "ZETAFAXSPL" does not work with Term. Server. Ms Fax does. With zetafax you start the document with a couple of codes (ex. @@[sendto : 021234412). Does Ms FAX server offer such a thing ? Where can we find the right codes for that ? Situation: - Ms Win Server 2003 AD SP1 - Ms Win Server 2003 DB server - Ms Win Server 2003 RC2 TS.

(This was also posted on the server clustering group) I'm trying to find out some information about using CHKDSK on a clustered drive. We have a two node cluster (active/passive) running Windows 2003 R2 enterprise 32 bit with SP1. The cluster has three shared drives located on an EMC CX700 SAN. The three drives are a 500MB for the quorum, and two data drives 1.5TB (drive "E") and 2.4TB (drive "W"). Drive E is a basic disk, the 2.4TB drive W is a GPT disk. They're both about 70% full The E drive has been active for about a year, the W: one was added around June. Yesterday the active node became sluggish and then stopped serving data. It still res…

2003 Print Server - Print To File
by Guest TEK- 1 reply
I have a windows 2003 server that I would like to use as a print server. I want to "print to file" but do NOT want to have to choose a filename EACH TIME. I have a script that moves the file FROM the server to another location to be printed from a unix system but I need to NOT have users have to provide a filename when connecting. I'd like it to be a default filename. NOBODY ANYWHERE has any idea, even Microsoft Consultants working with us.

Named Streams
by Guest Rob- 4 replies

I just installed EMC's DiskExtender this weekend adn am getting many files that have named streams, which the system will not archive. I do not know much about the anmed streams, but have downloaded and ran the streams.exe form the sysinternals page and they do indeed have sstreams attached. This ustility also allows you to remove the streams, but i have no idea what the consequences are since I don't know how the streams got put in place in the first place. It seems to primarily be with graphic files and thumbs.db and .exe files. Can anyone "Educate" me as to the ups and downs of removing the streams from all the files? Thanks
