Just wondering if a formal timeframe has been announced for Windows Server 2008. I know a February 2008 timeframe has been announced for other major products, like Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. Is that the same time frame for Windows Server as well?

After installing win2k3 sp2 on win2k3 server which had no prior sp1, update to dot.net framework 3.0 hung and I had to power down/restart server. In normal boot, it hangs at spash screen; in safe mode, it hangs at acpitabl.dat. What can I do to fix without having to rebuild the server? We are running win2k3 on a HP Proliant ML150 G2 with win2k3 mirrored 80G SATA drives.

I have setup Perfmon counter logging started the log with a max size of 100MB and with logging every 15 seconds I've been testing the log - and when I stop it even after 5 mins or 2 hours it is always the same size 128Kb, and it always says 'duration 1:40' and most importantly how do you know the time the server had an issue (if you see a counter peaking) as I can't see any time\date reference in the log when I replay is ?

by Guest Farhan- 2 replies

Hello, I have a SBS 2003 file server with a 3 disk Raid 5 setup for files. I'm starting to run fairly low on disk space and wanted to look into replacing the drives with bigger capacity ones. Currently they are 3 36GB 10,000 RPM Drives. Can any one suggest a procedure i should follow in replacing the drives? I haven't done this sort of thing before and would appreciate any help & tips. Regards.

Situation: we have tens of thousands of files (mainly word processing docs), on our 2003 file/print server. Now seemly random file are gone! I can't figure out why!?.... I did notice that when I use vss for files to get these missing files back, that they all seem to be missing after Sep.24th 12pm (my afternoon vss snapshot). So something has happened that evening, (on the 25th at 7am I have another snapshot taken and the files are not there). Variables: Using NTBackup to VS-80 tape drive, Acronis TrueImage Server 9.1 creating differential images nightly to an external USB HD. I verified that neither backup routine crosses over each other (time wise).…

Policy Preventing Kernel Mode Printer Drivers
by Guest Will- 2 replies

I'm not sure if this is something new in SP2, but apparently there is now some group policy option to prevent installation of printer drivers with kernel mode drivers. I need to install to Windows 2003 64-bit a driver for the HP 9050DN. Does anyone know if HP makes any driver for this printer that is not a kernel mode driver? -- Will

RDC improved with better video card?
by Guest Matt Carter- 3 replies

Is my Remote Desktop Connection session on Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 SP2 x32 improved at all visually if I am looking at a website with images on it, if I have say a 128MB video card instead of the onboard ....32MB or 64MB video? When images come on the pages or I am looking at screenshots from users, I find that the graphics are slow. I might be my connection, however when I am doing everything else it is OK. I am on a cable connection with a slow upload rate, however, it is DECENT. I wonder if I put in a 128MB video card if things will improve or if I'm in fantasy land and should wake up and realize it's the upload rate that is killing me and a…
