Manual NIC Settings Not Sticking?
by Guest Chris White- 2 replies

Server: Windows 2003 Server hosting DFS Targets. I have set the primary NIC to manually assigned TCP/IP Settings. I changed the Gateway from my SBS2003 server, to the master Layer3 Switch. But for some reason it keeps wanting to change back to the SBS server. Very annoying as this stops DFS talking across the VLAN's on the switch (blocked by ISA2004 on the SBS). It works fine when i've set it, then for some reason like a new remote desktop to that server, it sets the Gateway back to the SBS. It also resets when I reboot the server. This is when I hate things being done for me by Windows. I want something set, and I want it for a reason. It shouldn't…

What is the difference between a Power User and a User? I am in testing phase of AD roll out and one of my programs will not work if the domain user is a member of the local user group, however if the domain user is a member of the Power Users goup, the application seems to work. TIA John

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 Server (sp1) also running Exchange 2003 Sp2. One of the drives is running out of space however I think this is all in the System Volume Information folder, however although I get "Access Denied" when trying to view inside this folder. I have found a few posts regarding resetting the permissions, but this is a live server and wanted to check the best way to access this first before trying anything drastic. Thanks Brian

Hi All As I am just newly employed for this company and I found out that one of server was clonned so there is no legal license for it, and it was windows 2003 server std, and I've just purchased windows 2003 std R2. All I want is that just update the product key. I managed to deactive the window, but when I updated the new product key, it won't accept. Is it because of mismatch version? what should I do? Thanks in advance Cheers -- dzbom ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dzbom's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=31604 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=824946 …

Licensing query
by Guest Jonathan Smith- 0 replies

We have a server running windows server 2003 and exchange server 2003. We have 77 CAL's for each product for our users. We want to set up another server for Disaster Recovery purposes, and purchase another instance of windows server 2003 and exchange server 2003. My question is, do we have to buy another 77 CALs for each product on this new server, or can they be "transferred" over. The CAL's would only ever be used on one server at once.

Servers Losing NetBios Connectivity
by Guest Bencairney- 0 replies

Hello, I have an NT4 domain with primarily Windows 2003 Member servers, in the last few days we have experienced several issues with loss of Netbios connectivity on some servers. The first issue seemed to be related to the browse list. Servers on one VLAN disappeared from the domain browse list and could not contact a master or backup browser. Rebooting the server acting which they thought was the master browser resolved the issue and the servers all appeared in the browse list again. The second issue occured with one server, it was still available in the browse list but could not be connected to via netbios. Net view command generated a system …

Domain Administrator permissions problem
by Guest Library Sysadmin- 3 replies

I've got an odd situation occurring with the domain administrator account. I log on to any domain server or workstation with the domain adminstrator account and map a network share to any shared folder on another server or workstation. If I try to access executable files on these shares, I am getting an error box saying that the user doesn't have permissions or rights. The domain admin account can open text files. If I log in using my own account (which is a member of the Domain Admins group) I can run any of these executable files in the same shares/folders/files. In checking the share permissions or folder NTFS security, the Domain Admins group,…
