Hi, i wanted to see if there is a way to disable on the server print confirmations being sent to the client, either by a server setting or a gpo, does anyone know of a way to do that? Also, i noticed that when the printserver went down due to a hardware failure all of the connected clients became very slow and the ms office apps would also be really slow or crash, has anyone seen this before? thanks Scott

When I try to install SP2 on Windows Server 2003 I get the following error: The file c:\windows\system32\cacls.exe is open or in use by another application. Close all other applications and then click Retry. Any ideas why I'm getting this error and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Scheduled Tasks limits
by Guest Eddie- 2 replies

I have a client running windows 2003 standard edition sp2. they are telling me they have roughly 1200 scheduled tasks for the ftp server. they are saying 1300 is the limit. Is this true? and if it is then how do we increase this? does windows 2003 enterpprise edition allow for more. I have never heard of this. there is no way they can reduce the number of tasks and they are saying it will increase over the next 6 months. Thanks for the help. Ed

This problem is related with the one described earlier in several newsgroup and that is: After I installed the SP1 on Windows 2003 , I cannot connect to the Service control manager database remotely. If I try to connect to it, it gives me an Access denied error. To solve this problem I have added the domain group(S-1-5-21-2052111302-790525478-839522115-342353) with the correct rights on SCM object. Now i am able to connect remotely and obtain a list of services. However when i double click on a service i get the message. Configuration manager: Access denied. However when i click on Ok i can still manage the IdolAdminHub71 service. (stop/start). When …

centrally manage defragmenation
by Guest maxime- 7 replies

Hi Question about server en workstations defragmentation Is there a way to centrally manage disc defrag in a small network with one SBS 2003 server, AD -DC configured and 10 XP SP2 Workstations ? my workaround is to set a scheduling on each workstation to run "defrag.exe c: -f" wich is not the best practice. with this workaround i'm unable to create an overview of each workstationhealthstatus. Can i install a tool that enables me to manage disc cleanup- defrag and disccheck from the active directory for example and give me statusreport ? Thank you in advance Best regards Maxime

Hosting Platform [Repost]

Hi, I have been charged with creating a front end system for a web hosting solution. The company I work for is a large ISP based in Northern/Southern Ireland. We will be working with the Microsoft RDP team on this, as we have entered into partnership with them, and thus so will be used as a case study. Basically we are aiming for a robust deployment scenario, where upon sign up the clients website/space is created and deployed as automatically as possible, through the management interface I am designing (Similar to the way PIPEX do it). Here is the spec (That I have so far and its far from finished): • Web Hosting By default we'd like new site…

MAC and POP3 or IMAP
by Guest dalew007- 0 replies

I have a server 2003 with exchange 2003 environment with client machines running XP Pro SP2. These are connected to the domain and working fine. We have just taken on a few graphic designers which have requested they use MACS. I have managed to connect them to the network so they can access the server shares. They can access their email via OWA internally and externally but they are moaning and want to use MACmail. How do in configure this to connect to the server either via IMAP or POP3 internally? I have googled the question and tried a few times but i cant seem to be able to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- dalew007 ----…

Security Configuration Wizard: parameter incorrect error
by Guest Bhozar- 0 replies
Hi, I am currently experiencing a problem with the Security Configuration Wizard on Windows 2003 Web Edition. Each time I run it on a three of our servers it gives and error: "Problem: The parameter is incorrect." This happens after the Processing Security Configuration Database task completes and I click next. Nothing is reported in any SCW logs, system log or application log. I tried to use Sysinternals ProcessMonitor to see if it picked anything up. No luck. I have spent hours looking on Google to find nothing useful. Other near identical servers running the same software and setup don’t have these errors. Does anyone know what else I can do…

by Guest Nibe- 3 replies

Hi, I have two DC running on W2003sp2, on the primary I try to install an authoritative time server with an external time source. I read any kind of documentation but I still receive after the command w32tm /resync /rediscover the same message: Sending resync command to local computer.... The computer did not resync because no time data was available. I'm going mad, I really don't understand what could be. Here the regedit parameters: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time] "Type"=dword:00000020 "Start"=dword:00000002 "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "ImagePath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\ 74,…

Is it possible to Write-Protect USB block storage devices on Win2k
by Guest TekSimple- 0 replies
I am familiar with how to write protect USB drives on Windows XP SP2, (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies. That registry setting works very well with group policy, but for our workstations only. The same registry setting does nothing for a Windows Server 2003 box. I need to prevent even accidental writes to removable storage devices on one particular server for overarching security policy reasons (rather than for practical purposes). Does anyone know how this can be done without "upgrading" to Longhorn beta or using a third party product?

Set Processor affinity to run an application over just 4 or 5 core
by Guest RSOLY777- 5 replies

Hello, How can I set an application running on windows server 2003 to use only 4 or 5 cores on a Dual Quad Processor machine? It must be able to always run this way even in the event of a re-boot. I want all applications to be able to use all cores but want to limit this specific application to always only use th3 defined 4 or 5 cores, (This is due to a license restriction in the Software that We will be using). Does MS have an application that will allow me to do this? This can mean the difference between a $40,000.00 License and a $80.000.00 License. I do not want to use any virtual server technology software to accomplish this. Thanks Robert
