However, 50 percent of the respondents said there was a lack of demand for such loans and 40 percent said there was a limited number of mortgage applicants at their bank who meet the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting criteria for conforming jumbo loans, which require better credit scores and higher down payments. The Fed survey also revealed that both domestic and foreign banks expected to continue tightening standards on most loans through the end of 2008 and into 2009. "We think the Fed might have to be tightening by the end of this year, so higher interest rates coupled with higher credit standards is not a pretty picture," said Kim Rupert, managing…

Server 2003 to log in automatically
by Guest cbass- 4 replies
I would like to have one of my servers log in automatically on reboot. I found an article where I can change the registry values for DefaultUserName and DefaultPassword. So far this does work and when I reboot my server it is logged in automatically. I will create a GP so the server locks. Is there another way to have the server login autmatically than making the registry changes? This will be a remote server so I will be accessing it via Remote Desktop and a PCAnywhere type of product.

Client machines slow under hyper v
by Guest muaddib32- 2 replies

I have two servers I am running as hyper v clients on a new W2008 server. They are running very slowly. It takes minutes for them to perform the simplest action such as opening IE. The virtual disks are stored on a RAID5 array. I used to have them running as clients on a Athlon3200 W2003 server with 2GB RAM running VMWare server and they were much faster. The disk then was just RAID0. Can anyone suggest how I can speed them up. Without adding extra hardware as I shouldn't have thought it was necessary. According to the features description for a particular edition, I think the web edition could be just fine. Under what circumstances we could find ouerselfs in a position that we need to replace the Windows Web Server 2008 by the Windows Server 2008 Standard edition? Thanks, Lubomir

Server Standard 2003; I want more than 4gb ram!
by Guest TomSullivan- 2 replies

I asked a question earlier about installing Server Standard 64-bit, but no one told me if I can use the same license for both editions. Second, is there a way to run more than 4gb of ram on the 32-bit version. It seems pretty arbitrary that the enterprise version can use /PAE and Standard can't. Is there some sort of 3rd party software that can do this? I don't need all the extra stuff that enterprise comes with, nor do I want to pay that much for it. Thanks for your time! Tom

Giving contract developer access
by Guest Hugh G. Johnson- 3 replies

I'm a small business owner which makes me the System Administrator of my web and database servers. In the past I've given contractors Administrative rights when they used the machines, but now I'm starting to use developers from other countries and they are logging in via the WAN. My question is there a way to give a contractor access to the machine to create SQL databases, websites, create directories, change file permissions, etc. without being an administrator, and even blocking access to files I don't want them to? I thought Power Users would be best, but I've been told thats a no-no. Sincerely, Hugh

Folder Redirection
by Guest michael.blaustein@gmail.com- 0 replies

So, I set up the Default Domain Policy under Group Policy Management in Server Manager in Windows Server 2008 for Folder Redirection. The settings I chose were Basic (Redirect everyone's folder to the same location), and under Target Folder Location, "Create a folder for each user under the root path" was chosen. The Root Path is set as \ \SageRealtyDC.SageRealty.local\SageRealtyUsers. I set up SageRealtyUsers as a Share and gave Everyone Full Control. From most of what I read on the subject of Folder Redirection, this should create a folder in the SageRealtyUsers folder when the user logs in using this new policy for the first time, and copy the My Documents…

slow network file access on 2k3 sp1 and sp2 R2 server
by Guest JimK- 3 replies

Hello, One of our remote offices began complaining of slow network file access of Excel files on their file server/DC which was a Win2k3 sp1 R1 server. Certain Excel files (almost all have links to other Excel files on the same server) would take 60 seconds to 2-4 minutes to open, before prompting to update the data w/in the files. Prior to this it would take 15 seconds or less to open the same files. We were unable to find anything wrong with the server through the event viewer, net/dcdiag, etc. After a great deal of pressure from this office we replaced the server with a newer Win2k3 sp2 R2 server and migrated the data to the new server. The …

When I go into the Windows Firewall to open up the firewall to allow IP addresses to connect to the server I see 4 ports listed under file and print sharing. The 4 ports are TCP 139, TCP 445, UDP 137, and UDP 138. How are these ports different? Would I need make client IP exceptions for all 4 of these ports for file sharing?

2008 to 2003 Downgrade
by Guest chaswood- 3 replies

A client of mine needs more memory on his server for an application using a large graphics database. He was told by a Microsoft representative that he could purchase Server 2008 and downgrade to 2003 in order to get the larger memory support (16 GB is desired). All the Microsoft tables that I can find show that Server 2008 Standard can be downgraded to a Server 2003 Standard license, but 2003 Standard supports maximum 4 GB (even 64-bit 2003). He has a Dell Poweredge 2900 with 64 bit Xeon dual core that can handle it with no problem. Does anyone know of a workable solution without going to the Enterprise edition? Thanks in advance! -- IT Consul…

Hi! Can somebody advice free software on disk to disk back up with the option to back up to an external drive ? I found Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Express (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/), it might be one to test, but I'm guessing it doesn't have much in the way of features... is here anyone who tried this software? Thank you!

How can I remove a started setup/installation of Windows Server 2003and restore the old operating system? Hello, Because on my server with Windows Server 2003 I had an error message "ntldr not found" I started it with the setup-CD. Actually I wanted to try to repair it. However, after initiating the setup it took quite long so in between I went to my work place. When I came back it was way down the installation procedure in the GUI part already but finally it couldn't find some files and stopped. Unfortunately now it always runs into the setup which does not work, I have no choice to boot in the old windows Server 2003 operating system. I tried F8 and chose …

In a home setting with 5 computers running winxp would there be any need to run a server environment ? Can user rights, priviledges, and dhcp be accomplished with security settings within winxp and a router? Would I be sacrificing anything doing this within a workgroup or would it be better to setup a domain in a server setting?

DCPROMO

This morning to promo'd out what I believed to be a NT BDC promoted to PDC, then upgraded to Win2000. The demotion I guess went ok, users can log in, no calls etc . . But when I look at our AD-DNS, the old DC is still listed as a name server. When I look at ADSites and Services, he's still listed in my site, but there is no NTDS listed. If I look at Computer Mangement\Sessions there are a handful of users connected, but no open files. And what's the deal in Sites and Services when links aren't automatically created? I forget. But I have a handful of links that were manually created... So - should I wait for my four sites to replicate for that…

by Guest Frederik- 1 reply

Hi, We need to connect with windows VPN to an external office but receive error 619: I thought the traffic was blocked by our netscreen firewall, but all outbound traffic is allowed. I opened also several incoming and outgoing ports (GRE, PPTP, L2TP, 1723) but that didn't solved the problem. The vpn connection is working perfect at home so something blocks the traffic. On the clients the windows firewall is desactivated. Can someone help? Thank you. Frederik

Hi, I am looking for a method to restart a remote server as soon as the server is not accessible via port 3389 during a specific amount of time. How can I check right from the remote server: "is my port 3389 still reachable or not?". Or are there different, even more common tasks to get the same effect? Thanks for your input. Patrick

Macintosh file stored on Windows Server 2003
by Guest myBasic- 0 replies

Hi, I have been using Windows Server for storing Macintosh's files for years. Some day the Server 2000 failed, I installed Windows server 2000 on the another machine. and then restored the files. But I found that the InDesign with the linked graphic eps files has been broken, I have to re-link again, pretty annoying. Even I installed the Windows server 2003 with the same ip address, the same Server Name, the same shared paths as previous server, and then isolate that Server machine from the domain network by another network swith, and then restored the files. When I open the InDesign files, it prompt me to re-link the attached eps graphic files, but …
