Run batch file on remote server
by Guest PeteL- 6 replies

Overview: two servers running as cluster with the scheduled task clustered so if one server goes down the other will still run scheduled tasks. Problem: To do this the 'scheduled tasks' service is set to manual and only runs on the active server, if primary server fails then cluster starts scheduled service on secondary server once it becomes primary server. This means that I can't run a scheduled task to backup the system state on the secondary server. Question: Is it possible create a scheduled task on the primary server which will run a batch file as if it has been called from the secondary server? Thanks in advance, apologies for lengthy text. …

VPN Slowness
by Guest Dave- 1 reply

Using a default install of RAS, here is what we get: Transfer #1 test.mp3 100% 10MB 318.6KB/s 00:33 Transfer #2 test.mp3 23% 2508KB 4.57KB/s 10:01 (I killed the second transfer after 10 minutes, you get the idea) The connection in transfer #2 goes stalled randomly and then picks back up. Before you answer “your link speed is to blame” please note that the above proves this is not the case. Transfer #1 & #2 are connections between the same two computers, the only difference being, #2 is after connecting to the VPN. Transfer #1 is straight across the ‘net with no VPN. This shows that clearly, the link is not to blame or they w…

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting in but, I am puzzled by a DHCP Problem on a Windows 2003 server. Here's the info... 1. When trying to access the DHCP console, either remotely or locally, I get the error message Cannot find the DHCP server. The DHCP server you specified cannot be located. The DHCP server might be down, there might be network problems, or the DHCP service might not be installed. The error was: The parameter is incorrect. 2. I checked the service and logs and the DHCP server is actively handing out leases and running 3. I was able to access this console yesterday before I left. 4. There are no errors in the…

Does anyone know how to turn off the "unblocked" feature (or whatever you want to call it) from Windows 2003 R2? Every time I try and execute and program on a remote drive... Windows blocks it. I end up having to copy it locally and then going to properties to unblock. Thanks http://myblog4fun.com/wickedinfo/archive/2007/09/24/why-windows-servers-will-failed-in-the-enterprise.aspx

Does anyone know any software, script, console or method that can help me to achieve this without checking manually each share in each server (it could take ages). Thanks. Miguel.

Search unused disk space for text string...
by Guest Jake- 1 reply
Hi, I have lost a text file on a server disk. I know it is somewhere on the unused space surface, but no file-based recovery utility has been able to locate the filename. Hence I need a utility which can read trough unused sectors or clusters and display its contents when a specific text string is found. Thanks for tips on which win32 based cluster/sector based disk search utilities. Preferably freeware or trialware ;-) Thanks for comments and tips Jake

Offline files issue
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

Users on my W2K3 domain are experiencing the following problem: Their logon scripts map multiple shared drives, all from a single Network Appliance fileserver. The mappings include H: (their home directory), P: (public share), and G: (groupdata share), etc. The problem occurs when a user enables offline files on their PC, and configures their home directory (mapped as H:) to synchronize. The synchronization works fine, BUT when the user attempts to access the other shared directories, such as P: (public), or G: (groupdata), they see only the empty root folder of that share, none of the subfolders or contents, even though the drives have multiple subfold…

Preventative Maintenance Software/Schedule
by Guest Matt S- 3 replies

Greetings! My company is beginning to think as a larger entity than they used to, which is good since we've been growing like mad. Previously we had a "fix if broken" policy of maintenance but we're looking to step away from that to something more preventative. I was wondering if any of you folks could recommend a good program to help keep track of what the servers are doing, when things were fixed and when they are likely to need it again, etc... Short of that, I would be interested in hearing anyone's regular maintenance schedule for their servers. Thanks all! Cheers!

Unable to install Xerox WorkCentre 7345
by Guest Steve- 2 replies

I am trying to install a Xerox WorkCentre On my Windows 2000 Server. I go through the normal steps to add the printerbut right after if copies the drivers to the server I get the message "Can not add printer Operation could not be completed" This is the only printer I have had this problem with. We have 20+ HP printers installed without error. I have tried updated drivers, older drivers, default drivers all with the same result. Any ideas why this is happening and how can I resolve it? Thank you.

Auditing/Accounting
by Guest Tom McCarroll- 1 reply

I have been tasked with implementing auditing/accounting for our network so we may start "charge back". The things I need to track are domian user level based disk reads/writes, storage and CPU usage. I have checked out WSRM but it doesn't seem to do what I need. (Speciffically I am unable to get user level data) It also seems to be a bit clunky. Am I missing something with WSRM or is there something else out there that I should be looking at? TIA Tom

Server 2003 post SP2 update hangs at "applying computer settings"
by Guest Jason Knight- 1 reply

I've got a situation that requires some describing. We recently upgraded our BES server from W2K to W2K3 standard. All went well during and after the upgrade. We installed SP2, everything's fine. We install post-SP2 updates, and everything's not fine. Upon reboot, "applying computer settings" just hangs there eternally. Two minutes later I find a KB article on Microsoft's support site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905716 It refers to using PowerChute version 6.x which had a packaged version of Java 1.2.1 that had a digital certificate that expired in 2005. We never had version 6.x on this machine, we started with Powerchute 7.04 and had no problem…
