by Guest Lee337- 0 replies

I am currently planning a budget for the next five years and part of this budget is going to include a domain upgrade to Active Directory 2008 as well as all the appropriate licenses. I am having a difficult time finding any initial licensing info on the 2008 product line. I was hoping someone could give their two cents on the following questions. All input is appreciated. Thanks. -Has Microsoft released any updated information on 2008 licensing structure and how it relates to Server 2003? -If we already have an environment with Server 2003 DCs and 2000/XP client licenses, will we need to upgrade all CALs when we move to 2008? -It is my unders…

I have exported the cab file from my old print server (Windows 2000 server)with no issue but when I am attempting to install the cab on the new server (Windows 2003 Print Cluster instance) I am getting the following error in the PM.log. As soon as I get this error Printmig.exe bombs out and I don't get any other messages. Has anyone else seen this error? IBM Server won't install

Group, I have tried everything I can think of. I have an IBM x3560 7979 PSG server and I cannot get Windows 2003 or 2000 server to install on this. They both both start setup, say they are loading the files, say setup is starting windows, then goes to the welcome to setup screen. I then have the standard options: ENTER=cotinue, R=Repair, F3=quit I hit enter and it tells me "Setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer". I have gone to IBM's site, got updated drivers and then stopped dead in my tracks, there is no floppy drive on this system. I have no floppy drive on any of the laptops or desktops I have. I am looking for any h…

by Guest JP- 1 reply

Will be installing SBS 2003 R2 on a new HP ML350 G5 server. Need advice on best way to proceed. Network currently has two NT 4.0 servers, one domain server, one backup. I want the SBS to take over as the primary server while still having the NT servers available so that data folders and other items may be transfered over in the following weeks.

only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed error on 3 servers.

only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed error on 3 servers. I have 3 servers (DC, Exchange, App Server) all running Windows2k3 Standard. I have about 50 systems running WinXP SP2. Just last week I went to install the client for an application when the client executable file came up with the generic executable icon (the blue/white one) and when I tried to run the application it popped back the error, "only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed". Troubleshooting done so far: 1. tested on various machines- approximately 10. Through network mapped drives the error occurs 2. tested via remote…

It appears that the folder rediection can be done is the backup wizard in the server managment console. This also appears to be set globally for all users. 1. Is this the only way to do this? 2. Can this be done on a per user basis? -- KARacing

Is there a way to allow any user within the domain to logon to any workstation without manually setting them up as a local admin? Perhaps through group policies? Thanks

I have taken over a network with ~150 servers (Mixed Windows 2000 & 2003) and 50~workstations (Mixed Windows 2000 and XP) with all servers and workstations running on static IP addresses. The network is spread across a number of VLANs and everything is running without problem, but we have recently had to change our primary and secondary DNS servers which resulted in a large amount of manual work on every box. Subsequently we would like to look at deploying a redundant DHCP configuration with reservations for all of the servers and probably all of the clients as well, but are struggling on the best way to achieve this. If we were to deploy two DHCP…

Remote Desktop Lockups
by Guest Tim Gowen- 1 reply

I'm seeing a lot of lock-ups with remote users on a particular W2K3 server. I've tried the KeepAlive registry fix, but it was already set to the recommended setting. Power management or screen savers don't seem to be the issue either. The screens of the remote session just go to the background colour, with no icons. They're still shown as connected in the Administrator, but they cannot be made to come alive. Tim

Sysvol folders \scripts and \polices deleted...
by Guest Jake- 6 replies

Hi, On one of our servers the sysvol\sysvol\<domainname>\policies and ..scripts folders are deleted. This was probably due to replication problems with FRS and it has been replicated 'the wrong way'. How can I have the system autocreate these folders again as they are after having installed a new system? Thanks a lot for comments and tips... cheers jake

Non-Roaming mandatory profiles
by Guest Joseph T Corey- 4 replies

Has anyone successfully created a terminal server environment where you had non-roaming mandatory profiles? I'd like to take the idea of a mandatory profile and apply it to all new local accounts that are created, but for numerous reasons I can't use roaming or TS roaming profiles. I'd accept a solution that just deleted the local account at logoff. I've looked at delprof, but that seems to be better suited as a startup or shutdown script. Any help is appreciated! -- Joseph T. Hi I was wondering if there are any resources anywhere that lists the benefits and pitfalls of using .com (or other TLD) over .local when creating a new domain? Thanks
