logon server question
by Guest Stephen Berger- 2 replies

I have a windows 2000 mixed mode domain with (2) 2003 servers as DC. One is local and the other is over a wan link. It looks like all users are authenticating to the remote server whether they are local or not. This is causing havoc in my login script. I had thought that whichever server answered first (usually the local) would authenticate the user, but this may not be the case. Both should be GC. FSMO roles are split between the servers. Does one FSMO role more control the logon process? Any input is appreciated Thanks

DCPromo question
by Guest BBW- 1 reply

I have 4 domains in my 2003 AD Forest. I want to remove one of the domains, abc.com. If i run DCPromo on the last domain controller in abc.com, and i put a checkmark on "this is the last domain controller in this domain, is this correct...? This will not affect my other domains, except i will not see the abc.com domain anymore, right...? Thanks, Tom...

User home folder name remains when another user is re-mapped
by Guest Techhead- 3 replies

If user A logs into a computer, the "H" drive is mapped to his/hers home folder and displays the name of the folder that it is mapped to. Example, bjohnson on 'fileserver' (H:). If user B logs in, "H" is re- mapped to this users folder but the name of the folder still remains as user A. If you open up "H", you see user B's files but the name of the mapped folder is still user A. It's almost like it's cached. Is there some king of registry setting to clear this kind of cache? I force the disconnect and the mapping is not persistent. Any ideas?

Problems logging onto DC using Remote Desktop as admin of another domain
by Guest Curtis Fray- 3 replies

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 DC in one domain. I've added the administrator account of another Windows 2003 domain (in a seperate forest) to the "Remote Desktop Users" group. However, when I try to logon using the admin account of the other domain I get an error saying: "To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted Allow log on through Terminal Services right. By default, member of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right..." All trusts are in place and working, RDC is fine when logging on with local admin rights. Is there another step I'm missing? Thanks, Curtis. -- Please reply to news group only. Thank you.

LSASRV/SPNEGO error
by Guest Brion- 0 replies
Hi everyone, We've been periodically seeing the following error message on all 4 of our Windows 2003 DC/DNS servers: Source: LSASRV Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator) Type: Warning Event ID: 40960 Description: The Security System detected an authentication error for the server cifs/127.0.0.1. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. (0xc000005e)". The error message only seems to happen occasionally, but this morning we lost DNS on all 4 servers. After rebooting all 4 servers, DNS is back. I have no idea why DNS bombed out, but I noticed the above error…

Install mapped drive as a service?
by Guest gscanga- 6 replies

Does anyone know if this is relatively easy to accomplish? I'm trying to figure out if I can install a service on Windows 2003 that will execute a net use command? So, this will allow a network drive to be mapped without requiring a user to logon. Thanks!

Hi, I'm a little confused by licensing.... If you have 100 users and 2 servers do you need 100 CALs on each server or just 100 CALs in total? Billbo

Win2003 restarts itself 60 minutes after shutdown
by Guest osu9400- 3 replies
I am running Windows Server 2003 Standard on an old Compaq Presario desktop. (Believe it or not, it runs well and serves my needs nicely as a home server.) Many nights I'll shut down the server (not hibernate or sleep). Every time, one hour after shutdown, the server restarts itself. I cannot figure out why. This has always occurred and is still happening on a fully patched system. Any ideas what is happening here?

Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain
by Guest Mark- 7 replies
I have an NT Server, SP6 that resides on an NT Domain. It copies large (1GB) files to a AD Member Server that resides in another domain (obviously) - and furthermore the DNS servers for BOTH domains reside in the AD Domain. There are no DNS servers in the NT Domain. To assist with this somewhat - we use host files on the NT Server to direct traffic. When I copy a file within the NT domain the copy speed is avg of 500MB+/s When I copy a file across from NT to AD domain the copy speed drops to 20MB+/s Help. I need to speed this up.

RUPS and VSS
by Guest Johan Strange- 1 reply

Hi, I have missed something here and would like some input please guys. I have RUPS for some users, created using the %username% variable. I have VSS running on the drive where the RUP share is however the VSS does not create RUP restore points ? I either get access denied (regardless of the ACL entry) or the restore point list is blank. This issue seems to be consistant with other networks and I have only just noticed it because I needed to restire some data for a user. Any thoughts or commenst would be great. Many Thanks. Johan

by Guest Ziguana- 3 replies

Afternoon, we have had an issue with a couple of our windows 2003 servers for a few months now but it's something we now need to fix, it seems we can connect or map a drive to a servers C drive and create files on it, we can even copy small files to it from my local machine.. but as soon as I try to copy larger files (as in 4-5mb) I get an error telling me 'make sure you are connected to the network and try agian' I am definatly connected to the network and it only happens on these two servers, it also happens for others not just me... anyone any ideas? I found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259837 but it's the wrong OS and not quite the correct er…
