IUSR_ account is locking itself
by Guest Joe Murphy- 0 replies

A number of times during the day the IUSR_ account locks itself. I'm pretty sure it is related to the password policy that we propagated throughout the domain, requiring password complexity and expiration after 90 days. The day after we applied this policy, Outlook Web Access stopped running and I found, after some searching, that IUSR_ was locked out. Can I just reset that password to whatever I like as long as it matches the password in the Default Site in IIS? Thanks, JM

Small Business Server extra "junk" group policies, etc.?
by Guest Joe Murphy- 2 replies

What was the purpose behind Small Business Server 2003? I just started at a new IT group and SBS was installed on the DC well before I got here. I'm finding all manner of extra "turds" all over the place, including group policies like "Small Business Server Lockout Policy" and "Small Business Server Windows Firewall" It looks like these were pre-baked policies that came with the OS for, well, "small" businesses so they wouldn't have to do much heavy lifting. Makes sense, in a way, but I'm ready to ditch some of this stuff and create my own policies. Any reason why I should keep them? Also I see OUs like "MyBusiness" which contain redundant OUs within …

Confused about ASR process
by Guest Guy Kerr- 8 replies

I feel stupid asking this question since I've found no discussions about this and feel that I must be missing something. We're doing an office move and I want to create up-to-date ASR's for each of my servers (all Server 2003). I used Windows Backup and the wizard to generate the ASR. It instructs me to insert the floppy but in no time the floppy is full and I'm asked to insert another. The backup progress indicates that I've got THOUSANDS more files (depends on which server) to backup and based on that screen I'd have to be swapping out floppies all day. Am I doing something wrong here? I expected that the process would simply copy the critical…

Converting secondary DNS server to primary
by Guest swu30@hotmail.com- 2 replies

I'm hoping this is a simple question - I have a DNS server on W2k that is a secondary on our main Forward Lookup Zone. I would like to bump up to be the primary DNS server for our zone, is it as easy as right clicking on the zone and in the Properties, clicking on the Change... button? That would have to happen for all the reverse lookup zones as well? I would also need to change the SOA record. Is there more to do? Thx!

Certificate server Web enrollment problems
by Guest Briano- 4 replies

For some reason I cannot connect to our certificate server via the web interface. Using http://servername/certsrv I get a "page cannot be displayed error". Should I be able to connect this way at the certificate server itself ? If I should be able, I can't. How can I determine if the cert web server is actually running? It appears to be, at least it does not show "stopped". Is ther a troubleshooting routine I can follow somewhere ? Thanks for any help. Brian

windows 2008 server (member of AD) in 2003 domain possible?
by Guest markm75- 1 reply

I'm assuming the answer to this will be yes.. but.. My thinking is this: We have a box, which i have 2003 server installed.. we were about to install 2007 exchange on this system, but i thought, perhaps I should wait and just install 2008 server on this machine, then install exchange 2007 on that (once sp1 is released apparently). I guess there is no reason to install a beta of 2008 then install 2007 exchange on that, as i couldnt just apply a patch t get it to the full 2008 server when released (either).. Does anyone know if 2008 server will be released to businesses in November of 2007.. and also an eta on when exchange 2007 sp1 will be released? …

Server 2003 Group Policies - Affecting Administrative Profile
by Guest wideye- 4 replies

Hello, I'm setting up a dedicated Terminal Server and I have a question regarding local group policies in Windows Server 2003. Is there a way to apply group policies to all user profiles aside from Administrator? Obviously I want certain restrictions for user profiles that need not apply to the administrative profile (Example: disabling access to the control panel). Is there a way to specify which users GP's apply to? Thanks,

Resuming failed backup
by Guest Ben- 3 replies
I am using Windows Backup (NTbackup.exe) to backup 1TB of files to a network drive. Because it takes 36 hours for this to complete, the chance of it failing is high. Can I resume a failed backup (without resorting to a subsequent differential backup)? Is robocopy a better solution for what I'm doing? My concern is with with "in use" files, (ie. a PST files was causing Robocopy to stop, retry, stop retry endlessly). What is your recommendation, besides using a third party tool. Your help is greatly appreciated. -Ben
