Windows 2008 Print Server
by Guest LilDeb- 5 replies

Hi There, I hope I am posting this to the right board.... We are slowly starting to introduce Server 2008 into our environment. One of the projects I have been assigned, is to decommission our Print Serve Appliances, and migrate them over to the 2008 environment. I have done some reading on this and know that I can assign the print server role, manually add the printers or have them automatically discovered, create the shares, update the drivers, etc….. My question is this: How many printers can one server manage? We are not a large environment, and have approximately 160 servers. Currently we have 4 print serve devices that are divided based on flo…

Windows Server 2008 Backup
by Guest KenP- 5 replies

I installed Windows Server Backup and have the following situation: When I run anything but scheduled backup, I am provided a window showing local devices to back up the files to. When I select Scheduled Backup and select the files to be backed up, I get an error msg stating there is no local drive to back the files up to instead of the Local Drive option screen. I've tried it several times and can't seem to figure out what is going wrong. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. KenP

ntbackup missing tapes
by Guest Hector Cruz [H&PCS]- 0 replies

Hi, I have a Win2003 Small Business Server, and want to restore a set of 2 tapes with only the firts tape (the 2nd is missing). When I try to catalog the 1st tape, at the end appears a message telling me than insert the next tape. After I press "cancel" no catalog (partially) was restore. Does any one knows how to restore a partially catalog to recover some information from the tape? I think it could be possible becase in NT4, ntbackup has /missingtape switch that makes to read the catalog from the available tapes from the set. In Win2K Srv that switch does not exist, but works as is. (Document ID : 244805: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244805/…

RDP Not Working since installing patch MS08-067
by Guest Greg H- 3 replies

I'm hoping someone can advise on a problem we are having. Since installing the Microsoft Patch MS08-067 last Friday, we cannot connect to two servers via Remote Desktop. The rest of our 70 servers are not having this problem. The RDP services are running. The firewall is off. I disabled and then renabled Remote Desktop on the My Computer Properties. I haven't restarted the server yet but will be trying that after 5 PM today. There are no errors in the logs regarding RDP. If you had this problem and were able to correct it, please advise. Thanks in advance. Greg

Windows Server 2003 Boot Problem
by Guest Brian Mosher- 2 replies

I have an old Win2K Advanced Server that I'd possibly like to upgrade to Windows Server 2003. I got the trial version from Microsoft and burned the 2 ISO images to CDs. The CD isn't bootable, though. It definitely has a boot sector on it, but just boots right into Server2K. The CD light blinks for a second on bootup and then moves right on. If I put the Server2K CD in, it will boot into that install fine. Any ideas? Thanks, Brian Mosher

Server Performance
by Guest Redleg6- 5 replies

We have a client-server application that we are having perfomance problems on. The server runs a very complex medical archiving application that is accessed by clients. The server runs Win2003 R2, the clients are a mixture of XP and 2000. Occassionally the server's avg disk queue length will increase suddenly and stay high (100+) for 15-20 seconds, drop down and then repeat again. When it is high the performance on the workstations suffers significantly. When the avg disk queue length increases pages\sec increases only a little. What could be our problem?

warning 4515 (source: DNS)
by Guest Banji ajiye- 1 reply

Below is the warning message i got in the event viewer of my DC1: The zone 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa was previously loaded from the directory partition MicrosoftDNS but another copy of the zone has been found in directory partition ForestDnsZones.unicem.com.ng. The DNS Server will ignore this new copy of the zone. Please resolve this conflict as soon as possible. If an administrator has moved this zone from one directory partition to another this may be a harmless transient condition. In this case, no action is necessary. The deletion of the original copy of the zone should soon replicate to this server. If there are two copies of this zone in two differ…

Recently Used Programs are not listed in Start Menu in Windows Ser
by Guest Chris Douglas- 0 replies

I am using Windows Server 2003. I really like the recently used programs section of the Start Menu, but I notice that certain Microsoft applications do not appear as they should. My understanding is that as the more an application is used, the higher it appears on the list. I use Microsoft Visual Source Safe and Microsoft Visual Source Safe Administrator quite often, but Administrator keeps dropping off the list. I have even removed items from the bottom of the list until it appears again, but then it disappears the next time I look for it. I also have determined that HTML Help Image Editor NEVER appears on the recently used program list. Never. I have re…

Re: Regarding Cluster server doubt. Once you wipe your 2000 domain controller you will loose all accounts even when you recreate them with the same names, it will not work. What you should have is 2 DC's, then upgrade one by one, maintaining your AD/Domain at all times. as this is more a Server question, I am X-posting into microsoft.public.windows.server.general "Alexyy" <Alexyy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:50B42C8A-1EA2-4871-AFFE-1B56235F4AEB@microsoft.com... > Hi All, > > I need a clarification with regard to windows 2000 server domain > controller upgrade to Windows 2003 domain controller. > > I h…

Question - Can I force a machine to use a specific DC for Authentication
by Guest Clubsprint- 9 replies

G'day all my proxy/internet server (2003 service pack 2) runs a product called Clearswift Mimesweeper that uses NT authentication to validate user data for instigation of rulesets and reporting. We seemm to have a problem with some users the proxy server is using a different DC to the users PC to authenticate and this is then stopping the users from surfing the web when authentication fails. The prtoblem appears to be that the proxy server is using a remote (WAN) DC to Authenticate. Does anyone know how I can force the proxy to authenticate to a particular or is there some software that will work? Thanks

Hello If Windows 2003 Server Domain Controller goes down for any reason: a)What happens to the servers that are attached as child domains and what happens to all of the mappings to drives? b)How do you make all of the child domain controllers that are attached to the domain controller restore their connections and their mappings once the domain controller is brought back up? When I try to access the Services and Event Viewer task in the Administrative Tools Folder, I get the message "Access is Denied". Would you know how to fix this problem. The last time I used these tasks was last month when I did the Microsoft Patch Update. I check the Security setting on these files and it show that the local Admin and Domain Admin has Full Rights.
