hello all, i got a big problem, i get a 0x0000006F Session3_initialization_failed error on my server. the server was working fine till the DNS service stopt, after looking in logs i could`nt find anything so i rebooted the server. after reboot i got the error. after googeling i find a solution to fixmbr and chkdsk the harddrive in the recovery console from windows 2003 server setup, butt you have to enter a administrator password. i have enterd the password about 25 times and still it says it`s the wrong password. so is there a other way to get in to the recovery console or is there a better solution to fix this problem. regards reugebrink

0x0000008E Hotfix in KB 829422
by Guest msdawkins- 3 replies

I have a Win 2003 Std Edition w/ SP1 server with the problem described in KB article 829422. Microsoft has sent me the hotfix per my request. The only problem is that when I try to install it, it says that "the Service Pack version is newer than the update, so it is not necessary to install", and then closes. I have checked the file version of Win32k.sys (which is the file to be updated) and my file is a "lower" version number than the one described in the article. Has anyone else seen this issue? What is the point of the hotfix if it can't be installed?

Hello. Problem: For dual core Opterons it sure seems like Win2003 SP2 does not support ACPI processor performance states (AMD PowerNow!)? Symptom: If using AMD's Powernow CPU Driver for power managent on a dual core Opteron in a Win2003 SP2 (Enterprise Edition) setup, the system will eventually stop with error Description: I am look for a solution to using the powermanagment drivers from AMD with a dual core opteron on a Win2003 SP2 system. The system will eventually crash with a stop error if I simply install the drivers. Up till that point, AMD Power Monitor however can verify that the cores in the CPU are under power management from the AMD Pow…

Hello all. On saturday I was working on our server win2003 std sp2. I installed an updated version of Symantec Mail Security. Then I rebooted the server without problems. Then I installed some patches from MSUpdate. Then I rebooted the server without problems. Finally I installed the Sp1 for wsus 3.0. Then I rebooted the server. After this last reboot, before than the login mask (it was "setting network connections") the server rebooted by himself. Hey I have gotten this BSOD twice in the last 10 days on my production phone server. I have two dump files but I admit fully that i'm no good at reading them and I can't make heads or tails of them. It happened while we were rebooting the machine. There is a phone system running on it and that uses SQL server 2000 as it's reporting mechanisim. Any ideas what's going on? The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000096 (0x81f8b618, 0x820f6e90, 0x808b0560, 0x81f8b7bc). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. 1 backup Device or multiple
by Guest Al- 3 replies

Hey all, I need some *polite* argument points please :) I work at a consulting company who manages networks for their clients. I'm reletively new here but something strikes me as unusual: In many cases, where there are multiple servers, they also use multiple backup devices. For example: FS1 has a backup device AS1 has a backup device TS1 has a backup device The argument they give is that it is more than a single point of failure and if one backup failes or they forget to put in a tape, then chances are that the other ones will pass. Basically they are not relying on 1 tape drive to do it all (lets say use a 400/800 instead of 3 x 200/400 lto drives)…

1 large head office and lots of branches!
by Guest UselessUser- 4 replies

Hi all, I got a new job, and it is vastly different to where I was before (Supporting users all in one building), here they have a large head office (600 users), with several 150+ small geographically distant sites, each containing from 3 to 10 PC's... The way this has been managed is simple, HO uses group policies, domain logons etc, whereas all the branches have local user accounts, and use webmail or have outlook configured to our Exchange in HO, and they map network drives manually... I am not sure why it is like this, but obviously it is a pain in the a**e to manage... with any changes needing to be manually made to every computer in every si…

I imagine that it is OK to delete the files, but I wanted to check with everyone to make sure that you haven't experience anything detrimental from doing so. Thanks, S

by Guest gman- 0 replies

I have a large disk array SATA Perc 5 array Hardware is ok. The drive is only part there. Some folders are empty and the rest I can not copy to or from. The power faild during an update and I think the File table is corrupt. I would like to back up the current file table and the second copy of the file table but I am getting lost in that I am not sure if I need to back up the $MFT and $MFTmirr or if the MBR is also part of the meta data needed to restore the state. Bottom line I need to restore the file system prior to the crash. What tools should I use? C drive is mirrored OS and is OK. E, F, G, are on the Raid array over 10 TB This is a MS NAS s…

Hi, After I have upgrade my Windows 2003 x64 R2 server from 1 Dual Core Opteron to 2 Dual Core Opteron, (and upgraded from 4 to 12Gb of RAM) I'm suffering freezing issues during intensive calculations. Like processing an SSSAS OLAP Cube. once the calculation process is done or is in a less intensive part of the process, I can get the control again. before the upgrade I can do something on the server even when the CPU is at 100% of usage. Any idea? Thanks. Jerome.

1010, 1016 & 1014 DHCP errors
by Guest Olivier- 2 replies

Dear All, Our DHCP server (WIN2K3 SP1) shows event ID 1010, 1016 & 1014 in the Event log. There is enough space on the C drive where the DHCP (& backup) database resides. I’ve also uncheck the ‘Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching’ option but this doesn’t solve the issue. I’ve found some articles for NT4 & 2000 server discussing similar issues but not for 2003. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Olivier

1054 error in Windows 2003 server
by Guest Larry Heimendinger- 1 reply

I created a brand new domain and started with a reformatted hard drive for Windows 2003 standard server. Just about everything has gone exactly as planned, but i have started getting repeated 1054 error posts that the domain controller cannot be found and group policy processing has been terminated. Essentially, there are no other errors posted to event logs, and this one happens about every 5 minutes for a while, stops, then resumes some hours later (not predictable when). DNS looks fine, and netdiag reports no problems. The only thing i can add is that on this same box until a few weeks ago a SBS 2003 os copy was running and started having the same…

1U vs. 2U
by Guest MSUTech- 3 replies

This may be more of a DELL question, but, I thought that someone in this group may have some 'input': We are about to move forward on purchasing a few poweredge servers to add to our existing rack of servers. I am basically looking at the 2950 III (2U), 2970 (2U), and the 1950 III (1U). It would be ideal, if we could add 1U servers, which increases our rack capacity, so, I have some general questions. In comparing the 1U and 2U servers, what are the PRO's and CON's of going with a 1U over a 2U? Examples: Max Hard Drive Space (RAID 5)?, Heat?, Noise?, other issues? thanks...

2 Locations - One or Two Domains?
by Guest nmowatt- 3 replies

Okay, this is the scenario: I have two location, NC and FL. NC is a new company that aquired a company in FL. NC wants a server with Exchange and also wants FL to be on that same domain and be able to send email through that Exchange server. What is the best way to set this up? I've never done this before and I have a couple of ideas in my head but I am not sure what is the correct way of doing this. 1 Domain or 2 Domains under the same tree? If 1 domain, how do you handle Active Directory replication across a VPN connection (VIA the Internet). Do I need two exchange servers or could they just connect via the VPN or would that be too slow? Any he…

We have a Dell server running stand-aloneWin2003 Web Edition with 2 network adapters. One private IP is assigned to first NIC, the other is temporary disabled. We want to achieve that both network adapters are active using one private IP, in case one of them fails. Can this be done with load balancing or with supported Dell software to team two NIC's into one? What is the best practice? Thank you in advance, Regards,Miha
