Hi, One PDC gives the following FRS error in the event log. What should we do to correct the problem...? regards jake The File Replication Service is unable to add this computer to the following replica set: "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" This could be caused by a number of problems such as: -- an invalid root path, -- a missing directory, -- a missing disk volume, -- a file system on the volume that does not support NTFS 5.0 The information below may help to resolve the problem: Computer DNS name is "peter.mydomain.LAN" Replica set member name is "PETER" Replica set root path is "c:\windows\sysvol\domain" Replica s…

Time server for 2nd DC and clients...
by Guest Jake- 1 reply

Hi, I have successfully configured my w2003r2 PDC to syncronize with an external time server. When I check the 2nd DC and member servers they still appear to be set to sync with an external time server. Whar are the correct mods to execute for secondary dcs and member servers to have they sync with the PDC? What about workstations, do they automatically sync time with the PDC? Thanks for comments on this regards Jake

Service stuck in "Stopping" state
by Guest Joe Murphy- 6 replies

My BackupExec service is stuck in the "Stopping" state and it is just barely getting close enough to stopping and then it dies with a 1053 error "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" I added the registry key to increase the timeout to 120 seconds based on this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824344 It requires a reboot to take effect and I really cannot take down this server during the day. Is there a workaround to apply this setting or otherwise get this service into the "Started" state? Thanks, JM

Where in AD is the setting for max number of sessions/workstations users are allowed at once? I'd like to make a single change but don't need the 3rd party app MS suggests for a more granular control of users session. i.e. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237282 I just need to know the defualt and how to change it for some or all users in AD or where the setting lives. Thanks for any help.

Folder Sharing Problem - Help!
by Guest A- 3 replies

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 server with 30+ domain users. I have shared a number of folders on the server for these users to access and store files, however, there is a laptop which does not logon to the domain, but exists on the network. Normally, I would expect a username/password prompt to show if this laptop were to access the Win2003 server's shared folders. This did occur a few times, but has now stopped and keeps prompting the same message of having no permissions to access the resource. How do I continue to have this username/password dialog apear? Thank you in advance, A.

IIS under NLB
by Guest jwi@semcomaritime.com- 4 replies

HI NG We have been trying to set to Servers up to NLB, and we have tried both unicast and multicast. The NLB setup works fine, if we ping the Cluster adress we can disconnect one of the servers without loosing connection. But if we try to acces the cluster adress from a browser, we get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". We have no internal firewall who can cause the problem, and we are connecting from our local network so external firewalls who can cause this. Anybody here who knows what could be causing this Regards JWI

Renaming the Administrator account for the domain
by Guest Phil McNeill- 2 replies

If the Administrator account for the domain isn't being used for anything (which really, it shouldn't be), are there any potential pitfalls to renaming it and adding that one additional hoop a hacker, or virus, would need to go through to compromise it? Thanks

Error: Group Policy editor, IE6 vs IE7 security settings
by Guest Frosty- 0 replies

We have an IE7 only environment, all PCs running Windows XP Professional, all servers running Windows 2003 Server. When I use IE7 to configure our list of Local Intranet sites in a GPO (ref: User Configuration, Windows Settings, Internet Explorer Maintenance, Security, Security Zones and Content Ratings) the group policy editor can no longer display a report in the Settings tab and fails with the following error message: "An error occurred while generating report: An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being generated." If I turn off the Security settings for IE within the GPO then the problem goes away. When I turn them back on again,…

by Guest Bob Felton- 21 replies

Does anyone know if the update contained in MSKB 891957 was incorporated into SP2 for Windows Server 2003 R2? I am receiving Event ID 12289 from VSS just as a scheduled NTBackup kicks off. MSKB 891957 was pointed to from EventID.net as a solution for Event ID 12289. However, I already have SP2 installed and am still logging the events. Thanks. -- Bob Felton

FTP issue with windows2003?
by Guest Pupkin- 0 replies

I'm a web developer, and in the last month I've noticed gradual slowness in FTP connections to a couple of different w2k3 servers turn into a totally crippling inability to connect. While I have no problem whatsoever FTPing to a number of other servers -- including what is, I think, a W2k3 server running a third-party FTP server software -- these three Windows servers have a lot of trouble keeping a persistent connection. I get lots of PORT errors, listing errors, and the logs also show a lots of disconnects and reconnects. Is this an issue that's arisen because of a Windows update? Or some other factor that would hit three otherwise unrelated servers …
