Hey I have 2 computers in my home network, one pc is a winXPpro+sp2, the other is a win2k3 machine on the win2k3 machine I've created a NFS share, using fs.msc.... The problem is that I'm unable to connect to this share from the winXP machine.... well, if I turn off firewall on both machines I'm able to connect, so I guess it is a firewall issue win2k3 machine is domain controller in this network, Active Directory installed These are the ports I've opened in win2k3 Windows FireWall: 111 - both TCP and UDP 1039 - both TCP and UDP 1047 - both TCP and UDP 1048 - both TCP and UDP 2049 - both TCP and UDP Haven't enabled the "File and printer share…

Hi All, Here's the situation. I'm in the process of installing 2 new DC's. I have one new Win2k3 dc installed. I ran forest prep and domian prep. DC promoed the new machine. I now want to remove active directory from the two old windows 2k machines and just have them as member servers. One of the servers was a win2k domain controller that has Cerificate Authorities installed on it. When i run DCpromo to remove active directory, i get the error that AD can't be removed without removing certificate services. I still need certificate services to run on this machine but do not want it to be a domain controller. Any suggestions would be greatly …

uphclean tool
by Guest rocketz21- 21 replies

Does anyone have some experience or know anything about the uphclean tool and how it works? We use roaming profiles on a small one domain company and experience strange issues time to time and wondering if it's recommended to use this tool or not. Sometimes a user won't be able to log on with their roaming profile and logs them on with a default temp profile, sometimes the folder gets reset to a default empty desktop, other times the desktop doesn't even load and you need to restart. Just weird things like that and just curious if this tool is good to use on client pcs and what's the benefit? I don't want to slow down logon times anymore than they al…

DHCP question/Scenario
by Guest booker@mgt- 2 replies

looking at the DHCP logs on a non windows DHCP server(Infoblox Grid Manager appliance), it appears that my switch ports are active and live on a boot cycle, because I can see the dhcp discover message sent from the Windows XP client, and I can see the infoblox appliance send back the offer. But it stops right there upon either booting or changing networks. It will repeat the discover and offer process about three times.. Now if I take out the network cable for about 10 seconds and plug it back into the machine and check the dhcp logs, I then see the full dhcp process in action.. Discover, offer, request, acknowledgment What, if anything, could be cau…

folder redirection for 1 out of 70 users is not working... why?
by Guest techtedg@kc.rr.com- 9 replies

We have server 2003 and all xp sp2, roaming profiles and user home directories. Inside our main gpo for all users i have configured folder redirection for my documents using the setting "redirect to user's home directory". This works great since the "u:" drive on all profiles is now the same as the my documents location and therefore all my doc links (on desktop and in apps) goes to the same place. We have had this working for over a year now, last week one of the user's my documents folder started not redirecting. When you right click my documents on the desktop it says "c:\documents and settings\username\my docs" instead of the UNC path like everyone els…

Roaming Profile Question
by Guest John W- 7 replies
I posted a question a few days ago to see if there was a way to put temporary internet files into a users roaming profile on SBS 2k3. I found out this is not possible. My next question is regarding a users cookies. We have a few users whose cookies do not show in their profile while everyone else's do. All systems are running XP so I'm not sure why there would be a difference. Is there something I can check to correct this? Thanks!

C:\WINDOWS\Installer
by Guest Nick Wilton- 1 reply

Please could someone inform me why by default, Windows does NOT delete all temporary installation files from the C:\WINDOWS\Installer folder? I have a number of servers within a farm here that have over 30 GB of disk space eaten up through temporary files. I assume it is safe for me to delete everything in here? While we are about it, is there any option within microsoft update that can mitigate the affects of this bug? Thanks in advance,
