Sub-domain name limitation
by Guest withers- 1 reply

The sub-domain LyonshallBooks.Lyonshall.net gives page not found. Books.Lyonshall.net works. In both cases, I set a DNS record for lyonshall.net with a Host A record for the subdomain and then an IIS website for subdomain.lyonshall.net. Is LyonshallBooks.Lyonshall.net invalid because the sub-domain name starts with the domain name Lyonshall? Or is there another setting I have to make? Thanking you in anticipation.

Re: Remote Desktop Connection W2K3 - THE SOLUTION Just in case anyone is intereseted the solution the problem was the ATI graphics card drivers. I have a habit of always downloading and installing the latest drivers for Motherboards and Graphics cards etc as per all good advice. The latest version of ATI drivers give a problem. The drivers from the CD supplied with the card work just fine. Hope this helps someone else in the future, took me a controlled reinstall to find this and RDP test at each step to find this. > DaveG wrote: > > > Hi all > > > > Today I have reinstalled our Domain server due to fatal problems. > > …

WSUS 3.0
by Guest Richard Johansson, Parnasso- 5 replies

Maybe this subject is not placed in the right newsgroup, but then excuse me for placing it incorrectly. I have a question about the Group Policy settings for the WSUS 3.0. I run an SBS 2k3 with 6 users logging in through VPN connections all of them. I would like to configure any updates that I have approved for installation in the WSUS Console to be automatically installed either upon logon or upon logoff of the specific user. The situation now being is that my users are stuck with the setting that they themselves have to approve which updates that are to be installed. How do I change this in the Group Policy object Editor?

Safest Way to Invoke Remote Script Synchronously
by Guest Will- 8 replies

What is the safest way to invoke a script remotely on a Windows host synchronously, and retrieving a return code to the caller at program termination? Because the target system is in a no man's land, I do not want to open up RPC port, and God forbid with have to involve the abomination that is DCOM. I want something extremely simple and special purpose, with good authentication features on the program server. What are my options? Commercial software is okay. -- Will

I have Win 2003 SBS SP2 with all latest update. About 60 days ago I start getting following error: 0x0000009c (0x00000000, 0x808a07a0, 0xbe000300, 0x20030179) All research that I did indicated hardware problems. I moved hard drives to different hardware, but in 3 days I got same error again. I researched Microsoft and found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835768 I also verified hal.dll on the server and found following: in C:\WINNT\system32\hal.dll Ver 5.2.3790.3959 size 119,808 bytes in C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386\hal.dll Ver 5.2.3790.3959 size 109,568 bytes Note both files have same version, but different file size!!! DHCP Server on a network that already has a DHCP
by Guest Trecius- 1 reply

Hello: I've a question regarding setting up a Windows 2003 SBS. We have our "main network" at our facility that assigns IP addresses using DHCP and allows clients to connect to the Internet. Now our group is trying to break away from the other network. We are trying to create our own tiny network, so we purchased our own server and our own switch. We moved all client computers from the main network's switch and plugged them into our switch. Now we want our server to assign IP addresses using DHCP, right? This is fine for now. A problem arises when the clients -- that we just switched -- need Internet. The Internet is and will always be "on" th…

How do I set all users as "Owners" of the folder? Would I set up another Group (non-administrator group) and add the users to that? thx -- John D. Leonard -- Sage

If the is a better group to post VPN questions please tell me. I have remote users I want to give VPN to our office network. They can login OK to the VPN to the VPN server, but don't see anything past the VPN server. They don't even see the domain in their explorer. Do they need to join the domain before using the VPN and if so is this possible to do from remote.

Rights differ between different administrators
by Guest RobGMiller- 1 reply

Different users in the administrators group have different rights. Some can run programs and others can't. I understand that being a member of different groups with lesser rights will restrict permissions but these users are members of the same groups. Where can I look to see all the restrictions on any user? -- RobGMiller
