FTP Question
by Guest Ted- 1 reply

I am trying to setup an FTP site and Isolate Users Using AD for my users. When I go through the Create New FTP Site Wizard. I enter my username, domain and password at the prompts. Those all work fine, but when I am finishing the process I get the message "You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again." And of course the site creation wizard fails. I have also tried to create the site using scripts but it fails as well. Will I really have to change the computer name on the Server that I am trying to install the site into, this will be a big deal as t…

Extending Drive/Partition for more Space..
by Guest newsqlman- 1 reply

Hello all. I'm trying to add space to a server that someone else setup and had a few questions. It's a Dell PowerEdge that has a Raid5 configuration. I just added a new drive and with the Openmanage Server Administration Reconfigured the virtual Disk and now windows is seeing the unallocated space. There is a Storage partition that I need to add space to and not sure the best way. I'm hoping to use the Disk Management within Windows 2003 to add to that partition by extending but not seeing where to do this. When I right click on the partition I thought it was supposed to give me the option to Extend but it doesn't. It's basic options are change drive …

How do I temporarily disable a domain controller (without turning it off!)
by Guest KingCronos- 4 replies

We have two web servers in an offsite location. One is a domain controller that is used by the web services on both boxes. I hope to install a new seperate DC, and to test that web services can use that, I want to disable the box that doubles as a web server and DC. Obviously, as it is hosting websites, I do not want to switch it off. Is there an easy way of doing this? Thanks, KC

Talking to NT
by Guest Jim Satterfield- 1 reply

We currently have an NT 4.0 server as our domain controller and a 2003 server in the same network. When trying to add a remote desktop user for the sake of Terminal Services to the 2003 server from the list of users on the domain there is a dialog asking for someone with authority on the domain and when I enter a username and password it pops up with this error message: "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." Microsoft's knowledge base has nothing useful on it about this. Any ideas?

trying to figure out network address usage
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 2 replies

As a relative newcomer to networking, I am trying to straighten out my understanding of the use of the network address (the one with all 0's in the host section of the address). Is this address actually used to contact a particular host or what, like putting it on the gateway router somewhere? How is it used to find or contact the network? Thanks for any replies.

Setting permissions pegs the processor
by Guest drdoak- 4 replies

Is it normal for the processor time to spike to 100% and stay there while setting permissions on files? We have a few changes to be made on our newish user data volume, but it makes it difficult when the server becomes nearly unresponsive while setting permissions. Particularly a problem since it might take half a day to set these. Is there no way to throttle it in some fashion? Almost seems like a bug when these large permissions changes can even cause that data volume to roll to another server. Running a 3 node Win2003 Enterprise R2 SP2 cluster with SAN attached storage for the data volumes. Thanks for any insights! Chris

We are currently running an Active Directory network off of Windows Server 2003 R2 and when attempting to run "net view" on some machines, the machine responds with "there are no entires in the list" and on other machines it provides all the computers on the network. Any idea why this is occurring? Thanks!

I try to access MachineB by typing '\\MachineB' in Start->Run, but i got an error saying '\\MachineB is not Accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. There are curretnly no logon servers available to servce the logon request" But i able to share out my local folders, and go to MachineB to copy the files to my local share drive. suing at or schtasks to run remote shutdown
by Guest totoro- 3 replies

I am trying to set up our XP SP2 clients to shut down at a set hour Monday through Friday for the typical reasons. I am trying use a the AT and /or the SCHTASKS command to run the shutdown.exe command, but it never works. THe sceduled task always appears on the client, after I run the AT or SCTASKS from a 2003 domain controller, and I have tried running the shutdown diretly and through a local batch file (which I have test directly and that works). Is there a documented issue with shutdown and these remote schedulers? ' Thanks in advance!! P.S. I already have an alternative method: I create a batch file on the DC that shutdown the XP PCs and I sch…

Hi all Today I have reinstalled our Domain server due to fatal problems. Same softeware and disks as always used. Now I cannot access the server by remote desktop. I have never had a problem in the past. Installed on the server. Windows 2003 Active Directory Exchange 2003 SQL 2005 Yes we have a do everything server and only the one, normally very reliable. What I have tried. 1. Activated RDP in the Remote tab of System Prpoerties. No extra user Selected as I always connect as Administrator. 2. Tried to connect from both XP and Vista stations, both worked in the past. 3. Googled like crazy for solutions, nothing seems to work. What actually h…

PoolMon: MmCm tag - High nonpaged memory pool usage
by Guest martin.necas@gmail.com- 0 replies

Dear all, I am troubleshooting an server with high nonpaged memory pool usage. It is an HP Proliant DL380 G5 server with 4 GB of physical RAM. I am running the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, therefore I am have to run under /3GB boot.ini switch. So I am limited do ~125 MB of nonpaged memory pool maximum. I am running at about 105 MB of used nonpaged memory pool, I worry about the stability. When I start the PoolMon, it shows that 40 MB of nonpaged pool is using the MmCm tag, which belongs to the nt!mm driver and "Calls made to MmAllocateContiguousMemory". This is the biggest usage, all others are about 1-2 MB. How can I determine, which driver(s) is allocat…
