I recently setup a differential ntbackup to a file and scheduled it to run at 2:00am every night and it is not running. It shows on the scheduled tasks and is checked as being active. Any ideas on where I can look? Also, I checked the event logs and nothing shows up there. Thank you. David

Re: Certification Authority I know this is an old thread, but I'm having this exact same issue in a very similar environment and not having much luck resolving it elsewhere. What was the issue on your domain that you corrected to resolve this, please? Thank you. -- cameronshove ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cameronshove's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=31029 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=384736 http://forums.techarena.in

Start/Stop service with non-admin user
by Guest Steve Roy- 7 replies
Hi !, sorry for my english, i'm french speaking. Since many years, some users can start/stop service remotly on our Win2K0 SP4 server. The domain admin created GPO for this (giving acces for stop/start/pause some service). Since few weeks, we installed another server (Windows 2K3 SP1), with same setting, same ACL, same software. The GPO was deployed but this users cannot now start/stop this services. The only difference between this 2 installation is: 1 is Windows 2000SP4 and the other Win2K3 SP1. There is some limitation, or security setting with Win2K3 ? Can someone help me please ! Thanks ! Steve

Re: Console (I suspect the original poster no longer cares 2 years later, but for others who find this site...) I found with XP I had to disable Fast User Switching and the XP Welcome Screen to get things to work properly when I had the same problem. (You do this in the "user accounts" control panel under "change the way users log on" or whatever.) -- roadworrier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ roadworrier's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=31028 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=30610 http://forums.techarena.in

Defrag Question
by Guest Mike Schumann- 1 reply
I am trying to defragment a 160 GByte hard drive on my Windows 2003 Server. It has about 22% free space, about 50 1+GByte files, and about 1,000 40+MByte files. When I start to defragment, it very quickly gets to 3%. After 8+ hours, I'm still at 3%. Is this normal? How long is this going to take? Note: I'm doing this while the server is running. I really can't take the server down for more than a couple of hours to run defrag. -- Mike Schumann

Help interpreting performance data

Hi Everyone, We have a server that is running very slowly and we've been unable to pinpoint what the problem is. By the time we realize it is running slowly, it's already too late to do any advanced troubleshooting because it's sooooo slow that it's basically unresponsive and the only option is to reboot it. It comes up fine, but then a few days later starts acting up again. This time I was able to get a screenshot of Task Manager before it became unusable. I transcribed some of the entries from some of the executables that looked suspicious for one reason or another. I didn't even bother to copy the CPU numbers because CPU utilization is very low…

Terminal server licensing - bug??
by Guest JayDee- 4 replies

In an effort to allow more than two terminal server connections to a couple of our servers, we built a terminal server licensing server and applied a license that allocated 50 CAL's - so on the terminal server, we see 50 licenses total and 50 available (we configured per-user licenses). We then went to the servers on which we want more than 2 connections, and pointed them to the licensing server - we tried both auto-detect and specifying the IP address of the licensing server. As expected, we were then able to create more than two TS connections. Now for the weird part. On the licensing server itself (The one we're pointing both servers to), it continues to say…

Windows Server 203 R2 SP1 - Insufficient system resources
by Guest Willbo- 0 replies

The following server has Oracle installed on it, but running 32bit OS. The following events are found with the event logs and the server is now encountering very poor performance. Prior Microsoft case last week, indicated the Memory “Free Page Table Entries" were the issue and recommended that the /Userva=3000 switch added to the Boot.ini file. Everything ran fine for a weed, but this issue is now back. I have checked with perfmon and the “Free Page Table Entries" are 16,750. I have also opened a new Web case with Microsoft, but looking for anything that might lead me to a final resolution. I do know that if I reboot the server that everything will be fi…

FTP Server blocked by VPN Server on Win2k3
by Guest soup_or_power@yahoo.com- 0 replies

The FTP service on our Win2k3 was functioning normally until the VPN server was installed. With VPN server running if I try to access the FTP site I get the message "this folder is not available". I am able to download files but not upload files. Since this started happening AFTER the VPN server was installed, I figured the VPN server was the problem. So I took the VPN server down and thankfully the FTP service was back. Can anyone confirm this has been a problem? Thanks

LDM won't format new disk volumes.

Hi, I've got a brand new install of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition w/SP2 on a Dell PowerEdge 860 with 2 500GB SATA drives in a RAID1 configuration on a Dell SAS 5iR controller. I installed the OS on a 25GB NTFS partition. No problem. I then tried to create a new 25GB partition out of the unallocated space (basic disk, NTFS, default allocation unit size). LDM hourglassed for a minute, then came back with "The operation did not complete. Check the System Log for more information on the error". No messages were in the log. The volume shows as allocated, but not formatted or assigned its drive letter. If i try to format after the fact, I get a "The form…
