Move Domain Controller to New Server - SBS 2003 to Standard 2003 x64
by Guest embj13@gmail.com- 2 replies

Hello everyone, I have a server currently setup that runs SBS 2003. I've built a new server to replace the old one because it is about four years old, and I wanted something that provided a little bit more reliability. So, I've got the new server up and running with Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 installed. What I'm wanting to do is completely migrate everything over from SBS to the new server. Here's what is already done: I've got the new server running as a domain controller with the DNS server already installed. It is currently receiving replicated information from the SBS box. I've successfully installed Exchange 2007 on the new server and have gotten all …

by Guest E-Double- 5 replies

Can Win 2003 Std be upgraded in place to Win 2003 Enterprise (ie without having to do a clean install) ? The 4GB memory limit in the Standard Edition is causing problems as it runs our SQL 2005 Server so we assume we will have to follow this upgrade path. TIA ...

System Center Essentials Issue
by Guest support@isotech-inc.com- 0 replies

This is a strange problem here - requirements are all messed up. I need to install Microsoft System Center Essentials and it requires a couple of things. I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition. When I go to install System Center Essentials I get a "Failed" message because "ASP.NET 2.0 is required" and when I click on "More" I get "ASP.NET 2.0 is not enabled. Please refer to the documentation on how to enable ASP.NET." Ok, fine. So I figure out that I need to enable ASP.NET to work on 64 this 64-bit system. So I go to the Web Server Extensions in my IIS and Allow: "C:\WINDOWS \Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll" then ru…

Domain within a domain
by Guest West Seattleite- 2 replies

Can anyone tell me if it's possible (and if so, point me in the right direction) to enter a domain name in a Win2k Server (SP4) running DNS and AD, that points to a specific ip address within my private network? For instance, say I have 10 workstations with static ip's ranging from 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.11. How do I tell my server that 192.168.0.6 should also be known as thisisatest.com? If you're interested in the reason, it's because I have two CDP appliances (continuous data protection), one of which is backing up my server. The second one will be backing up the first one and will eventually be located at my home. But I want to "seed" it first whi…

We just recently replaced our old servers with new ones running Windows Server 2003 Std SP2 We are running Veritas (Symantec) Backup Exec 10 for our nightly backups. Our old servers were running Windows Server 2003 SP1 Now whenever we try to backup Shadow Copy Components through Backup Exec on ANY of the new servers we receive the following error in Backup Exec: A failure occurred accessing the Writer metadata I already looked at the following article: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/264350.htm The VSS service is already set to Manual. I checked its status and there are no error and it says that its stable. I tried running sfc /scannow All of …

I've followed some instructions on setting a registry entry for IRPStackSize but still cannot access the shares. All help greatly appreciated. Paul.

Understanding DFS
by Guest Brillmike- 5 replies

I have a need and interest to use DFS but I am not sure I understand some of the details. 1. Do I need to use Windows 2003 R2? We are a Windows 2003 SP1 shop and I dont want to purchase all new licenses? 2. Can i just use one R2 member server to act as my DFS root, whiles accessing the files on the other network 2003 servers? 3. Can i add non Windows files to the DFS shares, for instance from a Netapp NAS device (which is setup to look like a windows share)? 4. If I want to use DFS to span partitions on a single server does that server need to be R2? Thanks in advance, Mike
