Change Local User Profile path after domain change
by Guest ptumelty- 0 replies

Hi, I wonder if anybody could help me. I've recently built a new server to replace an old Domain Controller (ROSEWOODSOLUIO) with a new one (RSNET). My plan was then to migrate the machines one at a time manually as there are only 5 or 6. The installation all worked fine, so I created an account for myself in the new domain (RSNET\ptumelty) and started to move machines over. The first machine to move over was my development workstation which is a Vista box. I was able to join the domain, but Vista created a new profile for the new domain user RSNET\ptumelty, it used the path c:\users\ptumelty.rsnet, presumably because c:\users\ptumelty was already ther…

moving your page file
by Guest mhowell- 3 replies

I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with 4 gb of RAM. Wouldn't placing the page file on the D: be the best thing to do since I have high paging? The D: is a seperate drive since it is a Storage Area Network. When you make the change it warns you that the system will not be able to create debugging information if a stop error occurs. I don't understand this because you have the option to put a path in where the dump file will goto. The default is %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP. However, you can change that to D:\MEMORY.DMP.

network share
by Guest uanmi- 7 replies

We do a backup overnight of our network shares. The problem is what to do about files being created and accidentally deleted by a user during one working day? This has happened again and undelete does not see the file on the server or the client. Is there a way to ensure that files on network shares can be restored using an undelete application either on the server or the client? Volume Shadow Copy appears to be xcopy wrapped up. It recommends using it only once per hour, so what happens if someone creates a file and accidentally deletes it during this 1 hour period? Is this really a usable solution or just wasting CPU cycles? I would like to know mo…

Can't get out to internet over 2003 enterprise server!
by Guest Dave- 4 replies

This one is baffling me. We have a fresh install of Server 2003 Enterprise edition with SP2 IE6 and cannot get a single web page to load. The Server has valid IP info and can get responses from websites via pings at the command prompt, so we know DNS and name resoluition is working. However you cann't access any page via its name or ip address in internet explorer. Just for kicks, I put the exact IP info into another server plugged into the same switch port, runniing win 2000 server and it connected to public web pages fine. Any ideas???? Is there a security setting in Server 2003 enterprise or IE that could be blocking me? Dave MCSA…

HELP Something on my network is changing the time. This is the only error in the event log. This server is set to look at a government clock. I'm not sure what this error is all about. Details Product: Windows Operating System ID: 12 Source: W32Time Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: MSG_DOMAIN_HIERARCHY_ROOT Message: Time Provider NtpClient: This machine is configured to use the domain hierarchy to determine its time source, but it is the PDC emulator for the domain at the root of the forest, so there is no machine above it in the domain hierarchy to use as a time source. It is recommended that you either configure a reliable time service in the…

by Guest bens.google@chu-brugmann.be- 2 replies

Hello, We have an 2k3 domain with Windows 2003 Server Enterprise SP1 and i setup a policy to enable proxy settings via User Configuration - Windows Settings - Internet Explorer Maintenance - Connection - Proxy Settings. Where we enable proxy settings , use the same proxy server for all adresses and do not use proxy server for local (Intranet) addresses. I enable that policy for some workstations and it's working. But we have 2 problems: 1- When we go to local addresses like Intranet websiet or SAN http managment we pass trough the proxy. 2- If I disable this policy the proxy settings stay evn after gpupdate and reboot. Thank's to help me. KR.

Hey, I'm having some fun with Windows Deployment Services at the moment. I've just installed a fresh copy of Window2003 RC2, then I applied SP2. I've installed Windows Deployment Services... Now, I've read some articles on how to get it in to mixed mode (as I use XP at work) they say to run this command while the server is in uninitialize mode. OK so I run:- wdsutil /initialize-server /reminst:"D:\RemoteInstall" And then reboot and run:- wdsutil /get-server /show:config And whey hey still in Native mode! Grrrr. Anyone know why this could be?

single domain scenario
by Guest Harold- 0 replies

we wish to implement a single-domain network structure for our company. We have 45 remote branches all have an average of 20 users per site and have 300 user's in HO. Since we have a server on each branch that host some applications, we intend to make this servers a DC with AD integrated DNS for the local users be authenticated locally. Some links / websites recommend to put a Global Catalog on each site to facilitate the logon query locally but i have also read about implementing a universal group membership caching w/c they said to be ideal for remote branches with limited bandwidth and harware resources. I've got confuse on this part on which to place with ou…

Upgrade W2k AD to W2k3 AD
by Guest Andrew Hodgson- 2 replies

Hi, I am not very well up on AD - I do what I need to do on it, and it usually works, but if it falls over I usually turn to Google or some books :). Anyway, the situation is at the office, I have a 200 user W2k AD domain with several domain controllers, some of which run DHCP. I need to upgrade these to W2k3R2, possibly running 64-bit Windows. The first question is is there any way of saving the DHCP data, so that when I put the new domain controllers in, I can put DHCP on the relevant servers, and bring DHCP back to those sites? The other question, which is the main question, was how we should do the upgrade. I was originally going to do the upgrade …
