We have 6 PCs that are of various flavors of Windows. They were all separate and independent workstation. Recently, we purchased Small Business Server 2003 and created network accounts for our users. Now, when they login they have two profiles listed under Users (Vista PC, for example). However, their new network acct does not have all the desktop and functionality that they had with their local profiles. I know I can probably just copy the various folders from their local to their network profile but I understand there is a better way. What is that better way? I hear it is available in Small Business Server 2003. It's a pain to copy those folders…

Server 2003 Time Server - NTP address keep reverting.
by Guest Keloid- 2 replies

I have 2003 DC setup as a GC, DNS and FSMO holder. It running the time service for the domain. The old NTP server was Firewall appliance and that function has been moved, so the time service is loggings errors because it can't sync. I've gone in to the registry and changed the NTP address to the IP of MS time server 207.46.x.x. Anyway, each morning I come back to work and the IP address has reverted to the original address. I'm at my wits end. I read numerous docs on this process and gone through the steps several times but the IP keeps changing. There are no GP settings that I could find that could be resetting this address. I really need help here or I'm…

I've virtualized a w2003 for testing purposes (vmware server on debian on ibm x206). I noticed a gread performance loss, and I suspect this loss is related to disk virtualization. I'd like to do some performances test, but I'm not very experienced with perf. counters. Which counters should I activate? Is anywhere some good doc? tnx Ago

We are using a print server with Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. Our users are on Windows XP. We are using separator sheets on our printers. Most of our users have their name displayed on the separator sheet. However, we have a few users whose separator sheets display the name "Administrator". Can someone tell me how I can change the display name to the user's name? Thank you in advance for any help.

Thanks I'm attempting to put together a VBScript that searches Active Directory for a specific group of computer objects. I found this script, that I'm trying to modify so it my needs. In the script, if I use the LIKE statement to find any computer objects that start with BBX, the script fails when it trys to execute with -> C:\temp\z.vbs(13, 1) Provider: One or more errors occurred during processing of command. Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error, and how to fix, or can suggest another way for me to retrieve a group of computer objects …

Attempting to lock down various w2k3r2 laptop(s) using the Bastion host template (standalone, no domain) with secedit which has some settings under the /machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/lanmanserver/parameters registry hive key namely: RequireSecuritySignature EnableSecuritySignature EnableForcedLogoff AutoDisconnect AutoShareWks RestrictNullSessAccess and using supplemental .cmd scripts that run reg.exe or regedit.exe to set some of these parameters as well ... we are finding basically that no settings for this lanmanserver/parameters hive key are taking. Offline files synchronization fails for 4 files, "access denied"
by Guest mct@pioneerprogramming.com- 22 replies

I have a client who took her XP Pro laptop home over the weekend and made changes to 4 files which are in her My Documents folder. Her folder is on \\server\home$\username\My Documents. \\server\home$ is the share, with Everyone having full control of the share. Her My Documents is being redirected via group policy with Basic redirection to that folder. The folder was automatically created by the policy the first time she logged in, and the files were moved automatically to that folder with no problems. It has worked well for over a month. When she connects to the network, the warning appears in the system tray saying offline changes need to be synch…

We have a recent issues where the users Home drive, mapped via their profile for Home drive is only mapping to the share level ie \\server\home\ and no \\server\home\%username%. This is a very recently problem and appears to be only occuring on XP desktops. Doesn't seem to be an issue on terminal server profiles. All this as worked for 3 year before this problem started occuring. Could this be a client side patch?

Server 2003 File Rights
by Guest Mike- 3 replies

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding file rights. According to what I've read and understand when a folder is copied from one location to another it will inherit the rights from the new parent folder, however if a folder is moved to a new location it will retain the old rights that it had previous to the move. At this point we have to access the share and force the inheritance to make the folder have the correct rights. This link explains what I'm seeing... http://www.lockergnome.com/it/2005/06/10/exam-70-290-copyingmoving-folders-files/ We would like the inherited rights to apply regardless of whether the folder is copied or moved. Is this a …

Home Folder
by Guest Jasper Recto- 4 replies

Our users each have a their own Home folder. When they log into the domain, it automatically connects them to it based on their user profile information. However, sometimes when they log in, it does not connect to their individual folder but to the parent folder. For example, a users home folder is set to this: Z: drive --> \\Fileserver\Users\JohnDoe. The Users folder is the shared folder in this case. When they log in, their Z: drive should be linked to that location. However sometimes it does not map directly to the JohnDoe folder, it maps to the Users folder where they see all the users folders listed in there. Why does it do this and…
