Poor performance reviewing folder properties after 2003 SP2
by Guest Distant- 0 replies

We have a multitide of Physical and Virtual servers that take 5 minutes to display properties of remote folders specifically on our 2000 servers. This does not effect anything other than servers we have applied SP2. I have reviewed a number of articles relating to performance (firewall, RSS etc) and tried following each but thus far none have resolved this. Any assistance is most welcome, it's a daunting task roling back 100+ servers to SP1 :-) Thank you in advance - Ronnie

Pagefilesize on W2K3 R2 Enterprise
by Guest Celina- 4 replies
Hi, there We have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise in 32 Bit with 32 GB physical RAM. There are two things we are not quite sure: First: What is the correct pagefilesize? Is it twice the RAM (which means 64 GB of pagefile) or only 1,5 (which is then 48 GB)? Second: Is it correct that the size of a pagefile cannot exceed 4 GB per Volume under 32 bit even if we use Enterprise Edition? If that is correct, we have to use nearly half of the alphabeth in order to give the server swap-partitions ... Does anybody have experience with such a large RAM-Size and give us an advice? Any help would be appreciated. Greetings Celina

A problem when changing server name.
by Guest it-support- 5 replies

When I installed one of our new servers it wass still unclear what it was supposed to do and when it came to naming it I just gave it a temporary boogus name thinking it was easy enough to change later. But now when I have changed that name to the real computer name I have discovered that the old name is still used everything from dns zone to exchange profiles and exchange accounts. Why hasnt all that changed when I change the computers name? How do I make sure ALL instances of the old name are updated with the new name? Thanks for any replies!

Security Configuration Wizard
by Guest abgray- 3 replies

Hi I am receiving a message "class not registered" when I try to run the Security Configuration Wizard under Windows 2003 SP2. I found a document which states you can get this error if you are trying to run the 64bit version of the wizard under a 32 bit operating system, however this does not apply in this case. Any help on resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks very much

Repairing IE6, Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
by Guest Bob Felton- 0 replies

After building up a "2003" server, I updated IE to V7 via Windows Update. However, I found an application (McAfee update "puller") that did not work properly using IE7, so I uninstalled IE7 to revert back to IE6. Now, the offending application works OK but IE6 isn't working well otherwise. For instance, I can't use it to administer my Linksys router or any other device that has a web interface for administration. IE6 on the previous Windows 2000 Server machine worked OK to administer those devices. What is the procedure for repairing or re-installing IE6 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1 (installed as such from source media) machine that has been updated to S…

Hiya, Recently had to sort out a messed up file redirection/offline files setup on a Windows 2003 server. THis seems to have worked fine for the deskbound clients using this server. However, a member of staff with a laptop has only just logged on to the Servers local network and when he did, he reports that the Sycronisation came up with an error and his files in his my documents area have been deleted. He did not have any files in his my documents area on the server and this was the first time he logged into the server since I set the file redirection/offline GPO. ANy idea whats gone on and how I can get the files back??? Thanks JOhn

Exchange 2003 OWA and Outlook 2007
by Guest dirtyrat@gmail.com- 2 replies

I have installed Windows 2003 Enterprise Server on a Dual Core Intel CPU with 1GB RAM, installed Service Pack 2 and installed all the latest updates. I then made the machine a Domain Controller with a .local zone. After then installing MS Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise and following all the steps in the Deployment Plan (Forest Prep, Domain Prep, etc) exchange works fine. Added several users and created their mailboxes in the usual way (via outlook 2003) and all worked fine. When checking mailbox with Outlook Web Access using Firefox, the mailbox is fine. Then when we check the mail box with IE on a PC with Outlook 2007 installed, the mailbox is unre…

VPN on Server 2k3
by Guest Scott Elgram- 1 reply

Hello, I have set up a VPN (RRAS) on a windows server 2003 standard machine. I can access the VPN just fine from outside the network and the VPN server on it's own can access all network resources without a problem. However, for a client connected to the VPN server to use a network resource, i.e. map a network drive, the client must add ".DOMAIN" to any network resource it wishes to access. For example: If a computer from within the domain (Not connected through VPN) wishes to map a networked drive it can do so with "NET USE Z: \\COMPUTER\Share". But if a computer connected through the VPN wishes to map the same drive it must use "NET USE Z: \\COMPUTE…

VPN and MS Access DB speed issue
by Guest James Wright- 1 reply

I have a SBS network with a firewall that handles VPN connections. When users remote connect to the network they can access files and Exchange just fine with no speed issues, but there is a MS Access database that's being accessed and it is so slow you have to wait several mins for windows to come up while a query completes. Working in this Access database cannot happen over the VPN because it's so slow. In the office it's fine..... Any advice?
